For one thing, there was no one to greet us when we arrived that evening. Did not see any staff members at all. All the instructions are given through email it seems. Not sure of all the details because our friends took care of everything. Got to book ahead of time that's for sure. Anyways, we spent a comfortable evening at the place. Free Wi-Fi. Room was fine. Bed was comfortable. Served its purpose well. If ever in the area again, I would stay here.

The hotel is within walking distance of most major city-center activities and is outside the bus terminal area, so there are plenty of bus routes/taxis available, too. I had a room facing the lake, so a nice view, but it did get a bit noisy on Friday/Saturday night with nightlife noise. The rooms seem recently updated; the bed was comfy with a nice table and seating area. The bathroom is bigger than your typical "European" style bathroom, which was a welcome change! Front desk employees were professional and friendly. Room service is available from the nice restaurant downstairs, Fire Lake. Breakfast is additional cost, but it is a huge spread and worth it in my opinion. All in all, certainly would stay here again if I am ever back in the area!

The rooms are notably larger than the general hotel room size. It has lots of liquid amenities that have a refreshing scent that I enjoyed. The in house coffee machine was convenient. The fridge was helpful. There is breakfast, though I slept through it, as usual. The VIEW! It has a commanding pond view with a water feature. Love the swans. It's the cheapest way to get accommodation in Norway, short of Couch Surfing. I was expecting a bed in a 6 person dormitory but to my surprise got my own room, not too shabby and not bad. It has a private bathroom and a single bed, which was a pleasant surprise. The hotel isn't the newest act in town, in fact the area seems like a remnant of World War 2 - unpaved streets and worn out buildings...but one can't complain considering I got a 3 start hotel for the price of a hostel. As with most Hosteling International hostels, breakfast is free. And here was another excellent surprise, the breakfast here is by far the best offering out of all the hostels I've been to! Eggs, bacon, cheeses, fruit, make your own waffles, assorted fresh breads, canned mackerel, pickled fish, coffee, the list goes on and on and on. Considering the average price for a Norwegian lunch is somewhere in the neighborhood of $25-35 this Hostel is a steal for $45/night!

Our room was nice and clean! It was a great treat to have a comfy bed after traveling for the past 7 days and recharge before our Kjeragbolten hike! The breakfast was AMAZING! It was actually the best I had since I started traveling. They even a section of food to pack for hikers. Love Scandinavian breakfast. Parking was tough though. If parking on the street, make sure you read the signs. Otherwise, there's a parking garage about a block away from the hotel.
