This was a surprisingly positive experience, so I was honestly confused when I saw such a low rating. I had an appointment for 9:30 am and arrived at 9:28. I was expecting a huge crowd and that even with an appointment I'd still end up waiting forever (which is usually the case at places like this). But nope -- they called me in exactly at 9:30. I needed a Social Security card replacement, and at first the system threw an error saying my identity couldn't be verified and that the investigation could take months, even though I needed the card ASAP. Luckily, the representative explained that it happened because I'd previously tried to apply online, which I wasn't eligible to do since I'm not a citizen. He deleted my old application, restarted everything, and it worked! A week later I already got the new card mailed to my address. Huge thanks for the punctuality, the clear process, and the genuine willingness to help -- because of that, I was able to get my replacement document so quickly. Found everyone I've dealt with there to be friendly, intelligent and helpful. Even the guy/guard at the door went beyond the call of duty to be helpful. I just walked in without an appointment, and was served at the counter within a half-hour. You can also just call the office, and possibly be assisted that way. Or make an appointment. This score is based on the help I received from Ms. R at Window 9. Exceptional and professional! I chose not to deal with the guard at the door so I brought my ID and my phone...no drink or purse which would cause me to interact with him. He asked if I had an appointment and I said I did and walked past him. This past summer the guard was incredibly rude, nasty and aggressive. I walked behind him and he reminded me the "he had a gun". I asked him if that was supposed to scare me. He's an accident waiting to happen. Probably needs retraining, self esteem classes and a trip to a church. read more

This office needs to be looked at and reviewed. It needs a lot of help. I went there last week and of course was told to leave as I had no idea they do not see the public unless you have an appointment. So went home made an appointment and went back for a 2nd time. I had 3 issues of concern that needed to be worked out and of course at the 10 minute mark of my appointment I was told that my time was up!! So the other 2 issues will have to wait and have yet another appointment. So to get a few simple things done that should only take a few minutes will now take me going there wasting my time at least 3 to 4 different times. The supervisor & person at the window was very nice. However the security guard is Arrogant, Disrespectful, Defensive and much more! This man should NOT be in security - abuse of power - abuse with his mouth. Keeps saying you should have made an appointments - I said I tried told me I had to come to the office - he says you didn't try hard enough you need to call the number - I did this morning for my issue and was on the phone for and hour and half - The girl told me I had to come to the office to get a print out. Do you really think I'm going to call the number again for another hour really.... He says You didn't try hard enough. Really... The guard at the front door insisted we stand in the window 0 line that was closed and when I suggested that he let us be seated in the last row in the order we were standing after being told by him that we would be standing for a long time without an appointment he refused to allow it - and said we should have made an appointment and NO ONE was sitting waiting for an appointment in the chairs. Watch out for the nasty guard! I was unaware that as of Jan. 2025 an appointment is necessary at the PS SS office. The guard just inside the door was the most aggressive and hostile public servant I have ever encountered. He was extremely rude when he found out I didn't have an appointment, and thrust a paper at me and told me to leave. When I attempted to go online to make the appointment he got up in my face very aggressively and told me to "GET OUT!" I was genuinely afraid for my personal safety. I get that we needed to let a large number of Federal public employees go to help balance the budget. I get that I did not know to make an appointment today and would have had to stand in line for 2 hours. What I don't get, though, is the unhelpful and unfriendly little security guard posted at the entrance, incredibly rude to to me and to the folks who arrived just before I did. People in line had to kindly let me know about the possible wait time after he barked, "I do not have any idea!" Terrible, unacceptable, and unprofessional service in office and over the phone. I don't understand how a group of people could be so incompetent. Sure wish the DOGE team would take a look at some of these offices. I have asked for an audit of my account for over a year, and still have not received a reply. Each time I call, I get a new person who knows less than the previous one. I have spoken with Managers, line staff, and I have called my State Representative and Senator about the lack of professionalism and continued lack of care and concern for my concerns regarding an error due to a Social Security glitch. My social security payments were stopped for over a year. I spent hundreds of hours trying to get anyone to assist. Each time I try, my calls are dropped consistently, after holding on the phone for hours. One time I called at 12:30 pm and the phone kept my holding on a ridiculous antiquated answering queue for over 6 hours, and then the call was dropped because the recorded message said the "office was now closed" and it told me to call back later. read more

