Walking to each location you get full history of the island.

We had mixed feeling before we booked this tour since we are frequent visitors to Coronado. However we were very pleased and surprised at the end of the day. Why it's called a food tour you get a lot more than "here taste this", you get a very complete historical tour of the city and some great food sampling keyed to the tour. Definitely recommend for occasional or frequent visitors to the island. We are going on another one when we return in 6 months.

Barb was great on our SoCal food tour of Coronado!
    Malia R.

Barb was fantastic and very sweet. We do food tours all over the country and we looked at this tour as a pleasant day to stroll Coronado and learn a few new things about the city. I disagree with the other yelpers - you need to take these tours with an open mind - enough said. Yes, we could have walked Orange ourselves but it was more fun making new friends over Gelato. Hey Barb, you should think about a happy hour Coronado tour! That would be fun! Keep up the good work Barb. Thank you. Rich, Malia & Stina

We started out at the Our Lady of the Rosary Church for the history of the Italians coming to San Diego. It was stunning the day after Christmas and some of the Pastors were there too. Then we went through The Piazza to Davanti's where we had a cocktail, Pizza, Bruschetta and Ricotta cheese toast with honey ... SO YUMMY!!! We stayed here a bit long for all this food but they accommodate me having a pine nut allergy which was very nice. Then onward to Landini's (the upstairs restaurant) where we had meatballs and pancetta with mozzarella with a little red wine ... again incredible!! We were late for our last stop before dessert so he improvised in the best way possible and Monello's accommodated our party of 11 with a liqueur, bread with shaved amazing cheese then the mist heavenly lemon cheese homemade pasta stirred together in a cheese wheel. We were stuffed by this point but then we had dessert. Salunto bakery and gelato. I had coconut gelato. What a great night. We got history, a beautiful walk and the most food I've ever had on a food tour. Excellent job!!!

No one ever mentioned a deposit was required, so I assumed my reservation was confirmed. When I arrived, I was told they didn't have my gondola reserved. It was extremely upsetting and honestly ruined my birthday celebration. What made it more frustrating was that it made me feel like it was my fault for not paying a deposit, even though I was never asked to provide one. Unfortunately, there weren't any real solutions offered at the time, and my friends had work schedules, so we couldn't simply reschedule. It was a very disappointing experience. I hope to return in the future and have the experience I originally planned, but I do hope there is clearer communication moving forward so others don't experience the same issue.

This was, hands down, the best walking tour we've done, and we do these regularly around the world. We met our guide, Blerta (aka B) under the Gaslamp sign, and promptly started our tour. Our first Bites and Booze stop was at Meze Greek Fusion, were we sampled sangria and an interesting Greek quesadilla (sounds strange, yet it worked). We learned a bit about the company that owns Meze, and then continued our tour through the Gaslamp, learning a ton about its history. Our second stop was at Double J's BBQ, where we enjoyed an in-house lager and a pork belly taco. For those who "know" BBQ, and think that there's no way a BBQ joint works in CA, of all places...think again. This was damned good. We continued our tour, again learning more about the history of the Gaslamp. Let me interject here and say that Blerta was a fountain of information, delivered in a way that you can tell she loves doing these tours. Our third stop was The Field - an Irish restaurant that we've visited in the past (when one is married to an Irish woman, you can sort of expect that). It's always fun to walk through the restaurant, where the decor is over 100 years old. We tried an Irish Mule (go figure) and a Shepard's Pie. For me, the bite wasn't my thing...but then, I'm not Irish. Our last stop was a stunner - Cali Cream. I'm not a sugar person, so rarely have ice cream. But Blerta gave us the rundown on how they make the ice cream every morning, so when it was time to place my sample order, I went with Rocky Road (truly the Champaign of ice cream, IMHO). My wife with with Pistachio. The samples were HUGE, and incredibly delicious (easily the best Rocky Road I've ever had). Bottom line, GREAT way to spend an afternoon exploring the history of the Gaslamp (who knew there were so many brothels in Gaslamp in the 1800s?) The booze and bites selections were well done, Blerta was simply awesome, and we'll definitely be giving So Diego Food Tours another go. HIGHLY recommended.

Restaurants were mostly clustered around the Gaslamp District but some were quite a few blocks out of the way. I was pleasantly surprised there was a free shuttle. It was awesome riding in style through downtown. There were 40 stops but I just made it to these. Florent had tender delicious beef. Looked like it was perfect for adding to a beef stew dish. Whiskey Girl had wings which were tender and juicy with a little spicy kick. Meatballs had a nice beefy flavor. Casablanca Lounge had fried zucchini sticks. Nice crunchy batter sized like big french fries. I prefer big zucchini spears where you get more zucchini flavor and less of the batter. 10 Barrel Brewing had pork belly. Delicious crunchy pork goodness. Samples were the size of jelly beans. Wish I could have gotten seconds of this dish. Knotty Barrel had cornflake breaded chicken strips. Crunchy and nice flavor. Wish these were available back in the day when I was eating chicken nuggets 10 at a time at McDonalds. East Village Tavern and Bowl had bbq meatballs. Good beefy flavor with sweet and tangy sauce. Rustic Root had braised venison which was really tender and juicy. Blend of gamey and salty flavors very strong. Jolt N Joe's had cajun chicken fingers. Crunchy batter and nice slightly spicy flavor. Burger Lounge had beef sliders. Nice char on the beef and delicious beefy flavor. Havana 1920 had shredded braised beef which had a nice beefy flavor. The Field had Guinness beef stew. Loved the flavors from the beef and veggies. This dish was my fav of the evening. Great singer playing guitar. Wish I had time to listen more. Le Parfait Paris had macarons. I chose the mango passionfruit one. Nice mixture of tart and sweet flavors. My fav dessert of the evening. This event had a good variety of samples from a lot of restaurants. I did a ton of walking and was exhausted at the end. I only took the shuttle once as there was a 20 minute wait for it unless you got lucky. It would have been awesome if there were 2 shuttles.
