Purchased a mattress from them in April. Was told by costumer reps that it was in transit for over 4 weeks (I am a Roanoke native). As I'm on my journey to eliminating as many toxic products I use, bedding was a big item. The gentleman who owns the store has a ton of youtube videos with extensive information and you can certainly tell, he wants you to know the the truth about the mattress business. He goes into details and is able to back his words. Decided this is where we would buy our set. The online store takes a second to figure out as far as which mattress to choose. Its a little tricky for me because, I'd rather be at the store and test them out. This company is too far away to do it. I called to the store and the owner helped me with questions and was really nice. You can tell he really cares about people. I took a chance and ordered the middle firmness. It was easy to put together but I didn't have a good night sleep for about two weeks. Seems like my body needed time to adjust. I do feel like I needed 1 level softer but after the 2 weeks its been fine. Hubby went hard core ultra firm and is absolutely loving it. Lee, Just wanted to say how much my wife and I are loving the AR-1 split queen mattress and adjustable base we purchased from you about 7 months ago. The mattress is unbelievably comfortable! Despite it being the least popular, we are so glad we chose the arrangement recommendation-1 (AR-1). We were a little apprehensive at first because we were ordering it online and unable to try it first. Your videos explaining the various arrangement recommendations were very helpful! It made deciding on the arrangement much easier and gave us more confidence when choosing online. Based on our body weight, which was below 150lbs for each of us, the AR-1 was a no-brainer since we were leaning towards a softer mattress. I don't know why the AR-1 is the least popular? We recently purchased two xl twin latex mattresses from sleep Essentials. The mattresses came in three 50 lb boxes and one smaller box containing the two covers. It was a bear putting the first mattress together following the instructions but after doing the first one the second one was easier. The mattresses went on two electric beds and were very comfortable. We just purchased a Split King Mattress set or two Twin XL Perfection 30 mattresses. I will return with a review after we have time to further evaluate and sleep on them but cannot believe those that believe this is not an honest and trustworthy organization and selling process. They are selling 100% natural latex mattresses that have no apparent smell to me and there was no hard-sell approach at all. It was actually a very pleasant experience at their Roanoke location. It is incumbent on everyone to do their research and evaluation for this major purchase. They do not sell toppers that I know off and if they - I am not sure how you would know it - there is nothing like that in their show room. Sleep Essentials... The Best mattress made. I studied all of videos and fully agreed with the points that Lee was making, but was not sure about the claims he made. After a ton of research, I decided to buy the split California King with the Leggett & Platt S-Cape adjustable frame. In the video and website, they explained we would get a 6" latex mattress and a 3" latex mattress, what I received were three 3" mattresses all within the various firmness ranges I had asked for. I wasn't too happy about the initial looks of the latex construction, they glued on a strip to make it a California King, I staggered the mattresses to counter this. I called Lee and he was quick to help explain and once I assembled the mattress it all worked out as advertised, in fact I prefer the three 3" mattresses which allowed me to change the firmness of the mattress in finer degrees by switching the order of mattresses and the added strips at the end were only a cosmetic concern. I am 6'4" 260lbs and always had issues with mattresses forming a cavity in the center of the bed within 12 months of owning a mattress, then I had to deal with it for a few years until I broke down and bought a new one. I tried multiple types of mattresses including a foam latex which was extremely expensive and worthless. What Lee says about natural from the tree latex is very true. I waited 18 months to write this review to see if this mattress would hold up to claims. It has actually done more than hold up to the claims, it has improved since I first assembled it. It took me about a month to get used to the new mattress, but once it settled in and I got used to not sleeping on a bad mattress this split California King has been AWESOME. After 18 months there is no hint of a body cavity or signs of breaking down. I have not rotated the mattress between my wife's side and mine, nor flipped the mattress as I had to do with others. This mattress is going strong! I look forward to sleeping in it every night. The Leggett & Platt S-Cape adjustable frame is worth getting, I don't use it as much as expected, but when I need to use the adjustment or features, it is priceless. The toxic free mattress is also a unique and important feature, I never had issues with other