DONT GO HERE based on older reviews. Those reviews were on the original owner of the business. The business was recently sold and the NEW owner will not honor the warranty I was given on a brand new transmission I purchased and had installed by them 13 months ago. The warranty was for 24 months/or 24,000 miles. It's been 13 months & I drove 10,000 miles since then. Great way to run your business. Community be aware! You don't see my name in your computer because my truck was brought in through a local service shop who sent Augi a lot of business. The invoice and warranty is under his business name and he has been dealing directly with your employees over the last 2 weeks regarding my truck. Brought my car here to get some spark plugs and brakes replaced and also get my state inspection done. Very friendly staff. I waited inside while the work was done. This is not a BMW dealership with fancy coffee machines. It's grungy and without thrills but reminds me of my grandfather's garage. You'll see tons of car parts everywhere in the lobby, and you know what? I liked it. I felt like I was getting the authentic car repair experience. Yes you serviced my vehicle but your tech also told me that it was guaranteed if I did not have my transmission taken out and repaired it would not last through the year. The fact that this was not documented is disappointing and goes to show there's something wrong with that recommendation. I remember it clearly because he had brought the issue up to you and you had personally greeted me in the waiting area. I bring this up now because when I drive that car, I still remember what your tech told me and it still annoys me that this simple issue almost ended up costing me several thousand dollars. read more

I have been involved with car repairs since I was a kid. I have seen dishonest mechanics charge owners for hvac fans when it was a blown fuse/bad plug, terrible R&Rs destroy a car, exaggeration of a job's difficulty, serious overcharging 8 hours of work for a 1.5 hour job and slam bang mechanics destroy stuff and incompetent work. For the most part auto mechanics are not trustworthy. Then comes their attitudes, egos and chip on their shoulders were they think the customer is an idiot. I have rebuilt engines, transmissions, worked as a mechanic at SunShipbuilding and Drydock where we built the Howard Hughes Glomar Explorer and LNG tankers. I am a moderator of a Cadillac forum and help owners around the world diagnose problems on their Cadillacs. Finding competency and honesty in the auto repair segment is very difficult. My car is now a 2013 Ford Focus which I purchased Brand new in 2013. This past winter I was coming around a turn being careful to go slow in the snow to maintain control of the car. Well as slow as I was going it was not slow enough because my rear end slid anyway smacking into the curb with the rear right tire. Ever since then I had a fairly loud noise coming from the back end of the car that was very annoying. I assumed I damaged the bearings which proved to be correct. I brought the car to Augie's Garage & Smithtown Transmissions for the repair. Augie asked me to bring the car in early and I planned on dropping it off with my girlfriend, and then she would drop me off at my office. As it turned out she was up very late the night before with a sick relative so I did not want to bother her too early in the morning. I decided to wait for the car, I could work on my job with my laptop in the waiting room at Augies. I arrived at 8:00. Augie told me he was expecting me to drop the car off, he had not intended on me waiting for the car because it was going to take a while just to get the part. I told him I did not care how long it took because I could get my work done right in his waiting room. What ended up happening was this. He could get the part from his regular part guy but it would not be there until around 2 or 3:00 in the afternoon. So Augie jumped through a few hoops to track down a dealer to get the parts and sent one of his guys to pick it up. All so I would not have to wait all day. And he got the part at a considerably better price than it was originally. This was an expensive part. From the dealer it was about $180, from his regular guy, in this case, the part was like $240. He had me out of there by 10:00 on the dot (after 2 most excellent cups of his complimentary coffee). I was delighted with the car and his price for the entire repair was very reasonable. My car is quiet as a mouse again, other that the fairly decent throaty sound of the motor. And right now I'm in my office, typing this review. It's 11:10 in the morning. I wanted to do this and made sure I did it right away as not to procrastinate getting this review done. Thank you Augie again, for coming through for me again big time. read more

Tried them several times for assorted repairs. Couldn't handle it. Had my truck for 2 days to get 1 tire that they could not do. Literally took it across the street to Mavis, got the Tire that day. Wasted my time. Felt I've bcharged and underrepresented. Took my business elsewhere. UPDATE:Auggies reply about the tire . He claims he could have got the tire in 10 minutes. WELL HE DIDNT! When I went to Mavis after not getting my tire in 2 days, the man from Mavis said"Weren't you at auggies? He called me for this tire. " I also feel he is implying I never did business with him because he could find my name. read more

I came in with what could have been a vehicle life-ender..... A tranny hose leaking problem on a 17 tear old car built by a manufacturer that was loooong out of business. After pursuing the job with other local shops (no one could find the required cooling hose+ required), Augie's said that they'd build one for me. I had the car dropped off on a Saturday morning and didn't expect it back for a couple of days minimum. I ended up getting the car back within hours and at a reasonable price. They even stayed open a little late while I found my way up there to pick up the car. That said, I am still having some relatively minor tranny issues but they aren't related to the hose replacement. I called Augie's again and they're going to give the new 'issue' another look. Time will tell but for what it's worth, I trust this garage. Assuming everything stays the same I intend on using them for other repairs as well. BTW, Richie is the quarterback. He's a straight talker. Good man. read more

