Went in to have my name changed after getting married and it was the smoothest process I've ever gone through! I have never had to visit the social security office prior to getting married before, but I expected it to be slow and hectic like most government offices. First off, it was easy to get too, but limited parking. I got there right at opening time (9am) and was still able to find a spot. There was a long line already formed so I made my way to the back with my 4 year old. The doors opened right on time and the line started flowing right in! An employee came outside and attended to the line giving each of us a number. Once I made my way inside about 5 minutes later, a man told me to head towards the back and I was helped immediately! I'm not sure how they run things in there, but it was fast, efficient, and organized like a damn Chick-fil-a! Happy it was a breeze! read more

What could imrove? Everything. My appointment was at 9:50, we got here at 9:40, did the whole check in process. I have now been sitting here for 3 hours. 3 freaking hours just to get a new Social Security card ordered. There's about 9 stations just not being used and if you want to sit in one of the unused cubicles to call someone without dealing with the overcrowded lobby, the lazy security card comes over and kicks you out. Like jesus I think i'd rather sit on I-10 in stop and go traffic than sit here for any longer. Figure it out read more

Get more staff! I once waited almost 4 hours on hold to talk to someone. It was really important or I wouldn't have done it. Never got through but got a lot done around the house while waiting! Pathetic!!! read more

The worst of the worst. They incapable of doing the simplest of tasks.I use to be able to go into the office now they have some damn ass code so unless you know it you can't even call them to make an appointment. Visited their website ahead of time to make sure I had the correct paperwork needed and learn their business hours. Arrived on a Monday morning 20 minutes before they open (9am), did find parking lot but there were easily 60 people in line ahead of me. (Perhaps more) The social security office opened their doors 10 minutes ahead. Their staff was very well organized and quickly triaged everyone so the line moved quickly. I was quickly seen and I was out of there by 9:20am. Happy joy joy! I cannot deny how surprised I was at the high efficiency of the staff and willingness to assist/triage everyone. My experiences with office have less than appropriate for a government agency. One would assume that individual's trained in specific areas of Social Security would be able to correct answers to common questions. When I went to get information regarding retirement they seemed very confidential but as it turned out gave me entirely incorrect information. When my wife went there to apply for disability the same thing occurred. They seem to unable to know answers to, what I would assume, everyday questions . The other issue with this office is they don't tell you the complete process. They leave out important details of processes that you only find out after calling the main customer service number and even than you might have to speak with several individuals before you get the whole picture. I've been to this office twice. I lost my social security card and needed a replacement. The second time I brought a friend from Mexico to apply for one. FYI, the process is a bit different when you're from another country. She thought she needed a card for her kids but they don't qualify for one. All she needed to have was her passport and official birth certificate to get one for herself. Although it's sort of hard to find parking, it didn't take long to finish. The office is always packed! Luckily, we just had to sign into a computer for a number and get in a short line. I guess it depends on what you need. I was in and out both times in around 20 minutes. It took me about 10 to find parking! I had to park at the nearby gas station one of the times. The staff was helpful. They filled out the information on the computer both times. No paperwork had to be filled out by me or my friend. I can't say it's my favorite place (I'd compare to going to the DMV) but they get the job done quickly. Most of the clerks also speak Spanish. I would rather go to this office instead of the one downtown. The one downtown always has a line outside whenever I've driven past it. read more

If you don't get here before the doors open you risk parking far from the building. The wait time is considerably less in the morning...if you're first in line. I've had good experiences and some bad ones. Being labeled or discriminated is something I've had to deal with the few times I've visited. Once they gather the facts they change their tune. I hate how some of them jump to conclusions and are quick to judge. Anyhow, there is a few caring individuals that work there. They make me feel like they genuinely care. They are helpful and knowledgeable. Often times I cringe at the thought of getting someone who will take one look at me and assume I'm trying to cheat the system. I really don't care how many people they've encountered that have falsified information to gain benefits. Please don't assume that about everyone. Gather the facts first and take it from there. Calls are scam. Received call and I ignored the call. Voice mail was left. Automated call stating my social security number was flagged and to push 1 to take care of it or I would be arrested. Guess I will take the chance and be arrested. read more

I never received my newborns social security card. I called to check the status and they said it was approved and I should be getting it. After a few weeks later, I never received it so I went there and was told I had to wait to reapply if I didn't get it by the end of the month. My son is now 3 months and I still have not received it. I don't understand how there's not a better system. Why would you mail a social security card and not certify it or make it available to be picked up. This is one of the most important documents a person has and they just simply mail it with no safety precautions. Mind blowing. Now I'm nervous someone may have my babies SSN and out doing who knows what. read more

Very, very poor service, every time my husband take my pay stubs we have the problem that they don't have any record from previous months, they are not responsible to keep current information and make us to spend time and get upset because they don't do their job, please not because you work for the Government, you have to provide useless service...... we need more qualified people for this kind of jobs. read more
