Rainbow Days - Just moved to Dallas. Want to find employment with a non-profit organization.

Rainbow Days is one of the BEST nonprofit organizations in Dallas…read more Rainbow Days first came to my attention randomly years ago when I was looking for an organization to donate to, but due to a career change I've had the privilege to network with them thanks to my work as a housing case manager and substance use disorder counselor, and I cannot tell you what this organization means to so many families who are hit hard by housing instability and homelessness. I sit in awe at the wonderful activities that encourages the kids to look beyond their present circumstances, dare to dream big, focus on their education, tap into their feelings, stay drug and tobacco free, and most of all, have fun and stay kids. You'd be amazed what this organization can do with a little and how many kids they help each year. It is something in the tune of 142,000! They do summer camps, fun summer outings, they are involved in Turkey Dunk, Back to School Kick Off that provides brand new uniforms and school supplies, they supply diapers and other baby items year around to various organizations and so, so, so much more. I think their major messages they instill in the kids say it all: " I AM likeable, capable, unique and valued. I CAN treat others like I want to be treated. I HAVE strengths, capabilities and people who care about me. I WILL make healthy choices and be alcohol, tobacco and drug free. I BELIEVE I have a purpose." If you see the smile on these kids faces you too will want to donate. I'm serious. Every time they come back they are exhausted but still smiling from ear to ear. Five stars all around for them making such an amazing difference in our city and showing the kids how special they are.

They get back to me via email in a decent amount of time or I've emailed again. I will say it's more work and more responsibility on you than with other organizations I've worked with, but they also have a different structure and setup. Check them out at their Community Beer Co location and have a chat if you want to get an idea how they operate. We're all trying to help animals!

As a new volunteer, you are provided training but when you ask questions you are belittled and made to feel incompetent. When I asked questions, I was responded to by Jaqueline "I told you this x amount of times last month or how we went over this already" or she would send screenshots on when she provided me the answer. As a new volunteer, you should ask questions even if things do not make sense because it is a learning curve so things will be asked repeatedly. If you are not interested in training people, then don't or maybe trainers need to be given leadership and communication classes. She was very rude & had a nasty delivery. By this being a company that is mainly ran by volunteers no one should ever be spoken to in this manner. Jenny eventually stepped in and asked if I wanted to be placed in another dept however, but no one ever said sorry or took accountability for how I was spoken to on numerous attempts. Even when I asked "do you have a moment to talk" Jaqueline said "No I do not" it was like pulling teeth followed by smart remarks!! I was solely trying to volunteer out the kindness of my heart, but I will not be spoken to disrespectfully. I have a whole MBA and I run programs by career so I would've been an asset but oh well!! I'm not dealing with disrespectful people who have a smart mouth!!! One bad apple can truly ruin a company's reputation. In the future, I hope they take accountability, train individuals to be patient with new volunteers, and provide volunteers apologies instead of brushing over someone's ignorant behaviors!!! Hopefully, they take better care of the animals because their communication and leadership to volunteers is poor.

I've fundraised for several events and have been a mentor for multiple triathlon teams, and I cannot see myself stopping anytime soon. I can honestly say that I have met some of the most wonderful and fantastic people thru this organization and have made definite life-long friends. The staff is amazing and all clearly love their jobs. They work hard to not only help you reach your fundraising goals, but they make sure you get all the training you need as well. They really want you to not only finish your event, but to enjoy every step of the journey. If you're looking for a way to get more involved, TNT is a fantastic option. No experience necessary and no athletic talent required :)

Not only did I enjoy learning more about hiking - and discovering that Dallas and Fort Worth actually have some hills to hike - but I also stumbled upon so many fantastic friendships that have stood strong throughout the years. I was the youngest participant on my team by quite a few years (maybe a decade or two) the first season but those new friends taught me so much. I didn't have a strong connection to the cause when I joined; I just wanted to get involved. One of the main questions you get asked in the first few weeks is what motivated you to join the team. We would share stories from husbands and wives, children and parents, friends and co-workers. Every story touched my heart. Additionally, being involved with LLS through TNT opened me up to people in my life who had a connection to blood disease. One was my dentist who surprisingly gave me $100 donation after I mailed him a letter, another was a good friend's step-dad who ended up receiving a bone marrow transplant and a third was a co-worker who announced just before my trip that he had been diagnosed with Leukemia. As these stories and these people became a part of my life and my journey, it made the final adventure even more meaningful and somewhat magical. My first hike took me to the Grand Canyon and my second to Big Bend (TX). I hope to do another event with TNT again. It does take a large commitment - giving up your Saturdays for training for months at a time. Everyone says that the fundraising will come easy; you never believe them no matter how comfortable you are asking or how outgoing you may be, but they always end up being right. People are amazing and if you tell your story and strive to make a difference, you will get all of the help that you need to reach your goals.
