They may not be the cheapest option in the market but they're certainly one of the best.

But Emerald Hill Deli in South Melbourne Market takes the experience to another level entirely. Yes it has all the usual deli offerings but then it goes further. Visit the packed cheese room and I know you will agree. Salivate over the freshly made sweets and slices, the range is huge and every single one looks heavenly. I singled out the huge custard filled vanilla slices ($3.80) for my sweet fantasies. Then there are the freshly made dips, gourmet pizza's and all the high quality small goods you could ask for. In the unlikely event they don't have what you need, they will get it in for you! Yes really. The staff are friendly, fast and more then happy to help you out. Overall the shop is a little small and so they may not have as much to offer. As for the dips, breads, pickles and olives they stock you'll find they're pretty much on par with all the others. Walking into the South Melbourne Market you will be inundated with fresh fruit, veggies and meat, but I would definitely recommend Theo's as my favourite for the best quality meat at the lowest price. If you are looking to save even further try heading to the market at around 2pm - 3pm, right before the stalls close they often discount their produce rather heavily in an attempt to sell it rather than have to throw it away.

In saying that, I'm always apprehensive about purchasing from these type cafes because I can't help but wonder how long the cakes sit there if they ain't selling. But that's my issue I guess. Coffee, it ain't bad. Like, if St Ali were next door I'd go there instead, but this coffee would have to do. Salted caramel macaroon, massive. Too much I'd say, I'm more for the quality than quantity. Overall though, staff were friendly, location is perfect and my sweet tooth was indulged. Maybe one day I'll get over my cake issues and return for a slice of each and every one.

The moment you walk inside to look at the display cabinet you realise that you are going to be here a while. A known pastime at the Albert Park Deli is to sit out the front for the whole day and enjoy breakfast, then lunch, and order dinner to take home. I recommend giving it a try someday.

Besides being a deli full of cheese and meats, it also has a very pleasant cafe area outside where you can grab a coffee and a bite to eat. They offer a range of ciabatta, baguettes, bagels and bruschetta to choose from which makes it a good place for a light bite. I'd prefer a wider range of fillings as it seemed that the choices I liked always had sun-dried tomatoes in them (which I'm not a big fan of). The baguette I had was simple and did the job. I imagine it would be a very popular place for students and workers nearby to grab a snack or lunch with the food mostly around the $10 mark. Unlike the other reviewer, I found their coffee to be really good. I didn't spend too much time looking at the deli. It looked impressive but there didn't seem to be as much as you'd get in King and Godfree.

They work extremely hard (it is that obvious); they really care about keeping the customer happy; yet on such an occasion this was the longest wait I have ever had to wait for their take away coffee in Melbourne. Literally a record wait. In a nutshell, and on this occasion; who really cares. That's right, no one. For $2.70 a pop for a small cafe latte; the waiting around for final service is truly worth it. The staff are also friendly and enthusiastic, and the coffee just feels so great and milky in your mouth; especially with just one scoop of sugar(the smartest offer to accept in my coffee) that you get addicted and want to come back for more; and your coffee has been consumed before you even know it; like it all happened unconsciously at a blink of an eye.
