The Finnair SkyWheel is one of the new main attractions and charakteristic landmark of Helsinki. And a ride on it is definitely worth it. For 12 € (9 € for children) you board one of the blue cabin that brings you around 40 meters up in the air. From up there you have the probably best view over the city and the harbour. And that is because best thing about the Skywheel is most likely its location. From the seaside in Katajanokka just behind Kauppatori you can see most of Helsinkis important sights like the Tuomiokirkko, Uspenski Cathedral, Torni, Esplanadi and more. The cabin has a capacity of up to eight persons. Depending on the day you might even have one just for yourself though. If you want to enjoy real luxury while enjoying the view over the city then you should book the VIP cabine (the blax one). It includes a champagne welcoming and a longer ride of 25 instead of just 15 minutes. The VIP cabine is for a maximum of four people and costs 195 € per ride.

One of the top wine bars if not the best one in helsinki. They have a very impressive list of wines…read moreby the glass and prices are also reasonable. I was impressed on my last visit when they for example had 5 different sparkling wines (2 champagnes, 1 prosecoo, 1 cava and 1 cremant) by the glass, prices ranging from €7 to €14. Most of the wines are ecological and while they are not fanatical about it they strive to have mostly ecological but most importantly good wines. The staff are very knowledgeable and very happy to chat about the wines. They also serve some cheese and charcuteries to go with the wine. The space is a bit weird as they share it with a hair salon but it is an efficient use of the space. It does however work best when it is a bit dark as it otherwise is very visible that the furniture is a bit worn. Still a nice place f glass of wine or more.

For that reason you can be sure to find get some wines here you most probably won't find at Alko. Ask the bar tender for a recommendation. There will surely be something to suit your taste. Vin-Vin of course also has other drinks than wine but for anything else. Wine is their specialty though and for anything else you will probably find something more suitable elsewhere in town. Especially if you consider coming here during the weekend try to be early. The place doesn't have too many seats and it get's crowded here pretty fast. I managed to get in only after the fourth try.

I have been to a handful of amusement parks in my time, and to be honest, Linnanmäki (aka…read moreBorgbacken) is not the best of the best. But what it does have going for it is that visitors can enter without having to pay an entrance fee. Then, they can choose to purchase a full-day wristband, or buy rides individually. I ended up visiting Linnanmäki after hanging out in the adjoining Alppipuisto Park. My companions and I had the idea to go up in the Panorama Tower, which is free to visit. As the name suggests, it gives riders a 360-degree view of the city from above. We also then opted to try out the Vuoristorata rollercoaster, which is the most iconic ride in the park. Although it wasn't the best wooden rollercoaster I have been on (the Giant Dipper is perhaps my favorite), it still is quite cool. Fun fact: it was the last rollercoaster in the world to be built with side friction technology. All in all, I think Linnanmäki knows what it's doing with allowing anyone to enter, because that means people will buy one-off ride tickets, food, etc. If you are in Helsinki for a few days and nearby, consider checking it out and, at the very least, taking a ride up in the tower.

It's free to enter the park but the rides are insanely expensive. €8 for a single ride! You can get a wrist band for €36 which is still high seeing as there aren't that many rides. A couple of the rides are free such as the Ferris wheel, observation tower, carousel and the tea cups. I went on the wooden rollercoaster called Vuoristorata and it was fun. It's a good place to visit if you're visiting Helsinki even if you're not planning on going on any rides.
