One thing I've found myself doing in every city I go and visit, it to see it from above. The Sky Tower in Auckland is attached to the casino in town. They have day tickets, and you can add $20 to get another admission during the night time. We didn't do this, and instead just went up before sunset, to see the day time, the sunset, and stayed til the city lights came on. Word to the wise, a lot of other people had this same idea. There are two levels of viewing platforms. Sometimes one platform will have less people than the other, and you can go between the two with the elevator. You feel pretty high up there because all of the other buildings in the city are so tiny. So yes, you do feel higher up than you are. Also, at this specific Sky Tower, you can walk around the outside of it. You can probably jump off of it as well. This is for those thrill adrenaline junkies that flock to New Zealand. The Sky Tower gives you a 360 degree view from smack in the middle of the city. The windows are tilted outwards, great for photo ops of someone falling. They also have glass floors here and there. And seriously, there's something scary about standing on a floor where you can look down to the building tops. read more

This review is for the SkyWalk at the Sky Tower: what a blast! I've done the EdgeWalk at the CN Tower in Toronto, so I had to check this out too. In many ways, this felt taller than our experience in Toronto because the buildings in Auckland are shorter, so you're really above most everything! Staff were friendly and we loved our guide, Delilah. Getting suited up was efficient, and after a quick ride to the 53rd floor, we were ready to go! Our group was 5 guests total: most of the groups we saw were no more than 6 people, and in a couple cases, only 1 person, so I like that these are smaller groups. We did several challenges in the walk, and Delilah made sure we all got good pictures. Totally worth the time and money for this Auckland thrill! (Oh, my partner added on the SkyJump. I watched from the landing pad. The staff are very nice to the observers who are too chicken to jump! ) read more

Is it 'touristy'? Yes. Should you go? Yes. The Sky Tower is one of those 'must do' when in Auckland. You will have amazing views of the city and harbor. You may also see people participating in the controlled 'fall' from the tower. On the lower observation deck they have some clear sections in the floor that allow you to look straight down - nice! The higher elevation deck was quieter and the windows were larger. One of the staff members was happy to take a photo for us. read more

Terrifying and thrilling at the same time lol. We were originally just going to do the skywalk, but the group we were walking the catwalk with, were all doing to jump after (as well). After some encouragement and hyping up, we decided to do the jump with everyone, too! It was much safer feeling than normal bungee jumping, since it's attached to your back & not your ankles...& it's a cable that slows you down once you get towards the very bottom of your jump. Still have memories of going to the sky tower when I was younger. This tower is pretty much the needle tower of Seattle, Washington USA or the Stratosphere In Las Vegas. It rises up sky high above the city of Auckland and consists of a restaurant and bar. It rotates in a 360 degree giving you the best views of the City. The glass elevator and floor makes the experience a whole different level. I remember it being really cheap back then but I am sure prices have skyrocketed by now. If I was a budget traveler, I probably wouldn't have made a stop to Sky Tower. Mt. Eden and One Tree Hill also offers superior views of Auckland for the nice price of free. Sky Tower charges a cool 28NZ (you can find a $3 off coupon in the NZ arrival brochures in the airport or bring your student ID which brings the price to 20NZ) for the privilege of shuttling you up to their 360 observation deck for unobstructed views of Auckland. You are completely encased in and the experience is similar to any other major cities that have admission based observation towers. We made it there on a Monday so it wasn't too crowded. The 1st elevator stop takes you to an area that has restrooms and displays identifying points of interest. Then you can take a 2nd elevator up to a higher but smaller area for observation. No restrooms there so be sure to make a potty stop if you want to camp out in the higher area. We got there about 1 hour before sunset to catch some daylight, the sunset and then a bit of whatever gets lit up just before dark. There is a cafe and restaurants. I think if you have reservations to the restaurant, you can do the Sky Tower for free. You also have the option of bungee jumping off Sky Tower or doing a Sky Walk (walking outside around the rim). Sky Tower is lumped together with the Sky City complex so there's a bunch of eateries in the immediate area and a casino. Free speedy wifi at the top! read more

