Took very good care of me and my family at a very difficult time. Empathetic and thoughtful service.

My neighbor of many years passed away. He was a great man an old world gentleman to the end and I felt like I needed to go pay my respects. He and his wife were the among the first people in Forest Glen when they moved here in 1945. Much of this area was just prairie & grasslands when they moved in. He told me that many of the roads were gravel. He & his wife had been married 67 years and were always contributing to the neighborhood. Smith-Corcoran did a good job sending off a pillar of our Neighborhood, a great neighbor & person. He will be missed. Martin and his wife are old world Europeans w/a work ethic unlike most people. They were both members of Queen of All Saints. I use to see them on the Sunday's that I attended church. Great people w/a fitting send off @ Smith Corcoran & QAS. There were a great number of people from the neighborhood that came to pay their respects to Martin read more

They anticipated any possible question or problem!!! They were patient with numerous questions and their flawless attention to detail was apparent when everything went off without a hitch. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for all your help. read more

We would like to thank Kate for going above and beyond helping us on a short notice arranging for a Clergy for our beloved Mother's burial. We highly recommend Smith Corcoran funeral home since we thought that we wouldn't find someone to meet us at the Cemetery and by surprise we received a voicemail from Kate saying "I just wanted to let you know I will also give your brothers a call him that a I did find a a clergy for today that will be meeting you folks at the cemetery so again just wanted to touch base and let you know that I have confirmed somebody" The help was incredibly priceless and can't thank you enoug! read more

I haven't been to many funeral homes but I found that this one was relatively painless. I came here over the weekend for a friends' mom and found that everyone was friendly and helpful to get you quickly where you needed to go. Parking was plentiful, tissue galore and remodeled bathrooms and hallways. read more

We had my mom's visitation at Smith Corcoran funeral home on Cicero. I walk into the lobby. The floor is torn apart, scaffolding, ladders, and painters painting. Smith Corcoran could have had this scheduled for a day when they were closed, like maybe Sunday, but no, they chose to do it on the day of my mom's wake. They do good work, but when you're mourning, and you paying thousands of dollars you should not expect to walk into a construction site. The visitation room should smell like flowers, not like paint & glue, which it did. Smith Corcoran is remodeling the entire building. Do not have services there until they are completely done. You do not want to have the experience I just had with this place. 12/20/11 Update: Adding insult to injury, in addition to Smith Corcoran's insensitive decision to remodel during my mom's services, THEY THREW HER FLOWERS OUT! A funeral home is supposed to lay the flowers at the grave. What ever is left should be taken back to the home and mourners should at least have the option to take them. This was not our experience. After the services at the cemetery family member went back to the grave to find it barren. Nothing. Not one arrangement. Smith Corcoran didn't even unload them. Just took them back to the funeral home and threw them out. Over a thousand dollars worth of flowers tossed into the garbage. When dealing with Smith Corcoran at the cemetery make sure they unload all the flowers and do not leave until they do so. read more

I had the unfortunate task of burying my brother this past week. This is not an easy thing to have to do but I have to tell you that Sandra at Smith Corcoran really took care of me and my family and made the process as easy as it could be under the circumstances. She took care of us prior to the wake, during the wake and on the morning of the funeral. She was professional and really paid close attention to the details that were important to my family. I was so pleased with how everything went and so was the rest of my family. I also would like to add that the facility at Smith Corcoran on Cicero was immaculate and completely kept up to date and classy. I have recently been to wakes at other funeral homes and they just did not compare with Smith Corcoran. I highly recommend Smith Corcoran and would use them again, although I hope to not have to any time soon.... A great big thank you to Sandra and the whole crew at Smith Corcoran for helping us give my brother the funeral with the honor and dignity that he so deserved. read more

My family as well as friends from church have used Smith-Corcoran in the past several years when loved ones have passed away. This is the best funeral home in the business. Their patience, kindness, understanding and help in such a difficult time has been priceless to me and my family. My mother and my father had their services there and both were exceptionally done. Even with different bumps in the road they were able to help me in every single way. They remember you when you call and they are so friendly and each person who works there and shows your family members/friends where to go and any other information people might need. I have especially enjoyed working with Dana who was understanding of my particular situation and helped me make decisions that were really difficult and confusing at times. She even helped with some unexpected and unwanted people who showed up at the wake of my dad with some crazy expectations! My mom passed more than 4 years ago and even then the staff was so sweet and kind to me. I wasn't just another customer. I was someone who lost someone I dearly loved and they let me grieve however I needed to. Also, if you want to make sure your loved one looks wonderful for their wake, this is also the place to go. Both my mom and my dad looked very natural and were taken care of with gentle kindness. When my mom passed, I remember that I had worried about keeping her there while waiting for overseas family members to arrive and I knew my mom was always feeling cold and I asked if they would put a blanket on her. I thought maybe they just said they would just to be nice but they really did it! I found this out much later. Their funeral home, the setting, the music, even the kitchen area and the restrooms were wonderful spaces and always sparkling clean. There was always someone there to answer any questions. Although I've already picked up my father's ashes, it almost felt sad not to see or talk with Dana (my personal representative through it all) anymore. Of course, no one wants to have to deal with the death of a loved one but this would be the place that I would recommend to anyone. I would even recommend it to people who aren't even living near the area simply because of the excellent service and kindness of the staff and the way everything was set up and how every step of the way I was guided patiently through everything. Some things become confusing or sometimes you repeat questions or sometimes your feelings can run away with you but they are so knowledgeable and understanding that they never ran out of patience with me or anyone else and completely understood everything that I needed. My church had them advertised for years on the back of their bulletins but I am already blessed to know them at Smith Corcoran and for their invaluable help and kindness. I'd give them 10 stars if I could! Thank you everyone at Smith-Corcoran; I believe God gives everyone a purpose in this life and each of you have the purpose of helping those who have finished their time on this earth to make it easy to travel to their eternal rest. read more

