We hired Casey and his team and on May 26,26 I gave him $11,000 cash to start my screened room. They came out and got as far as the deck built when we noticed a lot of issues with the quality of work. The deck was like an ocean, it was completely wavy. I asked Casey to put the new deck at the same level as the old deck. They did not. The put it up quite a bit higher. So when it came to the roof there were issues. Casey wanted to do a lean to style roof which would only give us only 7 foot high roof. We have family members who are very tall. Plus I had a chandelier and ceiling fan which Casey was told about when he originally quoted the job. His workers told me 3 days in a row that Casey would be coming out to look and see what we needed to do to fix it. I get a text from Casey saying that he would be willing to give me the cash he has left from my down payment. Which he said was $3200 and we go our separate ways. I tell him I would rather they fix their mess so I can get what I paid for! So I finally get him to come out. He looks at the deck admitted it wasn't right. He tells me that he fired 2 of the workers who did the deck. Stood in front of us, looked us in the eye and promised he would personally come out and tear it down and rebuild it the correct way. But we would have to wait almost a month for him to get done on another job and go on vacation. So we agreed. He was supposed to be there July 13th to get started on tearing it down. I get a text July 11th that his truck is broke down so they won't be there until July 15th. Then on July 15th I'm told Casey is in the hospital and so they won't be coming until the 20th. Which I truly understand that things come up. But we weren't a priority at all.
They do show up on the 20th. However Casey just drops them off. He doesn't stay. One of the guys he claims that he fired is in charge of the tear down. My husband and I just assumed that Casey wouldn't be involved in the tear down but he would show up when they got to the point of starting the rebuild. They get the deck torn down, with several boards splitting in the process. Without Casey the 3 workers get the frame dropped to where it was supposed to be. Lead man tells me that the frame is done and the next day they will install the boards. We go and take a look after they leave and the frame is not right. It's bowed in the center and on one side.
At this point we are 2 month into a job that was supposed to take 3 weeks. So I call Casey and tell him that we wanted to get the money back and be done with them. This is getting ridiculous! Casey is a liar. He never showed up to work on this deck like he promised. He was pretty rude on the phone. But he tells me he will look at the pictures I sent him and he will call me back. He doesn't bother to call me back. Instead he sends me a text. He has spent my $3200 on 4 days of labor for 3 guys. They would show up between 9:30-11 am and leave by 4 every day. He has agreed to give me the $3200 back but it has to be in payments because he doesn't have the money. He gives me the sob story about how he is so broke that he can't pay his mortgage and he's going to loose his house. But just 3 weeks ago he was on vacation at the beach. I asked Casey for the receipts for my materials. That came to just over $3800. So I am out $7200 on labor for incompetent workers and their fuel! And Casey only offers $3200 on payments and he would replace the destroyed lumber. I have pictures and screenshots to back up everything I am saying.
I wouldn't recommend Smiths construction to my worst enemy. Casey is a liar and he won't take accountability for anything. He simply blames everyone else. It's never his fault. Do NOT trust Casey! Or he will screw you over too!!!! read more
