But back then you had to sort by type, plastic - ONLY 1 and 2, paper, cardboard, glass - separate clear, brown, & green, and metal. You also put stuff in separate dumpsters. But now you just dump everything in the same one. No plastic bags or number 4 plastic better known as styrofoam. It was great when I moved to Southfield 20 years later that this community service is still there. You can drive up, park and take your stuff to the dumpsters. Quick and easy. Wonderful for those of us that live in apartments with no recycling. WTF, shouldn't that be required in the 21st century. My visit there even allowed me to talk to another human being, at a very save social distance. I guess that is what the 21st century world has come to.

Added bonus, they usually cheat me an extra few cents on every pound when I bring in a large amount. Brought in some cable today as well, they brought out a crate on a forklift and took it in on the forklift for me as well. The guys even helped me sort a few extra pieces of number one out of the number two box I brought in. Very honest and going the extra mile, a-plus-plus! Highly recommended.
