What an experience! My friend and I had a fantastic experience and had a great day jumping out of a plane! We had a beautiful day to go, mid-august. The staff was all super friendly and made sure we understood everything that was going on and kept us feeling safe. Great location, on a clear day you can see milwaukee and Chicago from the air! My review is based on the experience I had as the parent and seeing the absolute joy captured on my daughters face in every single photo / video purchased as part of the media package. The overall experience was absolutely amazing! We had booked originally for yesterday but due to wind conditions making it too dangerous to jump, we received a rain check. She had gone through the training & it was so thorough with enough safety checks that I almost felt confident enough to go myself but my fear of heights & the thought of jumping out of a perfectly good plane nearly gives me a panic attack so my daughter gets to enjoy this on her own. My daughter was disappointed when we got the news of the wind hold but we appreciated safety being considered first and foremost over everything else. We made a reservation for first jump the next morning and the weather felt perfect with less wind when we arrived. Today went seamlessly. Checked in and since she already went through the training, she just had to wait for her name to be called. As we were waiting, many single jumpers were landing nearby and it was so cool to see it up close and hear the parachutes as they're coming down. Within about a half hour she was in the back room getting her gear on and up in the air shortly thereafter. I had chosen the premier media package and it's worth every penny! More photos than I expected and a great video including a brief interview with her on the ground and footage getting on the plane, in the air & her reaction to the experience upon landing! We were told we'd have the media by the end of the day but we had it within an hour & I don't think there was a second she wasn't smiling from ear to ear! The videographer/photographer did a phenomenal job capturing every moment & immense gratitude to the tandem flyer for giving my daughter the experience of a lifetime! Skydiving has been on my daughters wish list as long as I can remember and I'm so happy we chose Skydive Midwest. The staff was incredibly helpful, supportive, safe, and professional throughout. Awesome experience! My laid back, a little afraid of flying son told us he wanted to go skydiving for his 19th birthday!?! Whew. Buckle up... this is the first review so far, I have intentions of going back. I'm experienced in weather, and I understand VFR Ops Thoroughly. I didn't get to jump due to weather. Cool, ill take my rain check and find time to come back, after all it does say no refunds for jumps. Makes sense, people gotta eat and weather can't be controlled. (The rain check isn't very elaborate but if it works it works.) I see no reason they can't refund the photo/video packages they sell at the counter when the weather goes bad. I'm NOT surprised they are accused of stealing peoples money... because the justification for not doing refunds for photo packages isn't there. Validating the no refunds policy with concerns of the employees (concerning the photo packages specifically) is poor business/customer service. I think this has room for ALOT of improvement. Lastly, most of the staff was pleasant. When I checked in I immediately wondered if this was a family run business ... because the clerk that checked me in reminded me of when you ground your daughter and sentence her to working the front desk... and I tried to overlook it... but nah fam... it didn't get better. Everyone else was dope... but yeah... the experience level in how business is done was less than varsity on the customer service side. I'll go back and update this. Everyone was super nice and helpful but Travis was the best instructor he made me feel comfortable and safe giving me all the information to know I was in good hands; made me feel safe before and during the whole process and made sure I was comfortable . An amazing experience to jump of a plane and see everything from up above. My issues was with the lack of communication with our group. Had a noon appointment and didn't jump until about 2. Another issue is, you better hope you get a camera man and instructor who is energetic. Unfortunately the guy I was with didn't really interact with me or camera man. However my groups instructors and camera man were completely different story. Also if you pay for pictures and video, they say you will get them in 30 minutes it's the next day and still nothing mind you I payed 120 for these. read more

