Hidden history, hometown pride, and one very cool rocket ship!…read more After finishing my visit to the Edmond Historical Museum, I stepped outside and realized Stephenson Park was literally next door. Since it was such a beautiful Oklahoma day, I decided to spend some time exploring--and I'm glad I did. This isn't just another neighborhood park. Everywhere you look there's a little piece of Edmond's history. I especially enjoyed reading about the famous Rocket Ship Slide, a playground icon that generations of Edmond kids remember. While the original slide has been retired, the restored rocket display is a wonderful tribute to the park's past. The new playground is outstanding, with plenty of room for children to climb, play, and burn off energy. The walking paths, shade trees, benches, and open green space make it just as enjoyable for adults who simply want to relax. As a retired Air Force veteran, I was especially touched by the "Peace" military monument honoring the men and women who have served our country. It was a meaningful reminder that parks can preserve memories as well as provide recreation. I also noticed the park hosts Thursday evening concerts, and after seeing the setting, I already know I'll be back when the weather cools down. Whether you're visiting the museum, traveling through Edmond, or simply looking for a peaceful place to spend an hour, Stephenson Park is well worth the stop. After a nice walk at the Edmond Dog park next door, we walked to the Bickham-Rudkin park for some exercise. Beautiful landscape and thoughtfully developed areas include a pond for fishing, a pavilion for reservation, an Arboretum that was built by the Margaret Annis Boys Club, multi-use trails for walking, biking, etc, and several playgrounds. Bring water as there are not drinking fountains except at the playground. We walked a total of 1.36 miles on the trails from the dog park. Please check out my pictures, such a pretty area! Hello: My fiancé and I joined Key Fit Club a few months ago and were aware that the gym was beginning to transition to a new building. After a few particularly negative experiences I wanted to bring a few concerns to your attention. I am regularly observing members misusing equipment and not following a dress code. This is concerning from a health and safety standpoint. Although this is not an uncommon issue and happens at most gyms it is happening consistently enough it should be addressed with specific members to ensure the safety of all members. Members are not adhering to a basic dress code by not wearing shoes and socks and even taking off their shirt while working out. Specifically, members are walking to and from the bathroom and throughout the training area as well as training without socks or shoes. Unfortunately, I have witnessed gym employees misusing equipment and removing their shoes and socks to exercise as well. This is particularly concerning because of the standard that these behaviors set for other gym members to not use the facility in a safe and appropriate manner. There are regularly members of the gym using the facility while they are noticeably high. This is prevalent on weekdays between 5:00pm and 7:00pm and obvious due to the potent smell. I do not feel it is appropriate for this to be tolerated because of the overwhelming smell it causes in the gym. I am also concerned that this is happening while there are children's classes happening in the gymnastics gym next door. Due to the above concerns: improper use of equipment, lack of dress code, and marijuana use I do not feel like Key Fit Club is promoting a safe and healthy gym environment particularly for females. The gym should be a safe place for individuals to work towards their goals. My personal training has been disrupted and I have been distracted from my goals due to the above referenced issues I have experienced. I have become uncomfortable being at the gym without my fiancé or a friend there with me because of the actions of other members. I have experienced harassment in a gym setting before and believe the environment that is being cultivated at Key Fit Club is promoting gym harassment and gym intimidation. I understand the gym is in the process of transitioning and moving locations. When we joined, we knew we would need to exercise some grace for the transition process. I would like to see these issues addressed and changes made moving forward in the current and new facilities. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to discuss this further. Gyms make me very self conscious but this gym is great to work out in. From weights to cardio equipment it has it all and it is conveniently located on campus, and free to any UCO Student.
