If you want heavy weights, hardcore workouts, loud blaring music, lots of screaming and grunting,…read morePlanet Fitness is not the place for you. Nor does it necessarily want you. It doesn't cater to you. If you want simple cardio workouts with a lot of machines, some weights and strength training that doesn't get too heavy and a neat atmosphere, this is your place. It's cheap and caters to a more beginner's gym and mindset and that is the way it comes off in it's mission and purpose. It's "Judgement Free" zone slogan is hypocritical BS. With a 'lunk alarm' and a desire to have no 'lunks' that is totally judgemenetal and critical. So, that is a bit of hypocrisy. Hey, you might not want muscle bound, hardcore weight lifters and body builders, but if you you're going to want to be a 'judgement free' zone, you're going to need to not 'judge them.' Except for what seems to be a hypocritical farce of an attitude, for the most part, this gym delivers for newbies. It's $10/month with a simple commitment. $15/month if you want to be free from commitment and like $21/month for their plan that includes being able to workout at other Planet Fitnesses and use their massage chairs and what nots. I don't know, I go to the gym for cardio and to walk in place so when I get tired I just have to walk to my car when done. I know, right? I'm fat and lazy, but I'm slowly losing weight. This gym is good, if you're looking for these qualities. With the exception of their 'judgement free' zone, they do deliver on what they promise for the most part. They don't promise a lot though, so for the price, they're an ideal first gym or somewhere to go if you don't want to (or cannot) keep exercise machines in your home. The price is right in that regard. If you want a gym that caters to body building, have lots of classes to choose from, need a pool, there are better more expensive gyms around. But for what it offers and claims to offer, Planet Fitness is great and delivers.

I actually like the gym atmosphere but the district manager Amani, has some agenda to eliminate members and certain staff members. She has cancelled my membership twice now for incidences that are unfounded while ignoring my complaint that a underage female was in the men's locker room or that one of her employees hit the speed up buttons on the treadmill I was using. For reference I'm recovering from open heart and a spinal fusion surgeries that have made stability an issue at certain speeds of activity. The last incident a staff member asked why I was walking hunched over and looking in pain. I told her about the sciatic pain shooting down my legs and how excruciating it was. I did point out where the location was and that was my fault but you have to look at intent and circumstances of each situation. Even if there was wrong doing isn't there a warning or protocol steps like a talking to? To cancel my membership and ban me from all three Tri Cities locations seems excessive and punitive for a misunderstanding for a business built on no judgement. I've reached out to them a couple times to get a dialog going and no one from the company or HR has responded in any way.

The trainers are wonderful (I have mostly taken classes with Curtis, and he's really excellent!), the community of athletes is welcoming and supportive, the gym is immaculate, and the workouts are always challenging and never dull. I had never done CrossFit before coming here, and I was initially a little bit nervous. I thought it was mostly an activity for jocks who don't mind injuring themselves. Fortunately, my preconceptions did not apply at all to RMX! Curtis is really conscientious about getting us warmed up and ready for the workout every day, and emphasizes good form and injury prevention. We always practice key movements before the workout starts, and Curtis will check on you and help you perfect the movements as the workout progresses. That said, these are not easy workouts -- the jocks can certainly enjoy themselves here alongside the beginners! RMX is a wonderful gym, and I will be going back as often as I can. I have learned a lot about weightlifting, jumping rope, and managing my energy during long sets -- and I am already a little stronger than I was when I started. I can't recommend this gym highly enough!

For a beginner like myself, everything is demonstrated before workouts and weightlifting moves are incorporated into sequences over time. This helps people like me become familiar with steps and less likely to become injured by inexperience. There is certainly a semi-competitive element to the classes but it does not embody the culture whatsoever. If I see weights or times posted against others I can remember who might be a good workout partner or who will push me to the next level when we do that exercise again. The experts are always willing to give tips and cheer you on as you work. The owners are great people that love working out and enjoy your successes as much as their own. Give this place a try! They usually have saturday "all-comer" group sessions you can check out for cheap!