Amazing! I've only been skydiving once before (in New Zealand), but this place absolutely kills it. We went up early one Saturday morning, and unfortunately to our dismay, it was too cloudy to jump. No problem though! These guys took care of us immediately, no questions asked. We all got vouchers to come back at any time within the next year to redeem our Groupon vouchers for the tandem jump. We opted to come the following Sunday. Next weekend comes along and since we had already done the waivers and the training class, we were literally the first people to jump! It was absolutely incredible. The service and the jumpers were 5 stars for sure. Such comforting and confident people making you ecstatic about jumping out of a perfectly good plane rather than petrified. They take you through the jump step by step in practice before loading the place, on the way up they review with you and amp you for the dive! The free fall itself felt like it lasted forever; it was amazing! Legit seemed to last at least 60 seconds which is a pretty long period of time. The view was gorgeous and my tandem partner made the experience a blast. Once we opened the parachute, he even taught me and let me direct the parachute myself which was super awesome. Really easy coast down in to the landing position and overall the thrill of a lifetime. My 55 year old father even did it and had a blast! We also opted in for the photo and video package and were all incredibly impressed with the moments captured and the professionalism of the photographers and videographers. What a place. Everyone working there are great to deal with. From the girls I dealt with on the phone (Rachel, Peyton, Isabell and Bella) to my instructors (James and Wagner) to my camera guy (Neil) everyone made you feel right at home and comfortable. 7/29 was my second tandem jump this year. My first dive ever was here a month earlier with a group of 19 of us for a friends birthday. The experience was indescribable. Any fear and anxiety I had previous to boarding the plane was comforted by the professional yet fun attitude of every employee. Even the ones that were packing chutes and whatnot would give you words of encouragement and make you less scared. The jump and my instructor (James) was way more incredible than I ever imagined. James talked to me like a buddy at the bar all the way down. Let me control the chute and asked about doing some sunts and made sure I was comfortable with what he was doing. 3 out of the 19 of us had a little video problem but we did not know it till we got home. Rachel had contacted me and agreed. They made us an offer to make it right that i believe was more than fair. The jump on 7/29 was even better. I told Wagner that on the first jump i was anxious in the plane as we got hight and higher. This time I was calm as could be and couldn't be more ready for that door to open. Wagner got us out of the plane and Neil was immediately there grabbing my arms and spinning us around. The video he took was great. I couldn't wait to show my friends. The interaction of everyone at this place is akin to like a good bar or restaurant service. Often at any attraction the employees are regimented and demanding and treat you like cattle in a stockyard just getting you though. Not here. You fell so comfortable and welcome and at the same time you are confident they know what they are doing and have your safety in mind as well. There is skydive places closer to LaCrosse where I live but i don't even care to try them now as this is my place. I don't even want to dance not getting this treatment. All told, this couldnt've gone better. Bought it as a groupon, everything was safe and well maintained, the staff were fun and great at what they do. 10/10. Oh, and I survived! Sonny - you're the bomb! First time jumping out of a plane, couldn't have felt safer. The instructors here are rock solid, explained everything, so that by the time I sidled up to the cargo door of a tiny two-prop plane, I was comfortable jumping out. Well, as comfortable as you can be jumping out of an airplane. This was my first jump, and I went tandem. I had brought a GoPro to film myself with a wrist strap, and was told at the last second that I couldn't jump with it. I was able to rush and buy a film package, which was not how I wanted to do it, but that worked out. I was followed around, paparazzi style, by my Kuhle-guy cameraman. That was a trip unto itself. Particularly after we jumped, my photog was flying around, buzzing us, he even highfived me in midflight. That man must have icewater in his veins! So, I was originally pissed that I couldn't film myself, but I get that Skydive Midwest has a business to run, and Kuhlio did a 10X better job than I would've done myself. Seriously, the guy had a DSLR camera strapped to his helmet. And he hangs onto the side of the plane as you jump. Oh yeah, big shout out to the parachute-packer-guys, who I did not meet! Your packaging was sublime, our parachute opened as planned and I totally did not die. Y'all should collect tips. read more

