I reckon the ultimate test for pizza is whether it's worth travelling for. The answer here is an emphatic yes. We adored Small Print. We really loved the pizzas and had a great time here.
It's a nice well laid out space. It's happily located on a corner and on a pleasant mild night like tonight it was lovely with a soft breeze coming through the windows.
First off, we love the Empire Cider from the Yarra Valley that we selected for our drink. Cider can be a bit hit and miss for me, sometimes too sweet and sometimes too dry. This one though is a cracker. Beautifully balanced, it's a lovely drink and significantly better than a number of other varieties around.
We chose two pizzas, the eggplant pizza and the beef pizza. I'd gone close to having one of the specials, the mincedlamb, which sounded lovely too but was overruled. But, we loved the ones we chose. The eggplant pizza was our favourite. It has the most gorgeous, rich and tasty tomato passata topping. The beef pizza too was a beauty and also has a deeply satisfying taste. Both pizzas looked deceptively simple but had wonderful flavour.
Another key point here is the quality of the dough and the cooking skill applied. The dough is proved for two days. The resulting pizza crust is amazing. It's beautifully thin and just so pleasurable to eat the whole lot. It's so common to leave bits of pizza crust, particularly if it's too doughy. There's so such issue here. The whole of the crust is really lovely and as a result we didn't leave a crumb.
You couldn't come here without mentioning the environmental aims of Small Print. The business seeks to reduce its environmental footprint, often an issue with these sorts of businesses.
We had a great time. We liked the place, loved the pizzas and really enjoyed our cider. Service was great too. We'll be back.
