Sleep Number is an "integrity-free"company: (expect misrepresentation)
We selected Sleep Number based on their claim of "100 day satisfaction guarantee". This may seem like they are matching Casper's 100 day end-to-end guarantee, but SN are NOT EVEN CLOSE.
These mattresses are essentially like the old frameless tube waterbed mattresses-- where there is a foam surround that keeps the bladder in place. Only difference: this is air instead of water. So these beds are essentially a Costco air mattress you might buy for camping, but they are surrounded by foam rubber and covered with fabric to look like a regular mattress-- not terribly complicated. If you like a firm setting, air pressure increases the pressure against the foam sides. If you sit on the the edge of the bed (getting in and out) this puts further stress on the foam. Soon, (very soon as it turns out) the sides start to breakdown, so there was a pronounced dip on the mattress edge and the air bladder followed along. 30 days, and there's this massive dip in a brand new mattress that couldn't be corrected even at a 100 setting.
The mattress surround began to break down immediately. We tried working with them, changing the foam in the topper, but to no avail. Keep in mind, I'm only 182 lbs and my wife is 125. These beds are entirely inappropriate for anyone who likes a firm setting.
We had spent almost $10K on the whole package secured by their "100% satisfaction guarantee." But sadly, we were done trying this contraption in good faith, so we asked to return it.
So, in the fine print: they only guarantee the mattresses, not all the other custom stuff like headboard, powered base and "silhouette" surround that's needed to make a bed, on and on. And there's a $700 restocking fee on top of that. Total we are out $2,300 -- roughly $75 per night for bad sleep, hassle and heartache.
We were skeptical of the technology to begin with. Still, if you absolutely, positively have to try the Sleep Number bed, put the mattresses ON THE FLOOR for the trial period. DON'T BUY ANY OTHER ACCESSORIES before you are positive it will work for you. It's a major hassle, but the only way NOT to get screwed. This way you'll only be out the restocking fee, which is still ludicrous.
Conclusion: Sleep Number is a "integrity-free" sales environment. Run to Casper or company with real satisfaction guaranteed!! read more