I have a fear of heights...and on a scale of 1 to 10...it's at 11! But for someone with such a fear, there are places in the Skytower where one can sit or stand and not be in fear. Of course, at the scenic elevator, avoid looking down through the glass floor. Also try to avoid the glass floors at the main viewing deck. And most of all, keep away from the glass walls on the two viewing decks of the tower. And it doesn't help if you have family pulling your onto all these places you're trying to avoid! The views were just wonderful! Scenic 360 degree views of the city of Auckland on both the Main Observation deck and the Sky Deck levels. There were people doing the Skyjump that day. Why would someone jump off a perfectly functional tower? The gift shop was well-stocked, and the prices were reasonable. The family enjoyed our visit to the Skytower. Skywalk 360 Experience For glorious views of Auckland and beyond, this is a great experience to do on a good sunny day. It's a 140M walk, 192M up above the streets below, the walk takes about 75 minutes overall including gearing up, the safety checks and prep. Once on the outside not only do you get to see fantastic views, but you are tasked to try a few activities from your friendly guide. Your being filmed and pictures are taken thoughout the walk to purchase later. If your not keen on heights it'll either cure you or make you wonder why you ever decided to do it. It is not cheap, but well worth the cost for the experience. If you provide proof of a previous AJ Hackett experience you get a discount. Also make sure you get your parking ticket verified if parked in Skycity carpark, as can save quite a bit too. You also get a free ticket to check out the observation deck too. The Sky Tower has certainly become the symbol of Auckland City ever since its construction in 1997, and any local who hasn't been up to the top should be ashamed. The views are beautiful, but make sure you try to go on a clear day/night as low cloud cover can ruin the view and you may feel as though you've wasted your $28. For the more adventurous people, the Sky Tower offers the 192 metre Skyjump, or the Skywalk around the outside of the building (both of which are very expensive). Luckily there is the Skycity casino located on the second and third floors of the main building where you can win enough money to pay for that Skyjump. Just make sure to follow the signs or ask around since there's a lot more to do at the Sky Tower than just looking at the views. Once you get up to the observation floor, you can roam around and have a 360 degree view of Auckland and even enjoy a coffee and/or pastry at the cafe with it. Worth the view! You get 360 degree view of the island, ports and the near by places! We had the map of Auckland and we could compare it. It was accurate , we specially looked out for the shape and coastal lines. Walking on the glass floor gives a mixed feeling, sometimes you are excited and at times scared. So you're in Auckland.....sky tower is a must visit. You have to pay to go to the top but there are 2 nice restaurants (one rotates) as well as a 360 bar and 360 degree viewing lounge. I decided to visit the highest tower in auckland after an exam. Staffs in ticketing office and hotel reception were very nice, as well as these in the cafe and wine bar. My wife did the Sky Walk here, we got some discount with one of the pamphlet coupons. With her SkyWalk, I also got free admission to go up to the observation deck, which is actually above where the Skywalk is. So I got to take pictures of her out on the Skywalk from above, and also look out onto the Auckland area - really nice views out to the surrounding hills on the clear day. I could even see down to where they were setting up balloons for the Christmas Parade that day. She loved her experience - got a one on one trip with a guide who was very good. You are in a harness setup attached to ropes, etc. so it all seemed very safe and secured, but with the sensation of hanging out over the city. It was certainly expensive, and the pictures were even more, but worth it as she really enjoyed the experience. A very well run operation. I thought this was a lot better than the Sydney tower. read more

The Sky Tower is the icon in Auckland! It is city's symbol. And going up there is a must for every aucklander. The experience costs 28$, but I have a life hack for you. Book a dinner at the Orbit Revolving restaurant, which is located 1 floor above the observation deck, and you can go to this deck for free at the day of the dinner (not earlier than 45 minutes prior to the booking time). The only disadvantage here is that you would have to spent 30$ per person in the restaurant. Sorry, I am a bit distracted. Back to Sky Tower. Prepare your video camera before you enter the elevator, as going up is also a cool experience. The all-glass floor in the elevator, as well as glassy side wall make this as equal satisfaction as watching from the deck. The view is just the most amazing Auckland experience that could be. It is a joy to look down at Auckland's high-tech skyscrapers, as well as old buildings, which is sometimes hard to notice. read more