mattresses in that use chemicals, but why deal with it when it isn't necessary. We bought a mattress from Sleep Essentials a few years ago. It is the worst mattress we have ever had. We went back to Lee to express our displeasure within a few weeks of our purchase. Lee just grinned at us and said there was nothing he could do -- you can't return a mattress that you had already slept on. We paid $1,200 for a terrible mattress. After a couple of years we finally gave up and purchased a new mattress, which we only paid around $850 that is s-o-o-o-o much better. Hello people with pain that are searching for a new mattress! I have to tell you to buy this mattress from Lee here at Sleep Essentials. I live in Pasadena, Ca. and I had him ship my mattress to me, sight unseen. He asked what the combined weight of the people sleeping on the bed and the height and what position we slept. With that information he was able to tell me what would be the best mattress for use. I didn't have to pay someone local for delivery, set up and removal. This was my birthday gift to myself and I am in love with it!!! I slept on it for the first time and I woke up without my ankles and my right trap and side of my neck hurting me. Now I need to tell you, I gave my big name brand mattress to someone who couldn't afford to buy a mattress, then I started SLEEPING ON MY HIDE AWAY MEMORY FOAM BED. I purchased a mattress set from Sleep Essentials over the phone after being assured it did not have any smell, odor, or off gassing whatsoever as I am extremely sensitive. It was delivered on February 12, 2018. I had an allergic reaction to it as it did have an odor and was off gassing. Lee Carter told me with a letter from my doctor stating the mattress was making me sick and my symptoms he would refund my $2,500.00 that I paid in cash. I went to see my doctor late that afternoon and she faxed him the letter. He did not honor his word and refused to refund my money and pick up the mattress. That weekend my reaction was so severe that I had to go to the Medi Express Urgent Care. On February 21st I saw another one of my doctors and he wrote a letter about the mattress making me sick and my extreme sensitivities to environmental chemicals. He said the only solution was for the company to take back the mattress. I have over $1,200 in medical bills and $129.00 in prescription drug cost. By law Lee Carter cannot deliver a mattress without a prescription from my doctor. Neither one of my doctors wrote a prescription for the mattress. I have been sleeping on my sofa since February 12, 2018 the day the mattress was delivered. I cannot go into my bedroom because the smell is so bad. I do not have any other beds. I am a senior lady on disability and need my $2.500 back in order to buy a new bed. I am scheduled to have surgery in less than two weeks. Lee Carter knows all of this. My husband and I were told by our chiropractor that we should consider getting a new bed since we were having maintenance issues on our necks and backs that were reoccurring - and we often complained that we felt worse after a night's sleep. Doug did research on new beds (as he always does when we purchase a new product) and found that they were putting chemicals in the new beds today for fire protection - and that did not interest us! So he searched manufacturer's that were not putting chemicals in their products - and he found Lee Carter at Sleep Essentials in Roanoke. His delivery team returned from a delivery about the time we were purchasing our new bed. They gladly said they would deliver our new bed and set it up for us that same night. They were GREAT - kudos to Lee's delivery team! At 9 PM - we had our new bed - and my husband and I both slept better than we EVER have! The bed is WONDERFUL - like no other! We bought pillows as well - made from the same material as the bed - and they are the BEST too! Our backs and necks are much better already - thank you Lee! I got a bed from Sleep Essentials about 2.5 years ago. Since then, I have slept the best I have ever slept. It is a good quality and supportive mattress, and it does not have the terrible smell from the fire retardant chemicals. It still sleeps as fresh and supportive as it did the first night. I tend to sleep on my stomach, sides, back and everything in between and with this mattress I no longer wake up sore and unrested. There is also not a noticeable dip in the mattress. I would expect one to be present since I purchased a twin xl and you pretty much sleep in same spot. I actually got the twin xl with the expandable bed frame anticipating that I would upgrade to a king after marriage without necessarily buying a king now. It has been a wise investment thus far. I am proud of the product they make and I could not imagine sleeping on anything else as a main bed. I'll also add their pillows are pretty good too. I got the shredded pillow and it is still as fluffy as the day I got it with the bed. I truly have no critiques for this bed at all. As far as customer service goes, the rep that was there when I was testing out the bed softness was very patient and friendly. I tested those beds at the Roanoke location for over an hour. He was quick