Once COVID started, he consistently used that as his excuse. I understood that he couldn't do anything when everything was locked down, but I was hoping he finally would once things opened again. After COVID, he continued to not do anything and after a couple of months him and his wife decided to simply not answer or reply to any text, email, or phone call (they screen their calls) when all I was trying to do is see if he would follow through with what he said he'd do. The short story is I gave them over $40,000 and 5 months on my case with absolutely no changes in custody. They wouldn't even go in front of a judge to discuss my case. Kept telling me to be patient. Basically kept stringing me along giving me false hope but they were more than happy to keep "drafting" emails and whatever else he was writing. It seemed like all he did was draft letters and meet and confer with opposing counsel. Opposing counsel just did whatever they wanted. I would have been better off scheduling a date to go in front of the judge and representing myself. To top it off I had finished all of my preliminary declaration of disclosures and assumed they had given it to opposing counsel. Three months later I had enough of both Steve and his paralegal Laura and I fired them. As soon as I hire new representation the first thing opposing counsel did was send a demand for the PDOD and were requesting sanctions, meaning they wanted me to pay my ex for not providing PDOD's. I asked Laura why they hadn't been sent and her response was I sent you an email to sign electronically and you never signed it. Ok so maybe it was my fault for missing the email, maybe it went to spam but for whatever reason I didn't see it. You'd think spending all that money they could have least reminded me I needed to sign it considering it had been 3 months. The other thing that bothered me was that Steve was completely unprofessional in the way he talked to me. It felt like he was working for the opposing side. I had never gone through a divorce before and only have one child so all of this was completely new to me. It all just felt so wrong until I hired new counsel. Once I hired new counsel I understood what it should feel like to be represented. I felt like my new counsel had my back. She explained everything and gave me options. I felt like I finally actually knew what was going on with my case. She didn't spend her time drafting emails and meeting and conferring with the other side.