I've been an ongoing customer at Augie's for nearly 10 years now, and they always do fantastic work for me. I have a 2005 Saturn Vue, and admittedly, I am not the best at remembering to take constant care of it. But Augie himself, and the people who work there, always make my car feel good as new every time I'm in there. I do not know much about car mechanics, so it can be overwhelming to find a new mechanic or repair shop. Because this is our only car, I can't simply drop it off and come back later. Augie invites me to sit and wait in their sitting room while work is done. This has given me the opportunity to witness firsthand how he and his staff treat not only me, but every single person who walks in or calls on the phone. And I'm always highly impressed at their commitment to service, and fostering trusting relationships with their customers. I'm rarely impressed with someone's knowledge of their field or craft. I expect them to be knowledgeable. What impresses me is their ability to convey that knowledge to a lay person like me. Everyone I deal with at Augie's takes the time to explain what needs to be done on my car, and why. Before doing any work, they always go over a list of their recommendations, with clear explanations as to why I need these things done. They did not replace coolant in my car after replacing hose and thermostat, overheaded on the way home, also price gouger charged me $50.00 for a thermostat part the same one could have been purchases at retail for $10.00 and charged two hours labor at $110.00 rate to change a hose and thermostat. they will never see any on my money again. read more

I met Augie 3 years ago at our Sons school. He mentioned he owned a service station in Smithtown should I ever need anything. I was new to the area at the time but explained to him I have been going to the same place in Syosset for over 20 years. The other day I was in need of an emergency fix of my front breaks. I didn't think my vehicle would make it to Syosset. I called Augie and he said bring it right in and had one of his guys bring me home. He kept the car overnight and looked at it the next day. He diagnosed the problem but understood my loyalty to my other mechanic and said I would be able to make it to Syosset should I want the other mechanic to do the work. He totally understood my loyalty to the other mechanic and didn't charge me a dime for the diagnostic. I did have him do a LOF while my car was there. He and his crew are extremely friendly and honest. This could have gone in a completely different direction but I'm glad it didn't. I would highly recommend this service station. read more

My 2009 Toyota Prius was giving me some problems and I was sick and tired of paying the dealer for repairs which once out of warranty were costing me a fortune. Augie was terrific all the way around. Just moved to the area recently and was having transmission issues with my Dodge Dakota. Passed by this place and decided to give them a try. Augie was very knowledgeable he knew exactly what was wrong and got back to me with in a few hours. The turn around time was great for a rebuild especially since I needed this truck to get back and forth to work. One word for the one star; Horrified. I know others who both have had the same experience. My complaint is mainly with the manager, Richard. He abuses and talks back rather aggressively. I have never seen that type of behavior in any business. When I did ask to speak with the owner, this individual gave me excuses why Augie was not available. I wonder if the owner really knows what is going on there? All in all it was a miserable experience, and I will never go back, I suggest others be very cautious when dealing with this person. He seems a bit shady, and I would not be surprised at all if he did not do the work, but still charged me for it. read more

To give this business one star is not accurate. it deserves no stars/ Horrible business.We brought our car there because we were told we had some transmission issue by a mechanic. He had run a diagnostic and gave us a code. We decide to go to Augies because he was local and he specialized in transmissions. . My husband gave the mechanic a code and said that it did not mean anything. Here is where the problems began Augie left a message they were getting to car late but would let us know. the next call was that he was up to $450 dollars in charge.He took it upon himself to do 8 hours of diagnostics to "see what the problem was" We certainly did not expect to pay nothing BUT we certainly never authorized 8 hours of "so called" diagnostics. I mean after 1 ,2 or even 3 hours don't you think a call to the consumer would be the right thing to do.and let US make the decision to move forward or not. This was a 2006 van that was giving us some problems and were unsure if it was worth putting a lot of work into. We would have like the choice to decide . WE WERE NEVER EVER TOLD UPFRONT about any diagnostic fees and /or investigation .In all the 30 plus years I have owned a car, I have never had a auto shop charge so much without calling me first. SICKENING. Unfortunately we had to pay his bill or he was then going to charge us storage fess and would not release the car. We offered to meet him half way with our bill but he still refused. Got nasty and loud and extremely disrespectful to me and my husband even tried to talk to him again and absolutely refused to come to an agreement. After all that he actually said he could fix the car. UNBELIEVABLE. Obviously just wanted to make money BUYER BEWARE.we left with a very expensive bill and a car in the exact same condition we brought it in. no repairs ever done and a very valuable lesson. ALWAYS ASK FIRST IF THERE WILL BE ANY SERVICE DIAGNOSTIC FEES BEFORE WORK STARTS. He should be ashamed of the way he speaks to women as well as being a business owner. read more

I've been a customer of Augie's for 22 years now. I keep coming back because he's been honest and conscientious for all of those 22 years. I will continue to be his customer for as long as I live in the Smithtown area. Augie's perspective is to assure that all aspects of car care are covered. With this approach my cars have the greatest probability of remaining trouble free on the road year after year. My '08 Honda Accord and '05 Jeep Cherokee are both in perfect running condition thanks to Augie and Augie only. I follow the maintenance program recommended by Augie and because of that have never had to pay for major engine or transmission work. Could I go to a mechanic right next to my work location (in Hicksville)? Yes, I could but I won't. I know that when I go to Augie the job will be done properly. Augie has a good staff as well.
