Hi, I was just up in Anchor Point celebrating my friend's 60th birthday at the Homer Shorebird Festival. We were hoping to depart by boat for Lake Clark National Park from Anchor Point River so we stayed at Sleepy Bear as the disembarkation point was close by. Unfortunately due to rough sea conditions our Lake Clark adventure was canceled. We really enjoyed the stay at the beautiful Sleepy Bear cabins. Teresa, the owner and her daughter, take pains to leave the modern yet rustic log cabins' immaculate and guest friendly down to the smallest detail, e.g. the coffee in the coffee maker, the boot tray by the door for shoes, the bathroom, the cable TV, as well as relocating extension cords for our overnight CPAP machines, etc. Because our trip to Lake Clark was canceled we had extra time and thus a couple of lengthy conversations with Teresa. My friend and I, in thinking about our stay on the drive back to Anchorage, decided Teresa was an "event" in and of herself, with her incredible conclusions about life, about child rearing, goodness to others, as well as her incredible passion and zest for life, her inexhaustible (almost) energy, and her dedication and passion for improvement projects for Sleepy Bear Cabins. My belief is, if I returned once a month, Teresa would have completed some new visible improvement on the property in my absence, but alas, I live in Missouri and only sporadically get up to Alaska. A special treat was hearing how committed Teresa is to empowering women and the importance she places on a college education for young women and men in today's world. Teresa's personal odyssey from the corporate world on the East Coast of the lower 48, divorce, and then back to Alaska is filled with life lessons and strengths learned only through the school of hard knocks. We tried to stay an extra couple of days at Sleepy Bear, but there were no vacancies. Maybe another time! Best wishes with your ultimate dream to provide inspiration and activities to the youth of Anchor Point! Thanks again for a great stay Teresa! Roger Goldblatt, Kansas City, MO read more
