I think it's nicer to give business to these independently-run, smaller stationers than the larger corporations. The store has the usual - office supplies, envelopes, diaries (they even have some cute mid-year diaries), paper and printing products. It's not the most exciting store in the world, but it fulfills its purpose.

They also have a copy centre for when you need to print flyers or so, but that is just as expensive- or rather cheap- as on campus (5 Cent a page). They also have a pretty big selection of notebooks, pens and pencils here. The only minor complaint is, that they seem to expect their customers to buy stationery in bulk- which makes sense, because students need lots of notebooks- but sometimes you just need a pen and that always seems to amuse the guy behind the counter.

I do some scrapbooking and card-making and find "Inspiring Ideas" to be one the best places around to pick up items for crafts such as this. But when I take that short stair case down to the stationary room at Pen Corner I lose all sense of reason. Despite a less than helpful staff (blonde saleswoman of a certain age, I'm looking at you) the store continues to draw loyal customers new and old thanks to the very best selection of beautiful pens and paper products. The array of note books and journals, greeting cards and sheaf paper plus boxed and single cards is a thing of beauty. Pen Corner has made great strides to incorporate beautifully designed stock that can become your signature without a single pen stroke. I attribute this shop with my ongoing obsession of collecting interesting boxed card sets -shame I don't know enough people to use them all up. There was a bit of a scuffle with that less than friendly saleswoman over an injured pen in need of service, but otherwise I urge you to go... go now! And send me a lovely card!

What is it about pens? People collect them like personality flaws. You already have more than…read moreenough, but you just can't stop collecting more. Pens. And what is it about a good pen? One from which rich color flows smoothly, scratching gently, soothingly against paper. We get disproportionately attached to pens in a way that we don't with most other objects. When you find a good pen, it's such a score. And we all know it's impossible to have too many good pens. We greedily hoard the good ones, especially delighting in good pens we find or steal, knowing that, when the victim realizes his loss, his day will be ruined. We will have ruined that person's day! And we feel triumphant! It's sick. Pens make people go insane. Fortunately, it's not the most detrimental of mental illnesses, and I will openly admit to suffering from it. I blame it on the fact that I am left handed and need just the right pens or else my writing gets smeared all over the place. This is true, but it's really just an excuse to keep collecting, keep hoarding. I will never stop.