to get me checked out and thorough in the set up. The delivery guys where on time, but forgot the box spring and frame. Having said that, I did not mind. The bed slept so incredibly well even without the box spring and frame, that this small mishap seemed meaningless. They set everything up quick and easy when the box spring and frame came a coupe days later, mind you they made a special trip all the way down to western NC just for my frame and box spring with no extra cost. I recently purchased the queen sleep essentials mattress and am thoroughly pleased with the comfort. The bed was actually delivered by Lee (plus 1) who was kindly allowing a couple of his employees the evening off for family celebrations. They called to be sure the late evening delivery was still ok, and they were courteous, efficient and thorough getting it set up. I also purchased the pillow with "pieces" of latex. And unfortunately I have to add this pillow to the pile of expensive pillows that have 'not' been satisfactory. I find that the pillow has a latex smell! yes, I said smell. (there must be enough material around the mattress cover that I do not smell it) I contacted the store rep who sold me the mattress and pillow and inquired about how long it would take for the smell to dissipate. He said that ...'for those of us who can smell it" , it will eventually dissipate. So apparently I have a sensitive nose. No problem, I'll try to cover it with more fabric to help. Well, last night was the test and it was significantly less smelly with 4 pillowcases (alternating...cotton, silk, cotton, silk, all with high thread count). But I was not pleased to still smell it as I woke up this morning. I'm very disappointed because it is quite supportive for a side sleeper. So I highly recommend the mattress, but NOT the pillow 'if' you can smell it. Remember, the one in the show-room may not be 'new'! read more

First off let me say that I love my Perfection 20 Natural Latex Mattress from Sleep Essentials. I discovered Sleep Essentials after researching for a replacement mattress for my wife and I. We have had a memory foam mattress for the past 7 years and it was not sleeping well anymore. I was tired of tossing and turning all night and waking up with a sore back and shoulders. My wife felt the same way. We then did an in-home trial of the new Select Comfort Sleep Number M7 memory foam/ air hybrid they just came out with. After 30 days of trial, we had enough. I have slept on air mattresses in camping tents that were more comfortable than the Sleep Number mattress. We had the company come back to our home, disassemble and haul it off. That trial cost me $400 to save me the total $3,500 they charge for that piece of crap. I say crap because I watched them put it together and take it apart. It made me nauseated to watch how cheaply they are made and thrown together while knowing that I had fallen victim to the marketing machine that is today's mainstream mattress industry. I know a thing or two about what and how things burn within a residence. Your mattress catching fire is the least of your worries unless you are a smoker and have a habit of falling asleep while smoking in bed. Everything in homes today is synthetic petroleum based products like carpet and padding, upholstery cushioning foams, polyester/nylon blend furnishings, wall coverings and window dressings. Don't forget of all of the plastics that are also housed within and the glue resins that compose press-wood/vainer cabinets and various other furniture items. Those things are your true fire threat that produce tons of cubic feet of toxic fumes when they burn. Why would I want a mattress to be sprayed and infused with other chemicals, supposedly placed there to keep me safer. I don't buy it. If my house is on fire and I don't get outside ASAP, then a mattress sprayed with FR chemicals won't help me much at that point. I will have been dead already from the other fire related chemicals and byproducts within the smoke. Point of origin fires involving mattresses as the cause are so miniscule, it isn't worth much discussion. Negligence or smoking in bed is the bigger issue at hand when discussing mattress safety as it pertains to fire, not the mattress it self's burnability. We sleep with our faces buried against our mattress for 1/3 of our lives. Chemicals are knowingly absorbed through our skin and inhaled through our respiratory systems. Can't we find 8 hours of solace, free of chemical bombardment? Apparently only by prescription, all thanks to lobby groups representing big name mattress suppliers and chemical manufactures and the corruption of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. My Chiropractor was more than happy to sign my prescription for my Sleep Essentials mattress. I'm just grateful that a gap exists in the new FR guidelines that allows for purchasing chemical free mattresses by prescription. Long story short, I took a chance once again or a leap of faith if you will. I put my trust in Lee Carter at Sleep Essentials, that he was honest and telling the truth when answering all of the questions that I had regarding his mattresses and those of others. I relied heavily on his extensive