I should probably write my own thoughts, but below is the letter my father sent to the staff at Bald Mountain Air. I think it sums up why we loved this adventure and would recommend it to anyone.
Dear Friends,
We've just returned from nearly a month of vacationing in the northwest. We want you to know we will never forget the tremendously huge part Bald Mountain Air's staff played in our vacation experience. Prior to arriving in Homer we had been to Calgary, Alberta, Canada were we were wowed by our tour guide and driver throughout that first week as we viewed the Canadian Rockies, it's many glaciers and lakes, the Bar U Ranch, Lake Louise, black bear, brown bear, elk, mule deer, wild flowers, and a seemingly endless list. From Calgary we set out to Vancouver, B.C., Canada, for a couple of days, and took in some local sights before embarking on a cruise with Royal Caribbean up the northwest coast of Alaska. We flew around in a helicopter over glaciers, went on a dog sledding adventure, visited numerous museums, saw humpback whales breaching, and so many other extras, too many to name.
The point is simply this. We were so pleased to finally arrive in Homer for our brown bear adventure with Bald Mountain Air. The sign-in went smoothly. The pre-adventure orientation went just as smoothly. Our excitement just kept building as we watched the videos of the bears on your high definition monitors. The morning of our flight, when everything came together, we met our pilots, Eric and Tony. We saw the two spic-and-span De Havilland Otters setting dockside, awaiting our boarding. With our final orientation completed, documents signed and checked, hip boots on, seats assigned, and aircraft loaded, we were off, across the Cook Inlet, past Mt. Augustine's donut shaped rim of fog and clouds, to Katmai and the brown bears.
Professional! Professional! Professional! From beginning to end, so very professional. And the pilots even had an outstanding sense of humor. Did I mention we saw bears, lots of bears, up close and personal bears? The pinnacle of our Canada and Alaska adventure was right there with the staff of Bald Mountain Air, and a group of some two dozen brown bears, some with three very small cubs, in the Katmai National Park of the Alaska Wilderness. On a scale of one to ten, we give your staff, the pilots, the airplanes, and the bears a 10+++.
Our "Thank you" goes equally to Kari, Mitzi, Heidi, Eric, and Tony...no one first or last, but equally. God Bless You for the experience of a lifetime. read more
