I would not recommend Caron Smith as a place to seek counseling, more specifically marriage counseling. Indeed, my wife and I had some problems with communication, and also my wife had problems with my anger management issues. After 5 sessions, Caron recommended that we have a 30 day time off period, NOT communicate with one another, AND for both of us to seek individual therapy? In fact, she even recommended by wife see her for my wife's individual therapy! Is this how Caron supports a "caring and safe environment to answer how to live a useful, happy life?" The entire point of marriage counseling is for both husband and wife to explore the relationship's challenges and work together on adjusting the behavioral patterns, no matter how difficult the disconnect or relationship problem currently stands. As a result, both husband and wife can be better communicators, learn to embrace each other's differences and commonalities, and have the priorities in the marriage adjusted that leads to a "caring and safe environment...and live a useful, happy life."
What are the results of Caron's recommendation to have a time off and seek individual therapy for 30 days, only after 5 sessions with Caron? The results are the following: My wife has emotionally and physically disengaged from our marriage, and I have not seen her or talked to her in 4 months as she refuses to communicate or see me. I have continued individual therapy, and have vastly improved my behavior, and I want my wife to see such positive and compassionate change. I have asked my wife for us to return to marriage therapy with a different marriage therapist, and my wife refuses to respond to my request. I understand that sometimes a spouse needs space, but 4 months of space WITHOUT communication? I firmly believe Caron Smith has worsened my marriage to a point of no return. I highly recommend people seeking marriage or couples counseling to not engage Caron Smith's services and seek another, more qualified, therapist. read more
