A HORRIBLE and Unfortunate experience with SP. I have been a client of SP for almost three years. Initially, I chose their mobile service because of my unpredictable work schedule. Due to their uneducated ignorance, I should never have stayed that long. Although I consistently communicated my potential tardiness and tipped generously, their level of professionalism (if they had any) began to decline. The groomer often cut my Bichon Frise incorrectly and displayed irritability toward my feedback. My elderly dog fell ill on September 5, 2023, the day before his September 6 appointment, which was the tipping point. Upon canceling the appointment, SP demanded same-day vet documentation to avoid a cancellation fee. Although I promptly provided them with all the necessary proof (see below and note the Vets plan requiring 5-7 days of complete rest), they STILL charged me, so I disputed the charge. The SP made unfounded claims about multiple no-shows on my account in subsequent interactions, which I vehemently deny. I cited an Indiana code against unauthorized card charges, which they had done, and the owner decided to cut ties with us. This was likely due to my citing an Indiana code against unauthorized card charges, for which they had done. SP's lack of concern and understanding was highly disappointing but considering the low level of intellect, it was no surprise. I have had this collar on my dog for a year and the company claims the collars are a soft supple material. That is not true. Our dog collar is like steel. It is so hard that we had to take it off our dog and find another collar. They offer a 30 day warranty. I would never buy from this company again nor support it. The groomer "Sydne F." called me 20 minutes into grooming and stated "I am putting up your dog up and you need to come get her now" Asked to speak with a Manager and she said there was not one available and I could talk with someone when I picked up my dog. I informed her, no - someone needs to contact me back and asked how much of the service had been completed. She would not tell me and not confirm a call back. When I got back to pick up my dog they charged me $30 and refused to show me the dog so that I could see her condition before I made partial payment. I asked what was the full charge, they said $60. I informed Sydne she would need to show me what had been done that warranted them charging me at all for incomplete services. I even said, you can show me thru the glass viewing window. We just moved to Valparaiso a month or so ago, and needed a groomer for my Aussies. After all the bad reviews, i was very hesitant to take my dogs here, but I went in and spoke with one of the groomers, explained one of my dogs is a very shy dog who was a victim of abuse. He also has hip and leg issues as he was hurt badly as a puppy. She seemed sympathetic and agreed to take good care of him. I dropped my dogs off as scheduled, and they notified me when they were ready to be picked up. I thought my previous groomer was good, but there were always a couple mats around their necks that were always left. I was pleasantly surprised to find the groomer, Lauren Griffith, had followed my instructions to the letter as far as any trimming, and the dogs were exceptionally well groomed, happy and excited. Lauren told me she had given my Aussie with the bad hips a couple breaks so as not to stress him out, and I thought this was a very caring approach, and above and beyond. Thanks, Lauren!!! read more

I've used Smoochie Pooch mobile for a few years. They cut my dogs ear once. I also received a bad haircut with strangling hairs in his paws. I never complained because I'm an easy going person and I know how to give grace when mistakes happen. They would even call ME to set up appointments when they apparently needed business and I would always schedule when they called. This week I had an emergency and needed to cancel my appointment. I called first thing Monday, since their store is open Monday-Friday. (The hours are on their main website.) The man who answered was extremely hostile about canceling the same day, even though they were closed Sunday. I had a long standing relationship with the company and never done this before. He said I needed to leave a message on Sunday...as if that would have made a difference. It is not like I cost them business for rescheduling. The angry man threatened that he would charge my card on file anyway, which I told him he did not have permission to do so. I ended the call, and was charged in full for the appointment, without receiving the haircut, without an appointment on the books. Smoochie Pooch stole from me. This is how they treat long standing, loyal customers. With no grace or respect. Never in my life have I been spoken to with such hostility by a business. I just picked up my two Scottish Terriers from Smoochie Pooch in Valpo. Didn't really pay much attention but when we got home we noticed that neither of their tails had been trimmed. Wasn't exactly happy with that but I am absolutely livid right now at the fact that we also just noticed my older Scottie's left ear is cut and bleeding. This is not a great place for rescues. They do not offer fear free grooming and just tell you it's "not their problem" and that your dog is badly behaved. First issue we've had. Also told us our dog has a double coat, which we've never heard before. Instead of educating us they made us feel bad for not knowing this. I used to love Smoochie Pooch but their service has declined recently. A few months ago, Amanda groomed my dog. He looked fine, we paid and Amanda left. A few minutes later, my mother noticed my dog's nail was bleeding. I understand things happen but to not even mention cutting the nail too short and causing bleeding is unacceptable. So both I and my mother called the company. They apologized and told us to put corn starch on his nail. That was fine. Fast forward a couple of weeks and I call to get him rescheduled. I tell them I would take any groomer BUT Amanda since she didn't tell us about the nail. They told me that Amanda doesn't work for them anymore. So then they tell me they will schedule me with Kimberlee for 3/22 and I confirm that appointment. Today, they leave me a message to tell me they