Best BBQ in town period. Everything is made from scratch every day including the homemade BBQ sauces and sides.

YUM!!! I had Pit and Pastry for lunch today and it was fantastic. Amazing deal, huge portions and…read moreeven bigger flavor. By FAR the best BBQ around - significantly better than anything I've had in the cville area. As far as I know, they are at the cville city market every Saturday, so you'll have to be ok grabbing and going or eating outside at one of the standing tables. The portion sizes are MASSIVE! We got a platter which comes with a choice of either shredded chicken or pork (or you can split 50/50 like we did) with two sides (Mac and cheese, pesto potatos, cucumber salad) and a cookie (hence, the "pastry"). They had samplers of the meat and I tried the pork and knew I was going to love it. I was shocked at how much food it was - the platter itself was $15 with tax and tip it came out to about $18. The platter fed two HUNGRY adults and there was leftovers!! We were shocked at how much food it was. The meat was perfectly done, tender juicy and smoky. Super flavorful. The Mac and cheese wasn't my favorite, it's baked - don't get me wrong, for a baked Mac and cheese this one is actually really good, but it has the same issue most baked macs do - once it sits for awhile, it becomes pasta in grease with cheese on top. It was fine, more flavorful than others I've had around here, but could use a little more sauce. The pesto potatos were AMAZING. Literally so good. The people that work here are super nice and know what they're doing. They grill the meat in front of you too so it smells amazing. Already looking forward to being back. Do yourself a favor and stop by their stall at the cville city market on Saturdays. You won't be disappointed!!

They are some of the friendly people you could ever meet and their service is top notch. I could not recommend them more!

I always loved to go to Charlottesville City Market when I lived in Charlottesville, and come back…read moreall the way from D.C. every once in a while specifically for a few businesses. One that I want to highlight and isn't on Yelp by itself unfortunately is Sweet Jane's Kitchen Maryland Style Crab Cakes. They don't have a brick and mortar but she is always there every Saturday the Market is open from 9am-1pm. Since moving from FL I have never had a single good crab cake in all of VA...UNTIL I tried Jane's crab cakes. They are all of what a good crab cake has to offer: A large thick patty mostly consisting of super fresh crab and garnished with delicious spices and only small amount of filler. Their homemade sauce is perfectly zesty and pairs well with the crab cake and bun; I always get extra. To top it off the owner is always very kind and runs it with her family. Other than this one there is a flower shop that carries my favorite celosia flowers and my favorite caromont farm goat cheese. They have a wonderful variety of other unique shops and delicious food vendors to try. I highly recommend Jane's crabcakes and the Charlottesville City Market in general, so much that I am willing to travel almost 2 hours to get there. Honestly the best green market I've been to in VA.

It's dog friendly so we recently brought our pup. Just be aware this is a busy market with lots of dogs in general, which did get overwhelming for her after a bit. One of my favorite weekend stops!

Server (Brianna) started out good, fairly attentive until I got my food. After I got my food I got one cursory "all good?" and that was it until I got the bill. Anyway, on to the food: ordered two meat plate (brisket and pulled pork) with fries and coles slaw. Fries were the highlight of the meal. Hot, crispy, seasoned...awesome. Cole slaw was good....but it was super tangy (vinegary) for my taste. Don't get it wrong, it was good, just hard to eat all of it thanks to the tang. On to the meat. Got a pretty good sized pile of pulled pork and a couple slices of brisket. Both meats were lukewarm at best. Pork was dry (thank goodness for the NC vinegar sauce). The brisket made up for the porks dryness, it was extra greasy and extra fatty. Like, for real, do you think people are going to eat the fat layer between the lean point meat and the fatty upper meat? Yeah, not me. But since the brisket was also lukewarm (more like lukecold) it really didn't make a difference. I did think the Vision BBQ sauce tasted pretty good. If Brianna would have come back by after I got my meal I would have sent it back....and probably would have just left without worrying over a replacement, or a comp, or anything. Secondary issue: went to the mens room. It was just nasty. You get once shot to make an impression, and this one was not good. Would not/will not repeat.
