My mother passed recently after a long stay in a nursing home. The dreaded phone call to begin the…read morearrangements was no hardship. Each person I spoke with (I called multiple times with questions) was naturally welcoming and friendly. I had financial issues and was considering cremation which my mother made me promise I would not do. I had spoken with a funeral home in our hometown about the burial and costs. It was well above the amount of my fortune and was not inclusive of key items (like the casket). I went to discuss the plans at a scheduled meeting with Lindsey Funeral Home and Crematorium. I then met Brandon. He was genuinely interested in my story and recognized my hesitancy to commit to cremation. He made a call and before I knew it had everything figured out and arranged at a price thousands of dollars less than the original questionably high estimate. It was within my budget and included everything! Relief was upon me. I was very touched by his eagerness to help and his efficiency in doing so. His authentic compassion for getting this done affordably renewed my faith in the goodness of businesses who really care. He could see I needed guidance. And he guided. I never dreamed I would be delighted with a funeral home. How does one go through life pleasing and caring for her mom and then betray her wishes at the end. I was so torn already and it had not even been done. Brandon made it possible for my mom to live eternally next to her husband as she wished and I can be free of guilt. Oh, one more thing....the massive building is immaculate and fresh with the perfect amount of local and business memorabilia displayed tastefully and proudly. I never in my life expected to be delighted with a funeral home. Lindsey Funeral Home and Crematorium is whom you must call for legitimate peace following the tragic loss of a loved one.

My husband, as next of kin, had to fill out and sign all the papers allowing this. We live in Northern Illinois and my husband was to receive a small amount of ashes in a tiny urn. We were told that being such a distance away, we could have the urn shipped to us. We were told it would HAVE to be sent one day, with insurance, and signature required; my husband paid the price of $125 that he was told it was to ship that way. Not only did the package NOT arrive with one day shipping (as I had waited at home for it to arrive), it wound up arriving in our mailbox; I understand these are issues we are taking up with USPS, but there was NO insurance paid for (shown on packing label), AND the actual shipping price was approximately $100 LESS than what we were charged. After calling to discuss with the manager how wrong it is to mark things up this much at a time when people are experiencing grief, he offered about half of the over billed back. I just find it disgusting practice to over inflate shipping that much, especially when you handled the cremation itself.
