This place has got to be one of the sweetest furniture stores I have come across, It boasts pieces that are understated but beautiful in the simplicity of their design. What I love about their range is that it doesn't boast huge cumbersome pieces that are overly grandiose or OTT. Instead I feel the furniture is designed to be seamlessly transitioned into your living room..almost like its been there all along. Made out of solid Oak and Elm these pieces have been manufactured to meticulous european standards and have withstood my rigorous testing (This includes jumping up and down on the chairs and knocking importantly on wooden surfaces.) If you are moving into a new pad or feel the need to update those digs I highly recommend popping into Modern,

The shop itself is gorgeous, with young and beautiful staff to match. There's a mixture of things to browse from armchairs, to jeweled sandals, to fabrics, to ornaments and statement pieces for the home. Given that it's located on ritzy James Street, I assumed that the prices would be higher, but they're actually quite reasonable. I would very happily add many a St Barts piece to my home and will be back soon to see what else they have to offer. The shop is brand new and has yet to build a hype surrounding its existence. From what I saw in store, it will only be a matter of time before St Barts has a steady following.

A new shop always seems so promising and adds a nice freshness to shopping areas that you already know inside out. I actually just came across St Barts on the weekend when I was on my way to Harveys and couldn't resist a peek. St Barts sells clothes, accessories, and homewares and their style seems quite eclectic. They had some lovely cushions and cute accessories, and I got the impression that they're still in the process of fully stocking their shop so I'll look forward to poking my nose back in there in a few weeks to see what it's like when they get fully into the swing of things. The prices are a little bit lower than I would have expected based on St Barts's location and exterior so that was a nice surprise. I exchanged a quick hello with the sales assistant and then she left me to browse which I always appreciate, especially in areas like James street where a lot of the stores seem to employ hoverers. It is interesting to see a few fresh storefronts on James street and this is one of them. St Barts is only young yet, and I'm excited to see what it'll grow into!

The shop boasts an air of cluttered decadence; everything is kind of mashed into one place but it only adds to The French Corner's magic. They have some singularly gorgeous pieces, including a thickset white bedframe and the most amazing 20th century vanity and mirror I have ever seen. They also have an array of dazzling jewellery and accessories littering the side cabinets. Wading through the organised chaos is half the fun, because it allows you stumble across some hidden treasures. Just make sure you don't bump anything. I find that walking into The French Corner transforms you into a glutton; you can't just stop at one item. Once you pick up one thing you see a million others and can't bear to leave them behind. And yes, some of their pieces are rather expensive, but they also have a range of fairly priced items - most of them unique items that you'd be hard-pushed to find elsewhere. You can distinguish the shop easily from its trademark sign and if that fails, its beautiful vintage luggage and dressmaker mannequins lining the shopfront will give it away. It's an excellent place for gift ideas and for bits and bobs to add a stylish and quaintly furnished touch to any décor. If you're in the area and have some spare time, I definitely recommend popping in for a look and getting lost in another world.

You can tell that it gets a lot of customers from the road as cars pull up out front just for a quick browse. It is the kind of store that is way out of my price range (most of my furniture is second hand and falling apart) but is filled with the stuff I dream of having. There was an old clock outside that I would die to have but the $260 price tag was enough to stop me from impulse buying it. Walk inside and there are three rooms packed with everything from a dining table to a small model vespa. If you are like me and never know what to get someone for their wedding, or birthday than this is the perfect place. Everything is that little bit fancy and very very French. There is barely enough room to walk and if the place has more than a few people in it you end up doing those awkward dances to get around each other. But it is well worth it just to look at all the decadent decorations they have on offer.

Absolutely appalling customer service…read more We purchased two coffee tables from Jardan -- standard sizes and colours, nothing custom -- only to be told afterwards that they're "made to order" and can't be returned. At no stage during the sales process was this policy explained to us. It was buried in fine print, and conveniently ignored until we raised an issue. Now we're stuck with expensive furniture that doesn't work in our space, and Jardan's response has been cold, inflexible, and frankly insulting. Hiding behind vague policies and refusing to stand by your products is disgraceful for a brand that positions itself as premium. We run a retail business and would never treat customers this way. Jardan has lost us for good -- and we'll be making sure others are well aware of our experience. Avoid this brand at all costs.

Jardan's position is that because my name is not on the original receipt and the sofa is second-hand, they are no longer liable. The structure has struck me as beautiful for years; when I was a child, this house was literally my dream house. I visited this "house" today. Because I wasn't intending to buy anything I looked at it all without worrying about price tags (though when I did glimpse a few it confirmed my suspicions: expensive). I felt like I could therefore just enjoy the store as an experience, because the homeware items, toys and antiques here are really quite quirky. I wandered about, absorbed in what felt like looking at art, and suddenly there was a bustling cafe in my face. I realized I'd become so absorbed I'd hit the base of the stairs leading to a cafe. Even the existence of the cafe seemed other-worldly; you don't see many coffee shops inside homeware stores. Unsurprisingly, I got lost on the way out. (Partly the result of embarrassment over having almost fallen onto stairs, partly because the place is quite maze-y.) A lovely staff member approached me, comprehended my dilemma and helped me. She also laughed at my self-deprecatory jokes, which is obviously the most important thing.

This store is not cheap but the merchandising and make a fun experience. This is the sort of store I can imagine myself shopping in if I ever become a 'lady who lunches' so I could invite my friends over for tea and show off my Blake and Taylor furniture. A lot of the things sold here have a vintage look that somehow manages to look modern. I think painting everything white and keeping everything free from too much embellishment is what makes things look chic rather than look like something your grandma would have in her guest room. I found the most amazing vanity at this store. It was all white with a huge round mirror and there was a cute little stool to go with it. It was adorable but at $350, I really did not need it (who really NEEDS a vanity anyway). Blake and Taylor is a treat to visit. Even if you are not a "lady who lunches" yet, it is a nice store to walk around and look at all the pretty things.

However she said if we were to buy it she would honour the sale price but only on this occasion so we had to think fast and not leave the store (nice sales tactic). This obviously created a sense of urgency and we ended up buying the table as it was a great price. Then came the $153.95 shipping fee on top (why not have a Australian supply?). But imagine my disappointment when I discover a few days later the table is on sale online for cheaper than we paid in store! Finding this out I attempted to cancel delivery but it had already shipped and now I was liable for a 20% restocking fee. Long story short, this happened on 9th August, it is now 23rd August. I have left a message for the store manager to call me back but no luck, on 2 occasions American Pottery Barn staff have said they will call me back and no luck. Today I have been told again I will get a call back and not only that a full refund inclusive of shipping and restocking totalling $957...I await to see if after 5 phone calls I can finally forget this shopping experience. p.s - a further 2 phone calls (taking the total up to 7). Store manager still have the decency to call, assistant called and no question about the poor service received just asked for card number. It is free to say sorry, explore why customers have had poor service, reassure and take steps to make sure it doesn't happen again and customers shall return. I'll only be returning if there is a sign saying under new management.
