Soho Bar & Billiards is a laid-back place to come watch some sports and have a drink. The food options here are nothing special. I got a personal 7-inch pepperoni pizza which was probably just a frozen pizza that was reheated (not a particularly good deal for $7). I also shared some nachos with my friend which were again lackluster. If you are hungry, I would highly recommend getting food at other places in Yaletown before coming here. As for the billiard tables, the playing area is quite crowded meaning you will often bump into adjacent groups during the busy evening times. This greatly affected the enjoyment of the game for the members of my group. We will probably try to come during off-hours if we decide to revisit Soho but Commodore or our own private table is probably where we will be heading for our billiards need from here on out. read more

I have to admit I am no pool shark. I don't call where the shots are supposed to go and certainly don't care to much about the rules so I go just because pool is fun. Now the only way to take the fun out of pool is to put the pool tables too close together and too near the wall. That was the real bummer. Can't shoot the ball properly if you don't have enough room now can ya? It was a little too dark in the space but I think if you are hanging out in the pub area, you may find this a fun place to chill. It certainly doesn't have the same modern atmosphere as the rest of yaletown which is a nice change of pace. However, if you want to play pool, hit a place like Guys and Dolls on Main and Broadway. read more

I love this place for what it is (cheap, casual, conveniently located) as much as for what it isn't (cool, crowded, trendy). For less than the cost of a decent meal for one person anywhere in Yaletown, I can play a few games of pool, have a beer or two and hang out for a few hours. Don't come here for the food: the only edible item on the menu is the tuna melt - but it is divine! The tables aren't great, the cues are usually bent, the servers are often surly and the music varies wildly from song to song. But it's a fun place for grownups to play games. read more

Cane here a few weeks ago and this place is terrible. Worst service i have ever had. When i first arrived at the soho i had high hopes for a nice night of pool with some girlfriends. When i tell you everything in this bar was wet with beer and urine i am not exaggerating. I approached the gentleman working and he seemed to be in charge but who knows why, this man was so frigid and unfriendly towards me and my friends. He poured my beer that had far too much foam and wiped it with a dirty towel when i asked about pool he told me there were no tables available even though i could see one at the end of the bar. Not wanting to make a fuss we sat at a table near the bar. I watched as this guy picked at his ear and scratched his head never once washing his hands although i should have figured from the beer soaked bar that things like that were the norm. The table was ready and i finally had a good interaction with one of the young girls who was working along side. i ordered some food that was a mistake take it from me and skip the nachos! All in all a terrible experience and i strongly considered telling the grouchy man to get a new career path. read more

This is a great place to hang out with friends, play some pool and have some cheap drinks. Don't come here expecting anything fancy. They just have simple bar food on the menu which is decent enough. And some good drink specials each day. We had the nachos and chicken fingers which were good enough. Their Alabama slammers are $4 on Saturdays and are surprisingly tasty. It's a good space with tables to hang out at in the front including some on the patio. Then about 10 or 12 pool tables you can rent at $12 an hour. This place reminds me of an old pool hall from the late 90's early 2000's....probably because it is one! It probably is one of the last pool halls in Vancouver with hourly tables. The booze is cheap and it's got this old school vibe. They have pinballs in one corner and foosball in another. This place is decorated with old movie posters and they have a few tables and patios. I did enjoy this establishment, even at $10.0 an hour I think it is worth it. I would not really go here for the food or the drinks, but I would to hang out with my friends like I already did. I think that the biggest issue I had was that the pool tables are a little too close to each other and it means you might be bumping into other guests. There use to be lots of these places around in the 90s but they have disapeared with all the new construction and higher rents downtown. I do love this spot. A casual place with a casual pace. The manager is dope and gives my volleyball team a deal on pitchers every Thursday. The atmosphere is definitely chill with sick beats in the background. The menu is non-existent as you must go to the bar to order your choice of sandwich, salad, chicken fingers or pizza. Appetizers like nachos and spin dip are also options. Servers are scarce so be patient and enjoy the people you're with, the cool music, the fun of playing pool, the somewhat spacious patio (beware of the guy selling $15 flower bouquets) and the friendly staff at the bar. I did find the Pool table here is a bit smaller compared to going to Q1. If you are here, they also have a bar. Alcoholic drinks are reasonable. I was able to get an Amerato Sour. I did find that they place does get packed on weekend and especially friday night. Also note that the location is at the end of the Hamilton busy food street area. Kind of hidden too. Place isn't big but they charge by the hour if you want to play pool here. When you enter the place. they do have some stool seats. People don't usually come here for food. read more

