Great location, within walking distance to the bus station and there's a bunch of good food and bars nearby. Didn't get to have dinner here but I appreciated the breakfast they offered. It's so easy to get to and it's right in the heart of Placa Reial off of Las Ramblas. It really is the perfect location. The windows of the common area face the Placa so I was also able to see the street performances. The hostel itself is clean, as are the bathrooms (very important)! Free wifi, free breakfast, and free dinner (on a first come, first serve basis). Staff were friendly for the most part. All the rooms had secured lockers for your belongings. The rooftop bar makes the best sangria I've ever had, and only for 3 euros! It was a little confusing to me at first because you have to buy a drink ticket at the ticket machine and then use that at the bar. The rooftop bar is also where you will meet up if you want to join the bar crawl - which I did! I had the best time with many thanks to our great host, Melissa. My initial intention was to give it 5 stars but the following instances took it down to 4: 1. I personally booked a 4-person room for my group of 3. Upon check-in, we were informed that it wasn't possible to put us all in one room on the first night and that we would have to be separated into 2 and 1. If I booked 3 beds together, I would naturally expect us to all be in one room. I would've appreciated prior notice if it wasn't possible. They were able to change our rooms and put us together for our 2nd and 3rd night. 2. One of our lockers in the room wasn't working. It was fixed but broke again at some point and the technician had to come look at it again (that's twice in one day).

This starts Review #1 for Summer of 2013 in Spain. I was online at some Hostel booking place and saw this place. The place looked spectacular online as well as the reviews from there were pretty good so I went in and got the spot. 2.) What your eyes may see: It's Spain, so you're always going to get that very traditional feel. A lot of antiquity, but still kept in mint condition. The elevator was very fascinating. A kind of sliding metal door like you'd see in those artsy type buildings, but then an inner elevator door that resembled much like a cabinet type door. Inside this place was kept immaculate. It definitely is more of an apartment floor than a hostel. You would feel right at home, or, at least as a guest in someone's house. There are two bathrooms - a main bathroom that has a washer/dryer and secondary bathroom that is without one. The dining room is nice - well stocked liquor cabinet, antique yet upscale looking furniture (sorry, I like saying antique after the maintenance man kept saying the word "antiquo" which means antique). There are about 6 rooms on the floor I am on. The bathroom is not necessarily locked and can be shared, which could make some people a little uncomfortable. The floor itself is pretty intimate, where you can walk out of your room and into the dining room you can find a bunch of strangers eating and laughing at the dinner table. 3.) Staff: Very friendly people. I got to sit down, share some laughs and talk to Billy, the guesthouse owner, who is originally from Los Angeles California. Very nice and helpful people I must reiterate. I feel at home when I am here. 4.) Impressions: I got to meet some other Americans who were here. Good to know it's not just rowdy teenage or college kids coming here. Seems to be a nice eclectic crowd of people who come here.

The decor is lovely and charming in the best way possible. The location is really good near transportation and the city center. Everything is very clean. But the most remarkable is the friendly staff, who goes all the way to make you feel at home "or at Billy's home". My room was small but suited for a princess. I will definitely come back to this beautiful place.

The decor was modern but comfortable (lots of things from IKEA, including a lamp we also own!), and sharing a bathroom with one other room was no problem. The only downsides, I would say, were that when we came in late (11-ish) we felt the need to whisper, in case we disturbed other guests, and that the nearest Metro stop (Diagonal) was a 10-15 min walk, depending on if you were lugging suitcases or going for a leisurely stroll or what. (But then again, all of Barcelona's Metro stops seem farther apart than Madrid's, so... yeah.) On the other hand, there's quite a bit of nice shopping nearby, and good eating, and Gaudi's Casa Mila (La Pedrera) and Casa Battlo are relatively close too. We even walked to Sagrada Familia (once; we Metro-ed it the second time). All in all, we were satisfied with our stay at Blanc Guesthouse and would definitely consider staying there again if/when we return to Barcelona.

When we arrived, the apartment was very hot! We didn't think anything of it as no one had been living there. As the day went on the room never got cooler. Come to find out the air conditioner was broken! The host didn't believe us, and we were there to suffer. Keep in mind they had one small air conditioning unit for the apartment which had three bedrooms. We go no sleep as the temperatures were so hot! Also, whenever you leave this apartment all electricity turns off so even if the air worked then it would just get hot throughout the day. Posting pics to follow.

From making the reservation to the actual stay I have to say I totally enjoyed staying in an apartment rather than a hotel. The price was better, we had a little kitchen, a washer and dryer, and a lovely balcony to enjoy the evening breezes with a good bottle of cava and some yummy treats. I won't hesitate to stay with banys de mar any time I'm in barcelona for any extended time. Located in barceloneta, close to the beach, close to a market, never mind the food near by and within waling distance to so many great things why stay somewhere else? The staff is friendly and helpful with suggestions and in so many small ways. Do yourself a favor, stay for a week or two and soak up all that you can, because it won't be enough and you'll want to come back for more. This is 5 stars not because it is a 5 star hotel, but because it was a great way to experience and enjoy Barcelona. The rooms are beautiful and well put together, but don't expect a mint on your pillow, go somewhere else for that.
