It seems that Rosemary Clooney was born and raised in Maysville and her first movie opened here as well. The theater is very historical and is very lovely. In 1928, a flamboyant and successful Maysville businessman, Col. J. Barbour Russell announced plans to build such a theater in the small town of Maysville at a cost of $125,000. The Russell Theatre was the result of the exciting period of movie palace theater construction. Fast forward to 2017, I took my 18 year old son to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show there. They are trying to restore the building which has fallen into some disrepair. Anyway. The show that night was great! The actors were okay. The movie is a classic. The seats have been removed so you sit on folding chairs.