1,100th review and why not review a once in a lifetime experience? Skydive Midwest, near Racine, was a great place to do my first Tandem Skydive! ("First"? I thought "once in a lifetime" meant "once"!) With a Groupon, the dive was affordable, and worth the price. Booked for 2pm Friday, I dove around 5pm. Others in my group of about 20 went earlier, just to give you a rough time estimate. Weekends, I have heard, can be a bear, but there are picnic tables, bean bags, a grill, and generally the waiting area isn't bad. I've heard they've made lots of improvements here, so if you haven't been in a while, there are new bathrooms, an indoor and outdoor waiting area, and vending machines. They could use a bubbler, as having to bring or buy water for a 3 hour wait seems unneccesary. Our "training" (if you could call it that) was really quite rushed. The young guy that went through it, was a bit flip, and not as thorough as I would have liked for a risky situation. I noticed only one other (older) guy had any questions, so maybe I'm just less of a risk taker by wanting to know the proper steps of the jump. But others in our training were obviously nervous, and jokes about dying or "feeling off today" might be best if they're skipped at this point in the jump process. Talked with another jumper in our group and he hadn't gone through the training, and wondered how to do the Tandem Jump. The great thing is that when you're getting suited up with the gear, your instructor goes over everything with you again. My dive was with "Klicke", and he was awesome. I had a few questions in the plane, and he went through the whole process, and made me feel at ease, while also getting me pumped for the jump. The Dive: - 10 minutes of the plane going up to alt. of ~14,000 feet is a little unnerving, but I also decided if the world were to end, these risky adventurous skydivers would be a great lot to be paired with! Your instructor will go over the dive with you at this time. - 1,2,3 Jump! Jumping out of a plane takes a lot of faith. In the equipment, and in your instructor. Let Go is all you can do. - Free Fallin'! I'm pretty sure Tom Petty never jumped out of an airplane, and was speaking metaphorically. Cuz this part is nowhere near as relaxing as his dreamy song. But it's also not as bad as I thought it would be. Going 120mph for 50-60 seconds towards farm fields is pretty cool. - Parachute! When the chute opens, it's pretty cool. The instructor then undid my hip clips to him and then checked my comfort level. He did a few 360 spins, and then let me drive the chute! I did a few 720s each way, and that was fun. It's very relaxing, and offers incredible views. - Landing! Sweet mother Earth! You'll skid on your butt and get some grass stains, so don't wear light colors. High five your instructor, and tips are appreciated for good service. For 48 hours after your jump, you can book again at a discount. And if you want to get the whole experience on video, they offer that for a little over $100. Cool if you're celebrating a birthday, or what not, but I found the Tandem Jump itself pretty unforgettable, and didn't feel the need to share. Oh, except for this very long review! I cannot say enough great things about the experience I had yesterday at Skydive Midwest! A few weeks ago when I asked my bestie what she wanted to do for her birthday, and she said, "I kinda want to jump out of a plane ..." I immediately responded with, "Really? I'd probably jump out of a plane with you!" And the master plan was born. What better way to celebrate your birthdays than experiencing your first free-fall together?! To sum up the experience in 1 word ... Amazing. I jumped with "Mo-Diggs" who was just awesome. He was super fun, and started joking with me from the moment he introduced himself and started to get my harness on - a trait which was SUPER appreciated since I was incredibly nervous for what was about to happen. Their website states that all of their jumpers have done at least 4,000 jumps. Well, Mo has done over 24,000 ... no, that's not a typo. "Bull" (also hilarious) was who my bestie jumped with, and he had done around 14,000 jumps himself. Everyone there is obviously super experienced and I'd feel comfortable telling anyone and everyone I know to go jump with these guys if you've ever had any inclination that you might want to attempt it. I also sprung for the super mega photo / video package and don't regret it one bit. A few last little tips ... definitely take food & beverage with you and don't make other plans for the day unless they're based on loose timelines. You're going to be here for a while, and honestly there's no good way to know how long - it just depends on weather, number of jumpers for the day etc. If you do get one of the video / photo packages it takes about an hour after your jump for them to process it too - but there's plenty of space to hangout outside and watch the other jumpers - OR - they give you a certificate for 2-for-1 drinks at a local bar/restaurant that's only about a mile away. Long story short. Go check these guys out, and if you're anything like me ... you're gonna end up wanting to go back for more! read more