I cannot say enough wonderful things about the family at Smith Corcoran. Professional individuals with a kind heart, great integrity and honesty. The funeral home was also very clean and well kept, beautiful and classic. I felt so compelled to share my wonderful experience at such a difficult time when saying goodbye to my grandmother. Sandra is outstanding and so is Jay and his wonderful sister. We absolutely appreciated how flexible and wonderful the family was during a Cambodian/Chinese Buddhist wake and funeral service with over 200 people. read more

It's true that they state death Is a business. I went here to talk to somebody am I going to mention any names cuz I wasn't really happy at all. My mom test on the 5th of this month so I never really organized a funeral before my cousin went with me and I had gone to a couple of funeral homes my cousin recommended with you were here as his dad Picanto price is here and my cousins father after that so we talked to a funeral director now mind you it's a state law that the prices have to be listed in a book. So the one place you went everything pretty much was listed this place and everything in packages and there seems to be no we will eczema for example we talked about embalming and keep in mind they don't have each as a separate charge. This other place we went to if we wanted to involve or not the difference was $500. Here you cannot change the price whether we embalm there or not. My cousin haggle while I had stepped out to take a phone call and was told by the director that she had to talk to her bus to see if they could discount it. 5-10 minutes later she came back as I walk back in find out that they could but we went with the embalming anyway. At the end of our agreement my cousin wanted to personally thank the boss for the discounting and she responded that he wasn't here. And it gets better. Because she stated that she would make sure that everything was okay before she went on vacation which I believe was either that day or the following day so she wouldn't be at the service is fine I get that the guy that was there was awesome. Now they provide a obituary section on their website. So I used it and started spreading the word around then linked that obituary to people's Facebook pages and what have you; emails and etc...used my smart phone to text messages and I didn't think I needed to check on it because I was assured she did it and that it would be fine aa I was there when I dictated it to her what was to say. So you can imagine how upset I was when I found out that the name and address date and times were fine.... but the details included were for that of an Asian woman. I called that night and the issue was fixed 15-20 minutes later but the whole day I was sending that link out so I thought also stupid for not checking on it. Then a couple days later she called me and I'm talking about the funeral director that arranged all this and asked if everything was okay, and she didn't even know that all this s*** happened. So more of the story is, death is a business and if you should sadly ever have to use these types of services, do not be upset of the passing of your loved one but think as a business person and get what you can out of what you pay for. I'm not gonna give this less than 3 stars because the doctor that did show up seem to be a really nice guy and the services self pretty good but everything leading up to that was up and down. read more

My family's experience with my father's passing was made much easier with the dedication, professionalism and attention to detail by the knowledgeable staff at Smith-Corcoran. Saying goodbye to our father was very difficult, but the entire staff did an excellent job of making sure that the wake and funeral went smoothly. Bob, Jay, Sandra, Jackie and Dana were very accommodating. They were all very kind to everyone in my family and very sympathetic during this painful time. The funeral home is beautiful, well furnished and very clean. The DVD made from our father's pictures was perfect. I highly recommend Smith-Corcoran. read more

1-28-2013 I attended the funeral procession of one of my Hospice patients. The cars were all lined up behind the hearst to head out to the cemetery, despite being told we would not follow the hearst to the cemetery (I guess due to weather conditions), and were given instructions on how to get there, so we could all meet there within a reasonable amount of time. It was a cold, snowy day and a bit windy. The deceased had been sent so many flower arrangements, they all did not fit inside the Hearst, so one of the sprays was placed on top of the hearst and forgotten there. Despite receiving instructions not to follow the hearst, I did but I maintained my distance. As we all entered the highway, the wind picked up, and the spray on top of the hearst flew off and separated into pieces as it hit the ground; those behind the hearst had no alternative but to run over the fallen pieces of spray. It was one of the oddest processions I have experienced, and I hope the funeral home did not charge the family for the spray which they neglected to place inside the hearst! I felt they were not very friendly, and they should have given us a reason as to why they didn't want us to drive in procession to the place of rest. read more
