Hard to get a appointment. And once seen. It's hard to get appropriate help. Waiting time can be slow . Security is kind and respectful

Things were well-organized; once I found the parking lot and crossed the street to the Merced…read moreCounty Superior Courthouse. I was there to interview as a volunteer juror for the "Civil Grand Jury; which is a judicial body composed of 19 citizens. It is impaneled to act as an "arm of the court," as authorized by the State Constitution, to be a voice of the people, and conscience of the community. California impanels County Civil Grand Juries every year to conduct civil investigations of county and city government and to hear evidence to make recommendations or to decide whether to return indictments. In Merced County, if indictments need to be made, a separate criminal grand jury is impaneled." I had never heard of this type of Grand Jury previously; but I learned a lot by going to the Merced County website https://countyofmerced.com/341/History-of-Grand-Jury and researching it. I recommend that everyone learn more about the legal processes of their local, county and state governments. The information that I found was very useful. My initial reaction had been to ignore the notice or simply say no; however after reading about everything, I decided to go ahead with the interview process. I felt that the interview process was well-thought out: with the majority of the questions the same ones that were asked on the questionnaire that I had returned for the jury selection process. There were a few others that expanded on the original questions; in order to get a better sense of how the interviewee would respond in different situations. I'm glad to have had this opportunity; because I learned quite a bit more about how important individual citizens can be

Could not agree more with the first to review this government…read more From the perspective of being a former employee I have inside information Merced County is stuck in the 1970s running their major systems on COBOL and IBM mainframes. Beginning in 2002 the board canceled all new development in COBOL and began a migration to Megabytes ( a Microsoft Windows application ) used to this day when I as an investor peruse my property taxes on my rental properties and values assigned to the lot and building in the assessor's office. They have a problem measuring square footage of new houses. I had to call them out to re measure after closing escrow in SE and NE Merced: Heritage Homes and Starlight Subdivision ( formerly UA Starlite Drive in ). Merced County almost declared bankruptcy after Strategic Air Command Castle AFB in Atwater closed in 1995 at end of the Cold War when President Reagan bankrupted former USSR before bankrupting ourselves. Merced County survives off property taxes not agriculture due to drought and lackadaisical water management.

Shady Yelp keeps having negative reviews removed from my account so we will see how long this one…read morelasts. This county is so poorly run, it's no wonder it is one of the poorest in the state with the least services. If you contact anyone to get information you will be repeatedly transferred around by someone trying to pass the buck. Zero accountability. The right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. Looking around the various cities in this county, it is clear there is a major lack of proper leadership, and that issue does not look like it will be solved any time soon. The entire house needs to be cleaned and decluttered and whole swaths of employees completely eliminated. 90% of county employees' jobs could be eliminated and life for Merced County residents would not be adversely affected at all.

Indian, Chinese, Traditional American, BBQ places, I-Hop, 2 very good Chinese Buffet's. Don't think I would like to live there though. This place is not a city in the true sense of the word. Hell, it's not even much of a community…read more I agree with Charlie O. about the people being rude. I am friendly when I go out shopping, and people here act like they just don't want to talk at all. People are angry before you even say, "Hello." Also, there are cockroaches roaming the sidewalks everywhere. Everywhere. No one seems to care, or do anything about it. They seem to think it is normal. WTF? It is a huge mistake to move here. I've never had a decent meal at any restaurant here, nor can find decent clothes, or even a decent haircut. Keyword here is 'decent', I'm not expecting the 5 star treatment. I can't even find anything worth 2 stars. Anyone who thinks this place is great has simply never been anywhere else. Cockroaches on the sidewalks & parking lots is NOT normal. Some of the most basic foods & spices & household items are just plain unavailable, even at the few supermarkets in town. Oh yeah, and the local cable company installed a cable box full of roaches, in my clean home, with a straight face. They look at me like I must be crazy when I say roaches are unacceptable & spread disease. If you are thinking of moving here, please reconsider. There is nothing here that cannot be found elsewhere, at a much higher standard. This is the town where dreams come to die, and be eaten by cockroaches. Horrible. City of Merced - get your act together and deal with your "city", it has issues.
