She truly deserves a raise or to be considered for a management position. Employees like her are the reason I love coming to this DMV location. Great customer service is hard to find, and she made the entire experience quick, smooth, and stress-free. Thank you for having such a hardworking and dedicated employee.

Easy in, easy out…read more Nobody really wants to go the DMV, unless you're a teen getting your first license. And that she was - having just passed the driving test at an offsite location in Wilsonville, the daughter and I went to the nearest DMV to get her license. It turned out the Sherwood branch was a zoo, packed with people, a bit surprising for a Tuesday. Once we made our way to the Info booth, we learned that despite having her photo ID / permit, they still needed her birth certificate (again) and supporting documents. So we left empty handed and headed home. Once in Salem, we grabbed what we needed and headed to our local office. I was a bit nervous to see the lines, but was quickly relieved to see a mere fraction of the people in the last branch. She was quickly assigned a number, with only two people ahead, and just like that - there's a new independent teen driver sharing the roadway. Don't fret, if anything, she's overly cautious! Yes, obligatory photo snapped in front of the DMV sign with her temporary license, but no permission to share. I don't know whether to cry tears of joy or sadness now that she can come and go in her own car.

The Show has been going on over 42 years now and proceeds go to fund inmates children to go to a two week summer camp with other kids whose parents are incarcerated. The inmates look forward to this every year and entry is $45.00 (they have to do a background check) and you get notification you are in about 1-2 months before the show. They provide you with an orange shirt which is your to keep, have a great raffle with some pretty cool prizes with some actuallybeing made by the inmates. The staff is friendly and helpful, and best of all, you can easily order most any book and pick it up without much wait at all (for comparison, in other library systems I have had to wait months for a requested book to arrive). My biggest complaint is that the outside drop off box is closed, so you have to return books during hours or at another location. Other than that, it's a very acceptable library.

A remarkably well-executed public library for a small town in one of Oregon's poorest counties…read more Very good layout and ergonomics, especially by comparison with the libraries in neighboring small towns. The collection is strong and often holds titles not held by the Salem library, which is itself progressively managed. A locked cabinet contains the local history collection. There are certainly enough computers available for searching the catalog; I never use public computers for surfing the internet and don't know the library's policy on that, nor do I use wi-fi. There are no microfilm readers but the nearby college library has some. There is a large bulletin board and a row of shelves with books and magazines that one can buy for short money. These are touches that make a library an attraction where people come regularly to hang out. The staff vary in the faces they present to the public. I do not look forward to interacting with some of the women on staff. As the previous reviewer noted, there can be vocal distractions. The tables seem to be gathering places for people who behave as though they were conducting counseling sessions. It is after all public space and perhaps that is considered part of the library mission.

Even inside this small city library there are wood carvings on the shelves and a distinctly cozy feel. But being a small community library, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles I'm used to seeing in the surrounding areas. The hours vary daily and the library is closed on Sunday and Monday. And unfortunately for me, they do not participate in the Oregon Library Passport Program. So no lending materials to those that don't live in the community. I am sure city residents will give it a higher rating, but for a visitor the services are a bit limited. Visiting on a quiet day, I had a nice interaction with the librarian and there are materials about Mt. Angel available in the vestibule.

On a return visit I was not as impressed with staff civility. The building itself was handsome and well-designed, with exposed hammer beams and excellent ergonomics, a tribute to city management. Dead quiet when I was there. The fiction holdings seem conventional, newish. For fine journals they have "The Economist" and "The New Yorker". The nonfiction holdings looked strong for a small library and the new nonfiction books demonstrated a remarkable breadth of intellectual interests, and my admiration was only increased by a return visit. Many people nationwide have dreams of moving to Oregon towns and they might well entertain thoughts about what the neighbors will be like. What I have seen on the nonfiction shelves would indicate there are penetrating thinkers in this community. In the foyer there is a small bulletin board and shelving for a wide range of brochures explaining local services, attractions, etc. Would give five stars, but for it being a smallish library and a staff I don't have the measure of yet.