I just got out of this office and never been disrespected in my whole life. I'm 70 years old and this young hispanic guy treated me like a dirt. He accused me of cursing him when the truth is I did not say the F word. What I said was he is an A**h*** after all the attitude he showed me. He really is. I had an appointment to see someone about filling out waiver for overpayment during Covid. The man that helped me was extremely rude. He belittled me every chance he could. He lied to me saying I didn't qualify for a waiver when I actually do. I just needed help filling waiver out. He became loud with me and I became loud as well. I felt he was judging me though the man didn't know anything about me. He acted like I was taking up his time and provided no help what so ever. I didn't want to give this Social Security Administration here a good review...but here I go. Sometimes you have to deal with government things... so here it is... This location is actually better than I expected. The day before my appointment I had "casually" walked by, during one of my walks, to see if they are an A) appointment required kind of location or a B) walk-in okay kind of location like the DMV. Well, they are definitely an A) Appointment Required type of location. Didn't want to accept it but I called the number that they had posted on their DOOR, as they insisted and there you go... I was able to make an appointment... not years later... not months later... not weeks later... 3 days later. I took the appointment. Showed up to the appointment 20 minutes early. No one was there yet. It was 12:40pm. Pretty soon other people were showing up to wait in line. Of course I'm uncomfortable. Who want to wait in line OUTSIDE of a building ?! Regardless of my discomfort, the security guard was able to take me inside at the time of my appointment and even actually before the time. He was very civil. I was able to process all the paperwork that I needed to process according to what the government expects me to do and it was a smooth process. As I exited the building, there was a man, in a business shirt, business pants, with files in his hand sitting on the ground crying (he was standing earlier before I was brought into the bldg) .... The one star review is for the security guard stationed at the front door. If someone's phone went off by accident he YELLED at them. If someone sat in the wrong seating area, he YELLED at them. The worst thing I witnessed was him threatening to take away someone's number in line and make them go to the back of the line for forgetting to silence their phone. It was shocking to see him treat people so badly in a government office, where mostly older people were just trying to get help. I felt like I was held hostage there for the 1 1/2 hours I waited to be seen. Once it was my turn to be seen, everything was great. The clerk was helpful and nice. It took more than 2 months to straighten out an error made by THEIR AGENT! Something absolutly needs to be done about this agency. More training, stop hanging up on people Ms. Miranda at the San Marcos office. And the Indio office shouldn't tell someone they'll call by the end of the week, and never hear from you (Ms. Nino or Mino). And when someone calls the 24 hr number, if the call gets disconnected somehow, for heavens sake, CALL THEM BACK! I was on hold for over 2 hours and when I finally reached an agent that recognized how seriously messed up my account was, we got disconnected and I had to start all over again. You are a government agency handling the welfare of our country's elderly and disabled. My appointment was timely and customer service was excellent. Office was clean and orderly, the security check took the longest.

I only waited 15 minutes for a representative to answer my questions about the benefits coming back to those of us public service retirees like teachers and emergency responders who retired under different than ss pensions, The teachers I retired with waited 2-5 hours on the national line and some never got a response, The woman who helped me was well informed and was so efficient in helping me and made the correct changes so I would get my retroactive benefits. Today I had the displeasure of dealing with a RUDE and unprofessional employee at this office. When I asked for his name he just said "Santiago" I said is that your last or first name? He said that's all I give out. I asked if that was policy, he said" that's my policy " Long story short, this person should not be allowed to even talk to people, he has an attitude, he's unpleasant to look at, he's just not fit to be in customer service. Service wise I would say it's decent they help you as best they can, I do think they are very very slow, like 1:30mns for standard procedures that should be in and out, even worst if you compare to Indio, where the most you'll wait is 10 to 15 minutes, i would say it needs to improve read more