I came here for a tandem skydive around 2pm on a Tuesday. The receptionist was nice, but booking my appointment was a bit of a hassle. I had scheduled a previous appointment, which was cancelled due to weather (unfortunately, I had to call to ask instead of getting a call). I arrived at 2pm and didn't jump until after 3:30pm. We got lucky and managed to get on the last plane, right before they closed due to weather. Be prepared for a wait, especially if you're visiting on the weekend. I jumped with a bald guy (sorry, forgot his name and couldn't find him on the website). I wasn't too nervous about jumping, although I did get a bit uneasy since I had to get another guy to suit me up, and my guy was still strapping his parachute after we had taken off the runway and were in the air. Jump was a ton of fun. It felt like free-fall for the majority of the jump (30-40 sec, although it felt more like 15-20 sec), so I did feel a bit sick. Total jump is about 4 min from plane to landing, and you do some cool twirling in the air before landing. Tips: -wear lots of layers if it's cold (probably 15-20 degrees cooler at 14500 feet) -ask for a jumpsuit -be prepared to wait (go weekdays if possible and call before appointment to check weather) read more

Drove down to watch my husband and best friend jump. Upon arrival there was a ton of paperwork to fill out including a spousal release form I had to sign. We then waited about 30 minutes for them to go through a training class. I was informed the class was not overwhelming and was just the right length for them to feel safe about what was going to happen. They both then were suited up in their harnesses and we had to wait another 30 some minutes for the plane. My husband is tall 6 foot 3 inches and he was slightly concerned he would have to be wearing his jump partner like a backpack. While this was slightly true his jump partner Joe was funny and professional. Both jumps were successful and everyone seemed to have fun! I highly recommend this place if you are looking to jump out of a plane anytime soon. read more

Chris the instructor was GREAT! although the camra guy i had didnt take quality pictures. this was my first time there and i wanted it on video. i paid 120 dollars for the video and the pictures i took with my camra phone before we dove were better than the ones they took, basically there was no landing, i called back and talked to Helen the manager and she told me that they can refund me 20 dollars out of my 120 or i can get a free tshirt. This place changed my life. I did my first tandem skydive here in 2010 and never looked back. Before they could get me out of the harness I was in the office asking about how to get licensed. I did 500 jumps my first year and went on to get instructor ratings and travel all over the world in search of freefall. I had no idea a trip to Skydive Midwest would set a new trajectory for my life, but the people, the management and the vibe at SDMW is truly unique. Is there a chance you will drive from far away just to sit on the ground and look at cloudy skies all day? Yes! This isn't an amusement park, this is aviation! The most critical part of SAFE aviation is weather. Complaining about weather holds on a skydiving review is like writing a review for a tattoo parlor and complaining about the sterilization process, but worse. Outstanding aircraft, friendly and responsible staff and views of Lake Michigan, Chicago and Milwaukee make Skydive Midwest the best place to skydive in the Midwest! The owner is really cool too! SKYDIVING!!!! I had been looking forward to this since I saw it on groupon (and I was patiently waiting for it to show up on groupon!). I would have to say that I was a little upset that I was not able to use my go pro equipment that I bought just for this event. It all cost me 200 dollars and the point of me using it so I could capture this event and not have to pay another 100 bucks for a video and pics. They said I could not use it because of the risk of it falling off and hitting a car since we are right over the freeway I-94. I was mad because I wish I had known that before that we are not allowed to use professional equipment that is harnessed. The wait time for the actual dive was longggggggggggg. It took over an hour to get geared up and do the "training" which is not really a training of any sorts. They just tell you a few things. Most of the teaching seemed to have happened during the time I was supposed to perform it. My instructor was Nick and he was really nice. He was funny and made the experience very fun. I went with my friend Thelma, Jillian, and her brother. The actual experience was amazing!!!! There is a couple different types of landings (on your bottom vs. kicking your legs up and landing on your legs) and Nick went over those while we were in the air. The plane was very crowded and everyone barely fit in there, but I was super anxious to jump so I didn't really mind. Nick went over the jump while we were on the plane and basically he counted to three and we just tipped ourselves off the plane so the next tandem group can