I didn't enjoy the reasons that I needed to seek out Soba treatment center. But even though I had my reservations and doubts the staff and management here was helpful and friendly. They offered multiple resources, classes and other support systems to aid in my recovery journey. I'm extremely thankful to Soba for their part in righting my life and helping me get back on track. Staff plays favorites. Shannon the case manager did nothing to help me, she has Napoleon complex and will not help you achieve your goals. Staff seems under qualified and they only read out of the big book every group.the white women in the kitchen was rude to me my whole stay because I opened the food while she was chain smoking cigarettes. Overall just a horrible experience. I'll be calling my insurance the make sure this place isn't falsely billing for classes and instructors they didn't have. DO NOT GO HERE!!! I live in California and traveled to Texas for treatment.I'm an 18 year old girl who wanted to get treatment before my addiction got bad. I only used for a couple months and was struggling with depression. I was very scared and when I got there I was immediately treated differently. Certain patients would get special privileges such as getting their phones right away or getting to go out on outings while I had to wait for "approval" despite following the rules. 1 week being there, the chef got fired for sending genital pictures to the female patients. Then we had to make our own food which led to no food at all and were practically starved throughout the day. THEN one of the patients in sober living tested for fentanyl and got sent back to the rehab. She somehow convinced everyone that she didn't consume it and got sent back to sober living(no biggie but for me...). Here's we're it gets messed up. A patient was picking up drugs every week and using. He got other patients to use. Eventually I gave in ( It was my DOC and was 2 weeks in my sobriety ) I took some and one patient OVERDOSED in front of me. I was Traumatized !! Somehow they blamed me even though I have never been in Texas and don't have a Connect to drugs. Everyone got to stay but me. They told me to pack my things and within the same hour I was at the airport ALONE as an 18 year old girl with no funds or any type of guidance to see if I'll be okay alone. They told lies to my mom which led her to not helping me. I had to literally convince them to kick out the guy who was using the whole entire time .. IN FRONT OF ME.. he got 3 hours to pack, choose where to go, and to call his parents. He told me everyone was laughing saying they didn't realize he was high. He came to the airport for me. A staff member took us to a motel later only because she liked him, if he wasn't there she wouldn't of came. (Im serious, she took my phone when I got in the car) when she took us to a motel, she was back the next day and was able to locate a homeless addict to get needles , meth, heroine , and bought beer. I have never shot up or been around people who did. She did it in front of me and begged me to do it. I was able to escape but later found out she got fired for drug use with that patient and recorded sex tapes that were sent to other ex patients in the rehab... fuck them now I'm in a worse position and I want to die read more

Soba has been an excellent recovery center for me personally. Unfortunately, I went to a different rehab a couple of years ago and it was very heavy handed. Soba is the opposite of that. They are caring and allow you some freedoms such as using your cell phone and watching tv. The therapists and techs are very compassionate and supportive in your recovery. read more

I can't say enough good things about Soba. I do not work for soba or have any affiliation with them aside from being a client at 2 separate Soba facilities over the course of a decade. A little back history about me and my family In 2012 both of my brothers, my mother and myself were all in substance abuse treatment at the same time at Soba Malibu and we all stayed there for over a year. I was there for 5 years with 3.5 of them being in the Soba sober living. My youngest brother will have 9 years this month working a strong solid program. My mom has stayed sober as well. I relapsed right around 4 years of sobriety. I guess looking back on it now it was partially due to the fact that I moved out of sober living and thought I had the whole sobriety thing thought I was good and partially due to me always having this small reservation that one day I would be able to control it. So shortly after relapsing I moved back home to Michigan got pregnant and am now a full time single mom to a beautiful 5 year old boy . Sounds great right? Well, right now it is! By the grace of God I haven't had a drink in going on 2 years and today that reservation is totally gone and alcohol does not control any part of my life today . . But it hasn't always been that way. 2 years ago I found my self on a depressed downward spiral. I contemplated suicide every night for 3 weeks straight. Alcohol had taken over my life I couldn't live without it but I couldn't live with it either. The mental obsession was so strong that for the first time in my life I thought the only way out was to end my life. Finally after a little sign from God telling me I couldn't leave my son without both parents and a phone number I had saved from the owner in of my old treatment center Soba I sent a text. I told him who it was that I was going to kill myself and that I needed help and within 10 minutes the phone rang it was him. I spoke with him then called my parents and told them what was going on because I had not told anyone before I spoke with Greg. The next morning I was on my way from Michigan to Soba Texas. Let me tell you what although it was Texas and not California where I had been for so long before and I did not know a single person there, I instantly felt like I was at home. I got through the detox and got to work. I'm happy to say thanks to SOBA and the amazing people they have working around the country I haven't had a drink since the day I sent Greg that text message, and that other brother who was out in California with my mom, brother and I, he is currently in treatment at Soba Texas. My entire family is sober thanks to SOBA!! read more

