Compass is terrible. I went here once in the winter of 2021 and once this summer. I have genuine…read morePTSD from my summer trip and have blocked out most of the experience. I was in the child program (despite being 13), and there were kids who were bullying each other, never enough staff in the room, and very little options in coping skills to use. I felt interrogated during one-on-one sessions, like things I said would be used against me (and they were). I also felt like I couldn't share any of my true thoughts in group sessions because we had to "keep it PG," which with the severity of my issues defeated the whole purpose. It was so overwhelming, I was forced to do sanitized "summer camp activities," and I was often discouraged from using coping skills in the moment. I was also guilt-tripped by my family therapist after telling them I'd be leaving the program early. One more thing I remember is multiple times, kids were having meltdowns and we were kicked out of our rooms, the kids were throwing things at us and screaming, and we were all scared. A kid threw my friend's lunch across the room once. I have nightmares regularly about Compass and I haven't been the same since going. Never again. I hope that this company goes out of business and loses all its money. Because that's what it is, a for-profit company. They don't care about us.

I had an evaluation with Elie Saltzman at the Milwaukee Mind Solutions office last summer and the…read moreexperience I had with Elie Saltzman is still very upsetting to me. I regret going there and I would give them zero stars if I could. During the evaluation and the follow-up, Elie Saltzman directly minimized my lived experiences and instead of giving me diagnostic support, he recommended I take "acting/improv classes" while I was so distraught by receiving this sort of recommendation from a mental help provider that I sobbed through the meeting. Then both Elie Saltzman and that office were unresponsive by phone and email for months while I was waiting on the receipt of my evaluation report. My interactions with Elie Saltzman were far more harmful than helpful.

Julia Woodson, Dori Mages and North Shore Family Services have been a lifeline for our family! We…read morefirst met Julia when my then 7 year old son was getting frustrated at school and struggling with self confidence. She knew exactly how to get through to him and gave him the tools he needed to work through his frustrations and feel good about himself. And recently when my almost 10 year old daughter had us pretty freaked out as she was grasping to understand some really heavy stuff, I reached out in desperate need of guidance and Julia came through for us that same day. She was able to help her understand and make sense of her very confusing feelings in a way that I never could have. By the time we left her office we were both breathing so much easier. As my kids grow and change - and inevitably face new challenges - I feel so blessed to know that Julia, Dori and all of the wonderful, compassionate people at NSFS will be there for us when we need them.
