When you actually have a towel to wipe with…read more... Hard to believe that allowing "one towel", to reused again and again is a better "solution"?

I paid for 2 memberships to this gym for almost two years. When I decided to cancel, I contacted…read morethe owner, Debora Vischer and discussed what I needed to do to cancel my memberships, which I promptly did, on March 5th of 2016. She then failed to actually cancel my memberships and, unbeknownst to me, I was charged $65 a month for a year, which gobbled up all the money in the account and finally overdrafted the account in March of 2017, which was when I discovered her error. I had paid a total of $706 and incurred an additional $60 overdraft fee for the last charge in March of 2017. I met with her in her office and at first her position was that I had failed to submit written request to cancel. Then she found my email in her computer, dated March 5th 2016. She begrudgingly wrote me a check in the amount of $320.50, which is only 10 months repayment of only one of the memberships. (I was actually owed 11 months repayment on both memberships) As for the other membership, it had been transferred to another store, in Toledo. (My husband attends UT, and often used the AF gym there) She informed me then that company policy states that if you use your membership for more than 50% of the time at a different Anytime location, your contract gets shifted to that store. Since they receive the payment, I would have had to cancel with them directly a year ago, when I cancelled my membership with her. I asked her why she didn't tell me that a year ago when I spoke with her about cancelling my memberships. I had been very clear with her during the cancellation process that I had two memberships and wanted to cancel them both, and at NO POINT EVER did she inform me of this policy. She blithely responded that I should have read my contract better. I contacted the AF in Toledo, and the owner there promptly and professionally addressed the problem and issued a full reimbursement without incident. I again contacted Debbie Vischer to inform her that she and miscalculated and she still owed me one month of repayment. Her response to that was to yell, call me names and accuse me of lying. She taunted me, saying 'good luck' trying to get my money back from the other store, because they weren't going to reissue payment. (Except they already had) and I can call corporate if I wanted to but they weren't going to do anything about it. (I had already done that as well, and about that she was right. Corporate offered absolutely no tangible resolution and refused to get involved with finance issues, even in the case of a proprietor stealing money and verbally abusing a client.) In the end, even after reimbursement, her mistake still cost me $136.75, and she was an absolute beast to deal with. Later, as I told this story to some other people in town, I learned that this sort of conduct is not uncommon at her location, and the same thing has happened to many people who had accounts there.