have to reschedule Guapo's appointment because Amanda is having issues with her van. I call them immediately and said that my dog was supposed to be scheduled with anyone BUT Amanda and I had been told she no longer works there and that I was told he was scheduled with Kimberlee. They apologize and say there must have been some miscommunication. They say they can reschedule Guapo with Kimberlee but not until April 19th. I told them forget about it, I will take him elsewhere. First you cut my dogs nail too short (understandable) then you dont tell us (unacceptable), then you tell me that employee is no longer there and that you scheduled me with someone else, then I find out you lied, she's still working there, and you scheduled my dog with her, oh and we can reschedule him with someone else a month out! My Dogs have gone to this franchise for over a year. Never missed an appointment and if needed the appointments were canceled. My Spouse misunderstood the confirmation text and was under the impression by not confirming the appointment would not be standing. The owner made the decision to charge a no show fee. Which is understandable. However a full fee of $116.00 was charged although no services were rendered. Not only did they charge they assumed the services we were getting for the dogs. In every case when we arrive to the grooming they ask "what service are you getting today?"... So how are you charging for services that was not confirmed. ​ PLEASE NOTE: If you use your card on-site they save the card information without your permission. ALSO.. Don't agree to another appointment in the future without getting a confirmation what they have your dogs scheduled for. My hope is each store is individually owned. Smoochie Pooch! What a great experience!!! I have 2 dogs and getting them groomed has always been a big issues. We would have to drop them off at the groomer at 8:00 am and they would not get back until the evening. In addition the stress of getting groomed, they were stuck in cages all day. That is not something these two are use to, they have never been caged. The mobile groomer is the perfect solution to this problem, not only do they come to you, but the complete grooming only takes about an hour. The dog's are much less stressed and the cost is very reasonable for a mobile groomer. Our groomer Tina is wonderful!!! She has a natural, calm and pleasant demeanor that made our two dogs immediately comfortable with her. It is clear that Tina loves animals and she did an outstanding job!!! The first time I went there they charged me $40 more then quoted on the phone. Saying my one dog has poodle hair--he barely has a curl. They charge me $88 a dog - one 45lbs and one 65 lbs. 2nd time going no problem. I didn't want to go somewhere else with having to prove vaccs and all that for three dogs and get it switched over. Well then this past time - 2 weeks ago... I bring my two big dogs in. It's covid 19 time- they don't tell you on the phone but they lock the door in Valpo location. I has to bang for 5 min for them to let me in. Then I come to pick my dogs up, bang again, nothing then have to go to window to get a girls attention to let me in. Check out. Leave a tip. Get in the car and my dogs smell like straigh pee. Now they told me 3.5-4 hours and we're done in 2.5. I have to work they call 3x I'm in sessions with patients and I don't know where the kept them but it was so smelly. My dogs should not smell like pee for $100 each after getting them groomed. NEVER. I try to go back in the location and complain and they NEVER come to the door... I knocked, knocked, and knocked. I call and of course the call goes to the crown point location and they "have to call me back." Did I get a call back? Never. I had to go bath my dogs myself after paying $200 for them to be groomed and I will never go back again. Was fired today, randomly. Was told I "Keep making the same mistakes." Whereas I had one day of training. On a day they weren't even open. ONE DAY. I was not made aware of this and the owner's son was too busy worried about opening another location, making more money than to focus on my training. What a great company that cares about their employees. (Insert sarcasm.) I thought I was actually doing a decent job. Especially, because I was lead to believe that it was a "trial by error type of job." I did not use this as a crutch, like the owners thought. And I was not made aware of my mistakes that I had apparently made. They accused me of blaming the groomers, when I NICELY let one keep scheduling under my name, because, again the owner's son was too busy opening a location, being money hungry to pay attention to his employees. I don't normally smear businesses and write long reviews but I DO want to save anyone from even wasting their breath on this company. Family owned, yes. But if they don't like you, even thought they lead you to believe that they do, they will fire you, no reason. It's completely messed up. Mobile groomer Tina was amazing with my first groom for my Schnauzer. I set up every 6 week appts for an entire year with her as the other place I had Dunkel groomed was horrible. I had to cancel 2 grooming appointments due to unforeseen circumstances as one I went to KY to see my Aunt because she was just diagnosed with cancer and family stated please come see her sooner than later and then she passed away and I had a funeral. I received a text message this past week for Dunkels next groom and called Bret personally at the office to find out if the office was open and if Dunkels groom was going to happen on April 24th. Mind you I made this call from work at the hospital with 2 co workers sitting at the desk beside me. Today the groomer doesn't show up so I call the office Bre states your next appt isn't until June 6th. No, I have standing 6 weeks appt, I called this week to confirm. I apologized to her because I'm crying and upset and realize that it isn't her fault. She states she is on the other phone with Bret and he is going to call me personally. Wait wait wait. No phone call. Call back to see if he is going to call me today, tomorrow next week and she states she will text him and tell him. He finally calls me and states he has been trying to call me and my phone is