It's rare that I find a business where the staff truly does want the best possible outcome for the customer. I've been newly introduced to this company and I was really glad what I experienced. I think a lot of people who have poor experiences was from a couple years ago and a lot may have changed. I also find that people may fault a local business for what a warranty or third party may be the original source of frustration. Give Smith's a try yourself before coming to a decision. Absolutely the worst dealings ever. I ordered an awning for my 5th wheel 2 months in advance of our trip and they lost it twice, when one finally came in not all the parts came with it. Now I had my 5th wheel brought down there and they could care less. Didn't even call to say it didn't come with all the parts. Crap service, had three women sitting around that wouldn't give my wife the time of day, guess there crap jobs had more important things to talk about. I was looking at trading mine in and I will never even look at them ever again. DON'T go there for anything...they don't care at all about the customer.. wish there was a less than one. Wow, terrible service and 2x the cost from one year to the next for shrink wrap and winterizing a boat that I bought at Smith's. Service woman couldn't tell me how the costs were broken down. Refused to give me a copy of the specifics of what I was paying for. My boat sat uncovered outside for over a week while they waited for spark Plugs. They never called, I happened to be driving by. They set the boat for pick up in a puddle, all other areas of the lot were dry. Shame on you all Smith's. read more

I had a written quote and parts needed to install a trailer hitch and wiring for my truck in the amount of $850 in November. I told him I would be back early in the spring to have installed. In March called to make an appointment, gave them the information that was quoted to me with part numbers, now the price was $2100. Asked why the $1300 difference and he said that is what it is and could not provide and explanation. Basically said too bad. Poor customer service, don't even go there. read more

Great local business that has been helping people camp and fish for years in Northern Ontario

The story of our boat. This spring we went to Smith's RV and purchased a brand spanking new Smokercraft boat w a 130hp evenrude etech motor. We bought a few accessories too including a brand new Minncota trolling motor. We have been less than spectacularly happy w what has happened since. Our first trip out on the boat, the alarm on the boat started going off, the motor started to smoke and then stopped. The waves near secret beach pushed us into the sand. We managed to get the motor going again and limped back to the dock. We haul the boat back to Smiths RV and left it there for them to fix as you would think it would be covered under warranty. The following week we drive back to town to retrieve the boat and the service manager gives me a bill for just a little over $400.00, telling us that the problem was that there was sand that had gotten sucked up into the motor. We argue that the sand likely got into the motor after it had quit, thus pushing us into the sand. I also said, luckily we were not far away from the dock when this happened and we were able to make it back, not pushed into a rocky shore or otherwise stranded on an unpredictable Lake Superior. The general manager came into play when Andrew stated that we would not be paying the bill. The bill was waived by the manager as a "token of good will". So no bill. Good stuff. A few weeks later we are out at Rossport and our trolling motor quits working. We are unsure why. This time we just have to haul the trolling motor back to Thunder Bay and it goes to S&R electrical under warranty for what turns out to be a motherboard problem. We leave it to be fixed and retrieve it about a week later. Getting the trolling motor back we try it out on Lake Superior. Fail. Doesn't work at all. Back to S&R electrical we go. Turns out its the motherboard again. This time the part must be ordered and it takes about 3 weeks before we are able to retrieve it. During this three weeks we are still able to use the boat and the regular motor so Andrew takes his teenage son out on Lake Superior to do some fishing. Its a bit wavy this day but not crazy. The fog rolls in though so they decide to head back to shore. The speedometer stops working and the boat begins to take on water. The faster they drive in the boat the more water comes on board. The lake gets a bit foggier and they limp back into shore. The boat must be hauled back to Smiths to see what the problem is. Turns out a little hose that feeds water through the speedometer was disconnected and bringing in water rather than feeding back into the lake. Problem fixed. We head back to town to retrieve the boat. The trolling motor isnt ready yet. We get the boat back to Terrace and decide to take it for a spin. Everything seems to be running fine. We go for supper and when we pull back into the driveway I hear a noise coming from the boat. Turns out, the bilge pump wont shut off. We troubleshoot it from the manual, snake it, try some draino, nothing seems to make it shut off. Its plugged. Back to Smiths with the boat we go. Turns out, at the manufacturer, the spray in insulation had caused the bilge piping to be squished, and therefore leading to the problem. The floor of the boat is ripped out, bilge pump and piping replaced and the floor is replaced. We ask Smith's RV to check the electrical of the boat to make sure that it's wired correctly, thinking that an error may be causing the motherboard of the trolling motor to quit. They do and they tell us everything looks fine. We get the trolling motor back a couple weeks ago and it still does not work. We haul it back to Smith's who tell us over the phone they are just going to give us a new one. Yeah!! I get to Smith's. I'm not getting a new one, it has to be fixed under warranty. It goes to S&R. S&R phone a few days later and tell us the motor appears to be fine, they didn't do anything to it and that we can pick it up whenever we want. We pick it up and it still does not work. We got a call from Smiths RV saying that the electrical on the boat may be wired incorrectly and that if we want to try fixing it ourselves they will send us a diagram of what to do. Not crazy about fixing electrical stuff period, not to mention on the boat, Andrew takes the boat up to our mechanic who tells us to just bring it back to Smith's RV and have them do it as he too is unsure of what to do in this case. Keep in mind here 4 months have gone by and we still do not have a trolling motor that works properly and we live in Terrace Bay, 214km away from Smith's RV. Smith's RV maintains that they are providing good service. Although no compensation for fuel or our travels has ever been mentioned, they did give us 20% off a tube and a wakeboard and once opened their gate up at 10pm so we can drop the boat off after I got off work. Also know that Andrew is a very experience boater, having had excessive marine training with his job and years and years of experience operating his own boat. read more

Please do not buy a thing from this place. Customer service SUCKS!!! spent 34,000.00 in the last 4 months and still waiting for repairs.