jump. The little trouble was that Nick was having a little trouble getting the parachute out (he did not tell me that until after he had it out obviously), but when it finally came out it was a big jerk because we were falling pretty fast since you are 14,000 feet in the air. Overall, the dive was amazing and I had a great informative instructor who knows what he is doing. I went with a group of 10, and all the instructors and staff were super accommodating and helpful throughout the entire process, from explaining paperwork to making sure we were 110% safe and ready to jump out the plane. The instructors went over everything needed to have a safe jump and happily answered any and all questions. Soon to be a returning customer. I just did my first skydive here and had a wonderful time. My tandem diver was Jim and he helped make the experience even greater. He helped explain every step along the way and even through in a few puns. I was starting to feel car sick half way up in the plane, and before I could even say anything, he noticed and immediately started making adjustments that put me at ease. We chose this location because of the view of Lake Michigan and it was indeed a wonderful sight. This was my boyfriend's 3rd jump, all at different locations, and he was happy about how the day went as well. We waited for less than an hour which included a training video and getting harnessed. They have a volleyball net and vending machines to help if you can't entertain yourself. We did not opt in for any videos, but the experience was unforgettable enough as it was. read more

First of all I made the mistake of booking this adventure with Adventure Sports, aka Sky Ride. They are a third party vendor and so when payment is made with them, you have to take your issue up with them. So Adventure Sports/Sky Ride and Skydive Midwest just end up pointing fingers at each other when both should take responsibility for a negative experience. When I spoke to a sales person over the phone I was booked to be there at 1pm on a Saturday and was told that I should be done by 4pm and 5pm the latest. So, we rush through our lunch to ensure that we are at the location at 1pm. We see a large number of people that are waiting around and a group of girls that had already complained that they had been waiting for over an hour and still hadn't jumped yet. I took that as a bad sign, which it was. We waited for about an hour to have our training, which was 15 minutes only. We talked and met with more people who had been waiting since 11am and noon, and it was already 2:30pm. They only have port-o-potty's at this place and so we decided to see if we could make it to the outlet mall at Kenosha to kill time and use the restrooms. Also, I found it to be very unsanitary that the staff members inside Manifest would run into the port-o-potty's barefoot! Gross! We left there knowing that they were on Jump Group 13 and we were in Jump Group 27, with each Jump Group lasting 15-20 minutes with one plane flying we knew we'd be waiting for a few more hours. We were continually told it would be just another hour. Our anticipation and desire to do this only lessened. We had no real choice but to wait since we had called and tried to get a refund with Sky Ride and tried to speak with Skydive Midwest staff members inside Manifest as well to get one as well. Our concerns were also that we were jumping close to sunset and that our videos would be dark, worthless, and pointless. It's also illegal to be jumping after dark. I felt truly bad for this group of family where the wife had set this up for her husband as a birthday gift for them all to do together. They were also planning on being at a party that they were throwing where she was supposed to be preparing food. We finally got on board the plane at 6:45pm. The only saving grace to this place was the instructors that you are tandem jumping with. Since it was already getting late they were totally rushing us and I felt that. I didn't appreciate it as I thought about the monetary and time investment setting my day aside for it. I could see that the fun jumpers who were able to just do it on their own were also jumping before us. I couldn't understand how or why they were fit in before some of us who had paid more as well as them including walk-ins. In any case, I was glad that my instructor, Ray, was looking out for me and was concerned that I might be cold since it was later in the evening and got me a skydiving suit to wear. We boarded the plane with nervousness and fear and the rise of the airplane made the tension grow. I did like the excitement of the drop, and it was fun. My ears were popping quite a bit on the way down and I laughed the entire way. I was amazed that so many people were saying that the wait was worth the jump. I have to say that I disagree. I mean I could get to an amusement park and get the same thrill and excitement over and over in 7 hours for so much less...if you don't know what I mean go to Cedar Point and ride the Millenium Force or the Dragstar! read more