This is the first of a five part review of a stag night. The SoHo is a great place to play some pool and have some drinks at your table (other places I've been to have a separate area for drinking). They were very accommodating for our reservations and they serve decent beer (you're not limited to Canadian, Coors Lite, and Kokanee). I was getting pints of Sleeman's Honey Brown while getting my ass handed to me in pool. Serves me right to play with one guy who grew up with a pool table in his home and another who is a hustling biker. Since it's two blocks away from the Yaletown Skytrain on the Canada Line, I will likely be back. Their food menu looks tasty. The nachos and wings I saw coming out of the kitchen looked very appetizing. Outside of that, I'm looking forward to spending a couple of hours playing some pool and drinking some beer. I'll really have to go back to give a full review. A colleague and I wanted to get a beer after work and I had my dog. We went across from our office to Soho and the patio had all the tables and chairs outside but they weren't set up. I popped inside and asked if we could sit out there. The server offered to come set up a table but I told her we just needed our beers and we could manage. Looking inside we realised we really need to get our team over there for some after work pool! So in my review of the nearby Dover, I said it was odd and awkward, with matching clientele, and that this place was more my speed. And just to prove I am no elitist, this bar is also odd, awkward and filled with same. But it is a good mix of these feature, is a bit more comfortable (or at least darker) and is an ok place to catch just about any sport - night we were here, CFL, Australian Rules, and Persian Thumb Wrestling. Sioho is a good option for hanging out and shooting some pool. Six of us went on a Saturday evening around 9pm. We were able to get a pool table right away (approx. $12/hr), although shortly after the place got pretty full. Service was ok, though the staff were somewhat unfriendly, or maybe just too busy. We noticed that they could bus the tables more often -- when we arrived there were a few dirty glasses/empty bottles on the shelf near the pool table, and it took at least an hour before anyone cleaned up... and one half-finished cup of coffee hung around until we asked them to take it away (2 hours after we arrived). by 11pm it was getting pretty busy, and it got a little bit annoying because people were hanging around the tables and getting in the way when we were trying to make our pool shots. as well it was a bit weird because people were wandering around looking at art on the walls (and also getting in the way when we were shooting pool). Like Barney B.'s review, I would agree that the clientele were a bit odd. I'm certainly no elitist myself, but I was a weirded-out by some of the people there (e.g. there was a fairly attractive, fairly well-dressed younger lady, who clearly needed a shower) but all in all, it's a good option, and I'd go back to play some more pool. read more

The customer service is so shitty and it's like they know me and my friends aren't from here and intentionally treat us like we aren't welcomed. My anticipation to play pool at the Soho Cafe was meet with disappointment upon arriving. On the edge of the Yaletown strip lies a dedicated Pool Hall establishment that has poor quality tables for $12hr. I've seen $1.50 vended pool tables in much better quality. There was a mix of 6 people in the semi-large establishment. All of which seemed to have found their way by mistake to this desolate tourist trap. My initial encounter with the service staff was shocking. The plain faced asian girl that initally took my beer order and pool table reservation was rude and cold. When I asked for a menu she directed me to a blackboard that was barely seen in the darkness of the room. Finally noticing the blackboard could not be easily read she handed me a menu from a stack of menus next to her. To my delight I was happy to get my Heineken; don't be fooled by their advertisement of Craft Beer. It doesn't exist. Unfortunatley, I could not drink my Heine near the pool tables and needed to walk 20ft away everytime I needed to take a swig. The tuna melt I ordered was microwaved and tasteless. Soho has potential, but what a waste of such an establishment. The ambiance can be so much better if laid out correctly. You've got location, liquor license, food, and pool. Use it to your advantage. It's nice that there is a plain-Jane pool hall in Yaletown. It's reasonably priced and decent but, there is slightly too little room around the tables to be very good. The gritty atmosphere keeps away the entitled Yaletown riff-raff. read more

This is a great place to come during the week to play pool - cost by the hour. The drink selection isn't terrible and the sandwiches are pretty good all around. A nice selection of TVs with various sporting events are spread around the entire venue. There are other games to play including pinball, old arcade games, foosball (Tornado tables) and the all round vibe is friendly and welcoming. The pool was pretty reasonably priced and we had the place to ourselves, so we didn't have to deal with crowds, which was nice. I've played pool at Soho Billiards a few times over the years. It's close to where I live so it's convenient. The place can definitely use a fresh coat of paint and some upgrades but in all honesty, it doesn't bother me. They're licensed and have a full bar. They also serve food but I've never eaten there so I can't say whether the food items are good or not. There are about eight pool tables, some pinball machines and foosball tables. There are even TV's around to catch games if they're on. Not a bad place to go if you're looking for something to do in Yaletown. It's a bit of a dive, so if you're not picky, you can really have a good time. read more

I am a spanking new Yelper. I am so excited to tell you about Soho. My boyfriend has been a regular for more than 10 years. Introduced me to Soho 6 years ago. The rest is history. It's great place to hang and chill. Not a pick up bar. There are many Friday and Saturday requlars. Tuesdays are for Pool terniments. The staffs are very friendly and playing pool is cheep. What a weird spot to see in the heart of Yaletown, but it was cool. I felt like I was in a small town when I walked into Soho.. Just get your drink on and play the pool, it's a lot more fun. Especially when you're with a bunch of drunken people you work with and you don't see them in that state very often. read more
