I took my grandson to two recent events and both were surprisingly wonderful! My grandson adores going to this library! He is 5 years old and feels so confident the librians are eager to help, he walks up to them on his own and asks for help finding books. ​

Sampled one of their teas, Apricot Brandy, and it was amazing! My second visit was for a Japanese culture class. Another wonderful experience shared with many along with delicious tea. First floor is cozy with plenty of nooks to sit and be comfortable. I see patrons working, reading or crafting enjoying a drink or a pastry the establishment offers. You can also purchase loose leaf tea they serve as well as their branded merchandise along with local designers. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and I am looking forward to many more visits to the Philosopher's House.

After a quick restroom break at the local BP gas station (which has tons of students), I drove onto campus and parked in front of the main administrative building with a memorial bell tower. There's a nice historical marker on the early days of ETSU - which is a public university. The main campus felt surprisingly empty on a Sunday afternoon, but perhaps students were studying for their final exams and completing final papers in their dorm rooms or in the library before May graduation. Although I did not do a formal campus visit, the grounds are pretty and worth a quick visit if you're driving through Johnson City TN and looking for a short pit stop.

As a full disclaimer, I'm not a student here. I visit ETSU Campus every Thursday night with my friend who shows up for is CRU Meeting. This place doesn't just feel like home for students. It feels like home for non students as well. It's just that welcoming. But one of the absolute biggest high points of this campus is, it's the home of ETSU-Con. For those of you who don't know what ETSU-Con is, it's a Anime/Gaming convention held on ETSU Campus itself. They have panels, cosplayers, and even a yearly Costume Contest. But instead of blabbing on and on about ETSU-Con, why don't I just show you what it's like?

The marker reads, "On September 2, 1811, James Nelson deeded to trustees William Nelson, William Duzan, James King, Jacob Hoss and John R. Boring, 4 acres and 8 poles to be used by the Methodist Episcopal Church for a house of worship. For many years a campground for religious meetings was maintained here with a central permanent tent and many family tents. During the Civil War Col. Robert Love's 62nd N.C. Regiment, CSA used the ground as a camp." It is marker number 1A-89 and it was erected by the Tennessee Historical Commission. It does not have a date for when it was installed but it is well faded. So to be on the far side of the state and see some music history is a pleasant surprise. The marker reads, "James Hobart (Hobe) Stanton founded Rich-R-Tone Records in Johnson City. An independent label, it was the first label dedicated to recording bluegrass music. Located at 113 West Main Street from 1946-1952, over half of the 220 songs on the Rich-R-Tone label were recorded here. Rich-R-Tone featured recordings by notable bluegrass acts including Carter and Ralph Stanley, Wilma Lee & Stoney Cooper, and the Sauceman Brothers." The marker reads, "The town was formerly known as Green Meadows, Blue Plum, Johnson's Depot, Haynesville, then Johnson City. It is situated on land grants of 1782 to Robert and Joseph Young and in 1792 to Joseph Tipton. The town charter was repealed in 1879, but incorporated in 1885. The name honors Henry Johnson, prominent merchant and postmaster. As industrial and educational center, it is the home of Milligan College, East Tennessee State University, and Steed College."
