IN ABSOLUTE HORROR AND DISBELIEF! My friends daughter works here and it is absolutely disgusting! She showed me videos of ROACHES IN THEIR FRIDGES AND OTHER FOOD STORAGE AREAS! Paying 300+ for my son's birthday party in a crumbling building full of bugs is just infuriating. On top of all of that I talked to the man in charge who just had a real arrogant attitude. He had a real charm story how it was his parents business before him. But at this point his parents would be ashamed of what this establishment has become. Rude staff and unsafe conditions. Very disappointed. Staff screamed at me over the loud speaker and turned the lights oft to get my attention while I was riding a ramp in the park section which nearly caused me to fall. After I went to the front counter to calmly voice my disappointment I was barked at some more by the extremely rude young man who turned the lights off and screamed over the loud speaker. I had already signed the waiver to skate in the park portion and have skated it many times without incident. I wasn't aware of an extra fee (there is no visible signage) or I would have gladly paid it. But not after being disrespected and after having my safety put in danger. Will not be returning and do NOT recommend. read more

Honestly I don't have a lot to compare SKATELAND to, since it has been at least twenty years since I was at a roller skating rink (s/o Kenny's Roller Ranch in SE Iowa). But from my local friends who grew up here, I understand Skateland is one of the nostalgic gems. For months I wanted to have my 30th birthday party at a roller rink which sent me on a hunt for a local spot here in town. And to my 90s kid surprise Skateland is near my house and was the perfect spot. I reached out to them via Facebook messenger, which they were very responsive. I am a grown women and there was really no need for me to participate in their traditional party package. I explained to them what I was trying to do and luckily they were very willing to work with me. Skateland gave us the discounted group rate with twenty (20) plus attendees which worked out great. (Note: You do have to pay this in a lump sum. I provided them with my guest list, they marked who came, and at the end of our time I had to pay for everyone.) Skateland is everything you remember a roller skating rink to be. With bright colors, arcade games, and your traditional rink games about every thirty minutes (i.e. limbo, chicken dance, "Here comes Andy", and the hokey-pokey). The rink is clean, as are the rental skates. The staff that I encountered was extremely nice and helpful. Honestly we had so much fun that I have even considered going back for their "adults only" night this summer. Overall great experience for my birthday! read more

I came here with a friend for the Adult night, and we had a lot of fun. Good atmosphere, pretty good slushies, overall we had a good time.

Ordered 4 pizzas for my kids' friends to eat, apparently for $15 at this place you can get burnt pizza and a manager who says they "look fine to him". I used to work for Happy Joe's and I know good and well THIS IS NOT FINE and reaks like burnt food. So if you do go for some overpriced skating I wouldn't recommend their pizza. I was absolutely ashamed to have to feed this to my kids SINCE THE MANAGER TODAY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT! I'd have done zero stars but the app won't let me. Definitely won't be coming back here, we will make the drive to another skate rink. read more

Skateland is cute. I've been here a handful of times because my daughter's school hosts a Skate Night through PTA. Every time I've gone, there is a pretty decent turnout and everyone has a really good time. The employees are always really nice and friendly and patient with all the kids, from start to finish. Things are kept fairly clean, all things considered. The bathrooms are not great, but that's sort of to be expected with so many kids going in and out of it. I like that there is tons of seating. I don't sit much when I'm here, but all the extra space is nice for when the kids get tired and want to sprawl out with toxic red-sludge slushees and cotton candy. They also have TWO giant disco balls up together on the ceiling. This makes me really happy for some reason. One can never have too many disco balls. Mirrored lighting is a must if you have to be subjected to top-forty tunes and predictable oldies. Skating in a circle with a bunch of school-aged kids while "apple bottom jeans with the boots with the furrrrrrr" is blaring over the sound system just requires great lighting. read more

The daughter and I absolutely love Skateland. They've got a great staff and a great place for people to skate. My daughter and I try to go every other weekend and we try to bring with us some friends. Are used to skate when I was younger as skate east and I live in Urbandale. I decided to take my daughter several years ago and she has fell in love a skirting which is led me to skating myself again and really realized how much I missed it. It's a great time with the daughter as well as great exercise. The place is always clean. read more

The prices for food and locker rental have gotten unaffordable. They are currently doing a remodel and looks and feels like you want everyone to pay for those repairs. Paying 6.00 for popcorn is like movie theater prices. You were charging .50 for locker rental now it is a 10.00 deposit and you get 7.00 back when you return the key. I won't take my child there to spend 30.00 to skate we will go to sky zone or a movie which is more affordable. In a time when families are looking for affordable entertainment you are trying to price gouge customers. read more

Do you like to skate? When is the last time your tried really? COME ON be brave. Do you have kids that like to skate? I still skate. This is a great place to bring anyone to see if they can get their roll on. They have music and games out on the skate floor. They have regular birthday parties that they can put together and have a good time. I was skating in this rink when I was a kid! I came back in the last few years due to being in roller derby. Since I was in roller derby so we had many a practices here at this rink. They were very accommodating and willing to work with us. Now Skate North has younger roller derby classes. There is a group for very young kids just getting their feet underneath them to come learn how to skate. Then when they get strong enough they are taught roller derby. This is a very hopping place. Always a full parking lot and lots of parent drop their kids off for skate time and fun. It is clean and they always have food at the concession stand. They have games with tickets you can win little prizes. I think the floor is well kept. Its the best when you have your own skates but they have rental skates and roller blades you can use as well. Thumbs up to the family owned and run local skating rink. Keep up the great work. read more

WOW I have not been here in over 10 years and something never change and thats a good thing! My friends had their baby's 1 year b-day party here and I got to go and hang out while baby's roamed around the skating rink in walkers, before Roller Derby practice started! It was blast! I have been to Skate North a few times, my band even played a show here in 2005. The place has not really changed since them... Maybe the half pipe skateboarding ramps are newer I can't remember for sure, but I would brake my legging trying to skate board anyway so why bother! This place is like time warp to the 80's growing up, skating to loud music, eating awesome junk food and just having a blast! There are video games and other prizes to be won, the floor is different than Skate South which is wood, this one you can fall and it does not hurt as much but you probably can't quite skate as fast here. Fast enough for me though.. Im no pro! If you want to feel like a kid again, or jump into that time travel machine hit up Skate North for a blast from the past! I spent so much time here as a kid. Not a ton has changed. Same awesome everything. Only thing the bathroom doors do not have locks on them still like 20 years ago but i just have someone go with me and hold the door. I love this place and hope to see it open for a long time to come! Also, their birthday party package prices are awesome! read more

This place is so nostalgic for me but in another sense it has changed so much. The layout, carpet, concessions, and everything else is pretty much as I remember. When I went last, though, they didn't do any games that I remember doing: limbo, dice game, or the downtown song. Kids are so different these days too...very unruly which calls for more discipline by the staff members which is hard to enforce because kids just are inconsiderate anymore. Some things that really need enforced for safety reasons are no standing around chatting and texting inside the rink (duh), no going the opposite direction as EVERYONE else because "you want to" or it's convenient..go all the way around to the exit or you will more than likely get floored and run over, and lastly standing on the edge by the wall inside the rink leaning over talking to your friends moving your skates back and forth...people will get tripped and hurt! How these things actually need brought up and aren't common sense are beyond me. My how the world has changed....BUT!...on Fridays $10 gets you in the door, skate rental, and all you can eat pizza. As for the music...I don't feel like LMFAO's song "Shots" or Lil Jon's "Get Low" are really appropriate for teens and under. There are other upbeat songs that don't expose sex, drugs, and alcohol to the already enough corrupt things children are exposed to. read more