Our son was among the first to go into Soba Texas. After a long struggle, we thought Soba was finally the relief and the answer we were so desperately seeking -- as they market themselves to be a "long-term" dual diagnosis facility. After personally confirming with the director, Alex Draghici, and the owner, Greg Hannley, that they did indeed have a certified psychiatrist that sees the clients regularly, that they really were who they claim to be as a dual diagnosis treatment facility, and really know what they're doing in treating addiction, we relaxed with the decision to admit our son, and had great hopes and realistic expectations. Everything was great for more than the first two-and-a-half months. In fact, SO great, that they had asked us to go on television for one of their PAID infomercial shows as a testimony for their facility. I now thank God that didn't happen before everything quickly fell apart. Our son was taken off a medication by -- what he, other clients and even staff members thought and were led to believe was a "board certified psychiatrist." When I questioned it I was told, "The psychiatrist knows what he's doing." After our son mentally unraveled over more than a two week period, which was being observed and reported by the techs and the roommates to the director, Alex, and was ignored -- and NOT reported to us, by the way -- everything fell apart within days. I was shocked and confused. I started asking questions, digging deep and discovered the neglect and the outright deception that had taken place. Our son was sent to be "stabilized" and promised to be returned to the facility. I discovered that he was never seen by a psychiatrist in that entire time at Soba!! And they were talking with me about getting our Harvard graduate, board certified psychiatrist on board with their facility, which was also RIGHT HERE IN TOWN. I would've happily picked up our son to be seen by a legitimate psychiatrist and remain safe, rather than suffer through the horrible result that came from the wrong direction of what turned out to be a physician's assistant that everyone referred to as "Dr. Keith" -- who they also were all led to believe was the psychiatrist. Once I figured this out and was very upset, they wanted our son OUT. They were not going to allow him back after being stabilized at another facility. I really didn't want him back there, but he had stayed sober, wanted to stay sober and had a real connection with his counselor, case manager and the other clients. I had a health professional at the interim facility tell me that he had never seen anything like this. I didn't understand why they would do this. He told me, "Ma'am, they're really doing your son wrong." He said it was unheard of that nobody from Soba called to check in to see how he was, no medical professional from Soba came to see him, and then they were going to abandon him and leave him there. I asked why they would do this. He has insurance and they're getting PLENTY of money from them. He told me it's "easy dollars vs. hard dollars." I was dumbfounded. He explained that there are plenty of people needing rehab and they're going after the easiest and weeding out the ones they have to work harder for as they turn them over. WOW. I then realized that this is just a big business for many. How predatory to make money off of the most vulnerable and not care whether they live through the next relapse or not. I had to drive to the facility to confront them, as nobody was taking my calls. They reluctantly took him back. I took him to his trusted psychiatrist on Monday. He was getting better, but then Soba put him on added medications that aren't typically used any longer and are known agitants. WHY?! Why would anyone competent do that?! It was topped off by him being maced for the first time in his life by a hot-headed security guy and then the very next morning -- after the nurse and techs apologized to me that night for that terrible assault on our son, and all saying he had been better, should have been left alone, was not a problem and that new security guy should have never approached him -- Alex decided the next morning that they were going to drop our son off at the homeless shelter here in San Antonio -- Haven for Hope. UNBELIEVABLE. Soba has a slogan: "Living the Dream" REALLY?! SERIOUSLY?! What a joke and SO offensive. Based on our true and horrible experience, the Soba motto should actually be: "When Living the Dream Becomes Your Worst Nightmare." This was neglect and medical fraud. I had referred several clients in the beginning. Every single one and more that I know of relapsed. Many of the workers were very upset with what was going on there. If you're looking for a babysitter and a frat house, this is the place! If you want REAL help, seek The Arbor, La Hacienda, etc. Our son is now over nine months sober...thank GOD! NEVER should our loved ones go into a rehab and come out more harmed and damaged than before! read more

Soba saved my life and taught me to be happy again. I was broken and defeated when I arrived at Soba. I am now happy, serene, and able to face life thanks to the incredible staff at Soba. The program addressed more than my addiction, it also addressed the underlying causes of my addiction. The long term recovery allowed me the time and the tools to move forward with my life, a life that is worth living. I do not believe there is a way to put into words the love I have for the people at Soba. From the owner to the housekeepers, I felt the love they have for every resident. Every member of the staff always took the time and effort to make themselves available to me. I never had a need that was not met. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that with help form SOBA TX I have a new lease on life. This treatment facility was able to offer me much more than 2 previous 30 day treatment facilities and 1 other long-term center had to offer. I'm grateful for all the support from the medical and clinical teams as well as each and every tech. A huge factor in my success at this facility was from the rewarding experience of working with my case manager and therapist. With a sincere desire to overcome addiction SOBA offered me an ideal program and environment to achieve my treatment goals and I believe they can do the same for anyone who is ready to take the first steps toward recovery. read more

This place is a SCAM! I took my wife there for a 30 day alcohol treatment program. The first thing they did in addition to the alcohol program was to get her hooked on multiple medications and anti depressants. She began drinking again within two weeks of leaving SOBA and now coupled with the multiple medications they prescribed is worse. My company insurance offered SOBA $17,000, plus the $1,000 I paid. Let's do the math, $18,000 divided by 30 days = $600.00 per day. Believe me, this place is a rat hole and not the Ritz Carlton for $600 per day. But, they wouldn't settle with my insurance, they want $40,000, over $1300 per day. As I said, THIS PLACE IS A SCAM, do not take anyone you care about to this facility.