busy. Lie #1 then he proceeds to tell me that he cancelled my appt yesterday as I never confirmed and he has customers that need appointments. He goes on to tell me that I have only had Dunkel groomed once and cancelled my last two appointments.,I only called to see if the office was open and never confirmed via text this weeks appt. why would I text when I verbally called Lie #2. While I realize with the pandemic things have been crappy instead of calling your customer a liar, own up to your mistake and offer a solution. I'm sure the workers are doing there best but I don't want to use services from someone who lies, makes mistakes and does not offer quality services to their customers. In the middle of winter, very clearly told the groomer to not cut too short. When came to pick up dog, was completely shaved! The groomer said dog was matted, and that was why. I went to get my dog groomed because it was recommended for me. I don't know how anybody can put their pets through that shop. Every single time my dog did not want to go in and was very excited to get out. They said to me every single time I took my dog there that there was something wrong with her that she was mean and she was not following directions I understand dogs can get jumpy while you're cutting them. but when I went to go pick up my dog there was blood everywhere on her paws after we left and it wouldn't stop bleeding so we took her to the vet and now she has a cast on her paw for the SECOND TIME! Took my 60 lb Doodle for a groom as our regular groomer was booked. She was admittedly a little matted, but nothing our regular groomer couldn't handle. The groomer called me and said her ears were matted and she would need to trim them - no problem- I picked her up and her ears were SHEARED like a lamb. Now, I will take some fault as I guess all calls are recorded (like the CIA) and I guess the groomer did say shave when she called (again like the CIA - does that say something about ownership trusting their employees)- in my defense, never in my experience has our groomer EVER had to shave our dog's ear. When they brought her out I tried to hide my dissatisfaction- and loved on my dog and said how cute she was. I was taught to be polite so I paid the $91 (yes - $91) Again, I should have said something at that moment, but I didn't. When my husband saw her later and I explained the situation he was livid. These groomers are inept at best if they can't get a mat out of a doodle. We did get a halfhearted apology, but that doesn't fix the hack job she did on my dog. If I could give zero stars I would. Then we arranged for her to come at a designated time because the person who she likes would be there and the groomer came early. Again, epic fail! They just called me to tell me they will be charging a senior citizen a fee for no service! The owner was rude and disrespectful! Never ever again! I used the mobile grooming service and had no problems. In fact, I love my groomer Tina. However, I do not recommend going into the Portage store. I was contacted last week and the owner told me that the grooming services were opening back up after the stay at home. I asked for an appointment for mobile grooming and she said they were already scheduled until the end of May, 2020. I then asked for an appointment in a salon and said I would drive mine in this time. She gave me a confirmed date and time - told me it was curbside service and explained how to pay, etc. Well, I got to the salon with my two dogs 5 minutes early - no curbside pickup - I had to walk in to get service. I waited while someone was on the phone and she totally ignored me. When she got off the phone, she checked the appointment book and said I was not in the schedule. She started asking me who I spoke to, etc and acted like I was a walk-in (really? how would I know you were open and what time to come in, curbside, etc). I left and said I would not come back to the salon for the mobile grooming either. A very crappy way to treat a customer that been with you for at least a year and that pays for mobile grooming - about $150 every other month for two dogs. Do not go here. I had let smooch pooch groom my 2 bichons for years. In that time many groomers came and went. There were many red flags. Our pets were "accidentally" not completely groomed, nails not cut or ears not cleaned or trimmed or worse they were cut on their tails or elsewhere. Any complaints to the owner were brushed off. We lost our 2 beautiful bichons. One in January of 2020 and our other Bichon 2 months ago. Each time I called the business and told the owner that my dog had passed and we would no longer need their services. His response was oh sorry. They continued to send appointment times and even after we again told them our Bichon was deceased, sent a groomer to our home. The same thing has happened when our beloved Bichon died almost 2 month ago. They continued sending appointment reminders, events, etc to us. Again I called the owner and told him that our dogs were deceased and to stop sending us texts. This morning one of their groomers arrived at our door to groom our deceased dogs. Their response was, sorry for the inconvenience. Really after years of supporting their business? Customers beware. This owner does not care about you or your pet. read more

I took my dog there at nice. The groom was fine. I scheduled a second groom appt. The morning of my appointment I had to take my mom to the emergency room because she couldn't breathe. They left a voicemail that I missed my appointment. That afternoon I called and apologized and explained that I had been at the hospital er all day with my mom and would call back to reschedule. I messaged them this morning to request an appointment. The girl at the Crown Point salon called me to tell me that if I wanted to continue doing business with them, I would have to pay $52 for the appointment I missed before they would schedule me. I explained this to her and she said she was sorry but I would still have to pay. I can understand that I took a spot that someone else could have used and paid for but I didn't know that my mother would have to be rushed to the er that day. If I didn't show because I just forgot or didn't feel like showing, that is one thing.
