My wife and I felt like taking a bit of a drive in the countryside, and we just happened onto this little restaurant and guesthouse. He decided to stop off and have a quick beer, which turned into an early supper.
The setting is absolutely beautiful, its on a little farm, where they rear their own cattle, lamb and have a small trout pond. We sat outside where they were boiling a large copper pot of Glühwein, which was offered to guests on the house.
My wife ordered the creamed fish and potato soup, which was thick, rustic and packed with flavor. I had the knüdel duo, basically, savory bread dumplings, one cheese (which is fried) and the other with speck (cured Austrian ham) covered with chives and Parmigianino and served with hot sauerkraut. The sauerkraut was very different, made with a bit of curry powder and bayleaf. Again, just packed full of flavor.
The meal came in at about 20€ including drinks, which is outstanding value for money.
Rustic, simple cooking done 100% in the right way. We'll be going back as often as possible.
