To say this place is cool is a gross understatement. They have an amazing selection of architectural savage so if you are looking for doors or cast iron sinks and things like that, these guys have it and much more and prices are killer. I'm guessing that's their mainstay but what totally takes this place over the top is all the rest of the stuff they have. For a guy who loves crusty pieces with character that I can repurpose into something else, this is a goldmine. I found this place while in the area on business and one piece in particular caught my eye. A big old hand riveted tank. Sucker weights over 1000lbs. None of knew exactly what it was but that's just part of the fun right? Bought it on the spot after talking to the folks and owners who if you look up Uber Cool in the dictionary, their pics come up. They loaded that beast up and I drove 350 miles back to the KC area. Come to find out it's an old pressure tank that was made by Kewanee Boiler between 1905-1920. Now where can you find neat shit like that I ask you? Salvage Candy is where. I'm already planning a return visit as these folks rock and their selection and prices are to die for. Thanks Salvage Candy

The vibe is somewhat playful yet you get to experience what some would call a fine art class. There is a fun and professional break down of what it takes to create a nice portrait, yet they keep you in a child like state of learning as you go through fun and entertaining exercises that teach you to let go of the inner critic and embrace your inner artist. I had fun drawing with my non dominant hand, sketching without looking at what I was doing, and other fun and hilarious experiments like musical chairs where everyone gets to help finish everyone else's drawing. It went from being a little shy and awkward at first to everyone letting go and having fun. The giggling while sketching is not so much about the subject matter as it is about how you are training yourself to draw without expectation and enjoying the experience. I've never really drawn to dance music before, but it kept a high class party vibe going. I'm not goi g to complain about the very attractive and shirtless models that were there to assist me if I needed a sharpened pencil. I found myself bonding with strangers who became friends and class mates and I would say that this experience helped me to relax and to laugh and to get into my creative mind when I needed it most. I walked in super stressed out from the week, and left feeling excited about trying to draw more at home. I think this would be fun for anyone to try and they can come to your home! I would say it would be great at a birthday party or an office party or some kind of social gathering where you needed to break the ice and step out of your comfy zone. No experience required just an open mind and a positive attitude! The human form is beautiful and if you have any hang ups or shame issues I would say this is a great way to overcome them. By the end of the class the naked body became the subject matter and I had completely forgotten about the fact that they were naked. It made me think about how much I accept my own body and it was a very healthy activity to try. I would recommend this for anyone!
