His response was dismissive and I felt as though he did not take my request seriously or understand where I was coming from. He also made some comments that were unprofessional, distasteful, and disrespectful to anyone who has given birth before. I have had great experiences with the other midwives! I am posting on behalf of someone who is afraid of retaliation from the office. I came in with a recommendation from a GI to get an ultrasound after I got a colonoscopy. When I went in to tell him this, he dismissed my concerns, saying that "this is just a woman's problem" which, by the way, I remind you that this was a gynecologist. When I asked for an ultrasound, he claimed that since he didn't see any reason to do it and so he wouldn't bill my insurance. This is despite the fact that I came in on a recommendation from another doctor. I insisted it be done, even without my insurance paying for it, because I have been having so much pain. After doing it, he DID actually find that there was an issue, and had no clue what to do. So not only is this doctor a jerk, he is also incompetent. He literally said "I don't know who I could recommend you to for this. I could recommend you to a gynecologist but that's me." So basically, he doesn't know how to do his job. Afterwards, I asked, so then can you bill my insurance now because clearly there was a reason to do it and there's something wrong with my body. He told me "No, I already sent the bill, I will not bill your insurance." Despite being wrong, he still wasn't willing to account for his mistakes and demanded I pay him out of pocket. So now I'm paying for this incompetent doctor out of pocket when really I shouldn't be. By the way, when I called initially, I asked to see a female gynecologist. The office couldn't even do that for me (do they even have a female gynecologist? and if they don't why didn't they tell me?), and now I'm frustrated that I saw Dr.Barnes who DISMISSED my concerns, was completely INCOMPETENT, and is OVERCHARGING me because he was too lazy to bill my insurance. Dr. Lauren Fried was friendly and kind right off the back. She was also extremely knowledgeable and well trained & experienced in the unique issues I was having. We came up with a plan to handle the situations and I felt really good about. I did appreciate her expertise and wisdom. The practice in general felt like home walking in the door from the first visit. I am huge on excellence when it comes to customer service as a customer service master myself. I want to also highlight these little sweethearts for their role in making my first visit meaningful, Maisie Bunn, Bloom &KC Caldwell . Attitude reflects leadership. I have NEVER heard of getting a referral for a gynecologist, and my primary doctor hasn't either. My primary doctor said I would be hard pressed to find a primary doctor to refer me because it's not necessary for a gynecologist. Medicare AND United Healthcare also state that a referral is not needed. Needless to say, I will be looking for another gynecologist who doesn't come up with idiot rules and who don't treat their patients like uninformed idiots. Honestly, I feel like they do not want to accept patients with Medicare, and I will be reporting them.
