We have sorely regretted going to Small Brooklyn. Absolutely awful neuropsych eval--inaccurate, sloppy, badly written, unprofessional response when we tried to communicate with them. It really set us back in getting placement for our daughter. Unfortunately, a therapist recommended them, saying we'd get a more detailed, complete report, but she couldn't have been more wrong. You are much better off going to someone you can get coverage for if possible, or just use a DOE psychologist, because this place is absolutely not worth what they charge.
By the way, a neuropsych eval is not nearly as impressive as it sounds. Half of the report is based on what you tell them about your kid in an interview--we thought that was just a preliminary inquiry, but a very large part of their data is from that. They run it through some statistical mumbo jumbo and you may end up with a very distorted description of your kid, so be very careful of what you say! Think of it more like you are giving testimony in court than confiding to a mental health professional. We described some problems we were having at home with our child and the report made her out to be a raving lunatic. When we pointed out that the behavior was very specific and never happened in a classroom setting, Brooklyn Psychology absolutely refused to adjust the results, claiming that it would compromise the integrity of their protocol. The fact that their protocol yielded a completely incorrect report didn't seem to concern them in the least.
Aside from this, their own testing was extremely poor. A glaring example was that they scored our child as having "very odd facial expressions", when her face was covered by a mask throughout the whole eval (covid)! Our child definitely has some quirks but her facial expressions are quite normal. We pointed this out and they were unwilling to adjust this, or even take another look at her. They also scored her with an 81 IQ, although she performs at grade level in school. This never seemed right to us and 2 years later a school psychologist scored her at 110.
These are just a few highlights. We had to request all kinds of revisions, and had to fight for every one. It was a terrible experience! read more
