You pay when…read moreyou go in at the ferry gate(no need to purchase ticket in advance), and you don't have to show receipt or anything when you return. In their spring/summer time they have 2 ferries operating and comes every 30 min. While in the fall/ winter, there is only one. On the ferry you can get out, go up to the upper deck (if you on the Mirabeena) to enjoy the view. It is a very pleasant ride to see the island of Tasmania! Very much worth the time visiting bruny island. Side note, there is a bathroom on the ferry incase you are rushing to catch the ferry. :)
