Food prices are reasonable (except for the steak which was expensive), Soft drinks are expensive, best value is the unsweetened homemade lemonade. As others noted place is small and reservations are recommended.

Over two decades I've been here and somebody finally opens a kosher deli style shop right before I leave. *sigh* Anyway... bit of a hipsterish place in the Bahnhofsviertel. There is no outside signage and the proprietors are apparently proud of the graffiti on the exterior walls since they haven't bothered cleaning it off. In sideis well renovated but relatively small so you might be sharing a table. I had a reuben. Small was nine something and the large 13 something. At first I was taken aback by the price but the sandwich really is big. Pastrami is homemade so nice and juicy from the oven and piled very high. Like New York deli high. Cheese and kraut kind of got lost in there but hey, who ever complains about too much pastrami? Not me. Served with a pickle and a small portion of coleslaw. Very good sandwich. However.... at around €30 for Mrs. S and I to have a good sandwich and a couple of sodas.... that's when you really consider just making it at home. PS: I love the fact that yelp has an ambiance option called "hipster". Saves me moaning.

Unlike most of the restaurants in this hipster neighborhood, Solzer offers traditional German fare, and we started with Handkäs' mit Musik, a chewy, mochi-like cheese dressed with vinegar and onions and served with a slice of farmer's bread. One of their signature entrees was "Solzer's Krüstchenschnitzel," a breaded pork fillet served over a slice of grilled farmer's bread, topped with a fried egg and bacon, and served with green sauce (sour cream and herbs), horseradish, and a refreshing salad (lettuce, tomato, carrots, red onion, peppers, pumpkin seeds) on the side. This was a nicely balanced plate, and the different components came together nicely from the savory, crispy schnitzel to the herbaceous, creamy green sauce and the acidic, refreshing salad. Everything of course went nicely with their apple wine, and the service was friendly and attentive too!

The patio was open and it really gave the restaurant a nice indoor/outdoor feel. When we first sat down, beers were ordered. As Americans, we're used to ordering a pint. What I noticed, Apfelwein Solzer as well as other pubs are serving very large beers, 1.5 or even 2 pint glasses? Am I complaining? Hello no! For my meal I ordered the Hunters Cutlet with Frankfurt sauce. The sauce is the towns local specialty, it tasted herbaceous, very flavorful and unexpected. The place was packed, we had a great meal and was glad we took the Uber from our hotel. The Uber ride back with the driver doing 200 KPH is another story.

I ordered the smallest ribeye steak with baked potato, pepsi-cola light, crepe argentina and coffee. The steak was cooked perfect "medium", but the steak did not have much flavor (being that it's Argentine steakhouse). After adding some crushed black pepper and salt from the table, it tasted much better. The meat was tender but had a bit too much fat on it, so I had to constantly cut pieces around it. Dessert was good but not memorable.

For my money, Maredo could be better average. Steaks were cooked to the right temperatures, even after we performed the linguistic gymnastics to accurately described what we wanted. The was a nice selection of side dishes and these were also at least average. The cuts of meat were plentiful and had a good balance of meat vs. fat even though they were not aged. Where Maredo disappoints is seasoning heir meat. I couldn't even detect as much as a pinch of kosher salt nor a single grinder twist of pepper. Just nothing to make the meat "pop". The other let down for me was dessert. I had been in Germany for two weeks and this was my last dinner before coming home. This was the first time I saw apple strudel on a menu so decided to go for it. What I received was something soggy and doughy that tasted and felt like it was fresh out of a microwave. Two bites and I was done, left the rest on the plate. If the chef decides to make a stop in the spices aisle of the local market and pick up some basis spices and they manage to get some fresh strudel, I could see the stars just flowing in. It would be worth at least one more from this reviewer.