research and experience from working directly within the industry over the past 10 years or so to make my decision to purchase a new bed. I made the decision to take a couple of days to drive the 8 hours 15 minutes and 525 miles from south central Indiana to Roanoke, Virginia just to lay on and try out all of his different latex mattress options to find just the right comfort level for my wife and I. The gamble paid off with huge dividends. We couldn't be happier with our king size Perfection 20 Pure Natural Latex Mattress. I wish I would have discovered Sleep Essentials years ago. Be prepared to pay and pay and pay. I bought these because I didn't want to keep replacing my wonderful 3" foam mattress toppers every 4 years but please know that there is NO refund, NO exchange or trade, NO guarantee. The sales person will ask your weight, height, and sleeping pattern/issues then he will tell you which mattress pads you need to build your bed. Its pretty much a craps shoot on whether you will be comfortable or not. Your money is gone before you even hang up the phone when you order. If you are not satisfied too bad. Your only recourse is to KEEP BUYING more mattresses (actually individual toppers) until you are comfortable. They do only charge you 1/2 price for these substitutes though but then you are stuck with $450 original toppers that are useless. During your first call they only tell you there is no refund but tell you you can "swap out" the toppers . I took this to mean exchange or trade but they are very careful NOT to use those two words because "swap" to them means you BUY others and swap them out on your bed. I originally bought 4 toppers, 3 to make a bed and 1 as a soft topper for our RV. All was too firm even though I bought the soft ones. The second call to the store resulted in the above info that was never mentioned in the first call. I chose to purchased the ULTRA SOFT topper so all is not lost to replace the soft RV topper and I don't know if there was an error or what but its even harder than the first one. I had to put my old 3" foam topper on the new bed so our shoulders and hips wouldn't hurt otherwise its too hard but I'm done paying them more money. I will just have to keep buying new foam toppers when they wear out. These purchases were a complete waste of $2,225.00 for us but to be fair what you are getting for your money is the durability of latex and no chemicals (that's a biggy). My issue isn't so much the product as it is this company's policies. Only a couple companies make latex mattress's and all the sellers buy from the same makers. They are the same exact mattress's. Buy from a company that has better return policies. Incidentally, you don't need a prescription for these as stated in the video because they are sold and invoiced as individual toppers. That thing in the first or last review about a doctor's prescription, I heard that too from the same man, first, I don't believe that, there are 100% organic mattress shops all over the place. I was there, and believe you me, he's a good salesman, he also will sell you what you want and if it's not what you want (maybe you found one you like that's full of chemicals because he sells BOTH kinds, safe and unsafe) he won't say a word if you like or think you like the chemical ones. When you get home you see you got the wrong thing and he didn't say anything to you because you accidentally said I want this, I like this thinking it was an organic one. He wont tell you different. I researched adjustable beds for over a month. Visited a couple of big box retailers with fancy show rooms and fancy prices and pushy sales people. Learned that Leggett and Platt were the best base model and that latex was most durable and chemical free. Made the trip to Roanoke and was impressed by Mrs. (Lee's wife) who was minding the store. She was very friendly and knowledgeable about the Leggett Platt adjustable beds and mattress types. She allowed us to test several and gave us privacy to discuss our decision. We were so impressed by the quality that we purchased two beds. Delivery was made two days earlier than expected. The delivery personnel were very professional and explained each step of the process while installing the beds and then provided a full tutorial on operations and care of the beds. My wife and I were shopping for a new mattress for our bed. The old one had depressions in it from years of use. Also, my wife was waking up almost every morning with a head ache. We visited a mattress specialty shop, tested their product in the store and got a quote from them for what we liked. We also visited a local furniture store and tested several major brands in the store getting a quote for what we liked. We then went to Sleep Essntials and checked what was available there. Lee Carter, the owner, explained his product to us, allowed us to test it in the shop and explained that his product did not have the chemicals present in other matresses. He quoted us a price for mattress and motorized bed for up/down changes in the mattress head and foot elevation. We thought it over and choose Lee's product over the other brands we had looked at and are extremely satisfied thus far.