I had already done one tandem jump somewhere else before I came here for another tandem. Compared to the other dropzone, this was a lot cleaner and way more professional (aka not a bunch of barely clothed hippies, but I digress). My instructor was pretty cool. Before we went up, he asked, "Do you want to do any flips leaving the plane?" "UHH YES." The view when you're in the air is awesome with Milwaukee to the north, Chicago to the south and then just miles of Lake Michigan. I was just really impressed with how organized this place was. Also they have a new hangar that's big and nice...and has real bathrooms. While waiting you can hang out on the deck watching people land or play some volleyball. This place is the shit. read more

Well after reading all these reviews, I did my first jump today! It was awesome! I was a little worried because a lot of the reviews said the worst thing was waiting a long time and today was stormy and cloudy. So I called them and they said that bc the weather changes so much around here that we should just come! The forecast has said storms every day this week, but they have jumped every day. You can't jump if you're not here. Still I was a little hesitant bc we live over an hour away and I had my family with me. I didn't want to drive all the way up there and sit for 5 hours then take a rain check and leave. So we stopped at subway got sandwiches and filled a cooler with drinks and got there 10 min before our check in time. The check in went smooth (be sure to bring your coupons and ID! (we didn't but worked around it with help) and the front desk staff was super nice (the best was the woman with the Australian accent). After our quick training we picked our video package (I picked the $120 one- it was super) and got geared up! This was something I have always wanted to do and now that my 62nd birthday was coming up and my daughter was home from college, I figured I had to do it now! My daughter was happy to jump with me and my wife came to take pictures. It was so nice to have family to share it with! Although we had mentally prepared for a 2-4 hour wait, we got called right away! Apparently a large group before us had cancelled and the plane was waiting to take our group of 6 up! We went in a geared up in the hangar and went right up and jumped! My tandem jumper was Brian and my personal videographer was Christen. They were both awesome and super nice. Brian had 1100 jumps and coached me really well. He adjusted my harnesses and mad totally sure I knew what to do. Kristen had 1600 jumps and went up 5-10 times/day. She was very cheerful and the video and picts turned out great! Couldn't be happier! We ended up eating our lunch at the picnic tables inside while we waited for them to edit the video. By the time we had checked in the sky was clear and we got a beautiful view of the lake. The jump was a little scary at first because you fall out of a plane at 14,000 ft going 120 mph. But the free fall only last about 60 sec and then you float down for about 7 min. The free fall is crazy fast and extremely windy. The floating is beautiful and you can see the lake and your tandem partner swings you around and does loops! it crazy how they can hit that drop zone from way up there! Having pictures taken was fun because it really captured the memory forever! They are really well set up here with lots of staff to make videos, pack chutes, pilots, photograph, and check in. I see why it costs so much because it takes a lot of people to run this place. But it was worth it! Overall we were there less than 3 hours and we left with the video and great memories! Long story short, we had an appointment for noon but got lost and ended up getting there 2 hours late. I called in saying we were going to be late and was told, "No problem, be safe and we'll see you here." I thought, "this is so awesome, they're not going to make us reschedule!" We got there and they would not give us a real time estimate. Just "not that long." Not that long turned out to be about FOUR HOURS. We didn't get geared up until about 6:30. I understand that we were late for our appointment, but sheesh! The Manifest staff wasn't extremely helpful, but they were nice enough. Seemed like they didn't really answer any questions directly, I don't know. The actual jumping experience was incredible! It was my first time and , based on this experience, yes I would do it again. I had Rob as my tandem partner and he was very very nice and joked around a bit, but made me feel quite secure/safe. Once you actually get called into the hangar, it moves really fast. You're geared up, prepped and all of a sudden you're taking off in the plane and posing for pictures mid-air! To the other Yelpers who complained about the refund policy...I have no sympathy for you, I'm sorry. It's clearly stated on their website, and then it's clearly printed in the release forms you have to sign. In my opinion, a one year rain check is very nice of them.
