What can I say about this group that hasn't already been written. I'll share a thumbnail of events that brings all the elements into plain view and you can decide if getting a tan is worth the aggravation. I signed up about 4 months ago. My membership was @ $55.00/ Month. Because of a medical circumstance the sunless treatments were to provide some peace of mind. From.the beginning I was overcharged on my card on account. Instead of one charge there were several and then credits......we later learned that this is often a technique incorporated with fraud in mind to camouflage unauthorized transactions. I was informed by Visa that they are currently investigating numerous fraud complaints involving unauthorized charges from this business .....at all.locations. So many that Visa may stop accepting paymenta from this business permanently! After several attempts to reach the owners Gary and Rob I recieved a call from Cindy who alleged herself to be in charge of customer service. After arguing about the charges for 40 mins on our first call she asked for copies of my bank statements. 14 pages later and emails I felt I would finally be whole on my whopping $53.55 overcharge.......3 weeks ago Cindy emailed that I was refunded the day before......ANOTHER LIE. After I had to.listen to Cindy berate me about how hard she worked to help me and how great she was at her job......I'm still left unresolved. Rather than give up like many before me. I decided to treat this as a theft. After contacting the Financial Integrity Unit within the Morris County states attorney......we are now processing a criminal complaint of simple theft against the owners of Sizzle Tan. I encourage each of you that have been defrauded by this group to step up and file a complaint. It's unlikely I'll ever see my refund but I'm certain that was never in the cards. Either way it's my sincerest hope that my buyer beware story resonates for all of you and it saves you from the risk of being defrauded also. If I could give this place a lower rating than one star, I would. Google has this location still listed as Sizzle Tan/Blowout Bar. I called the phone number for Morris Plains and asked for a blowout. The receptionist said to come on by within 15 minutes to Morris Plains. When I arrived, the receptionist had me sit in the waiting room while she spoke to a manager. She walked over and said, "I'm like sorry, but we have the blowout bar at the East Hanover location. We are under construction so I booked the appointment but we can't do it here. Don't worry, East Hanover is like, 10 minutes away." I am little concerned that the receptionist is not aware of the services available at her job. Shame on Sizzle Tans for poor customer service, not offering to fix or help out when making an error, and for hiring very confused individuals to represent their company. read more

This is truly for East Hanover more so than Morris Plains, but the only advantage MP has is that its a better looking location- the staff is a tid bit nicer- but they both have the identical equipment so therefore the review can be for both... Zero stars if I could. I've always hated sizzle and every now and then I decide to give it a try again and why ill never know, but the last trip has convinced me to never fall into that trap again. The beds are weak, and the Versa Spa self tanning machine is the reason why people are afraid of spray tanning. They don't supply you with protective feet slippers (I hate that), the room is too dark for spray tanning, there's no sink or towels in the room, the machine sprays splotchy- and that's the color that actually shows up. I've walked out of there looking like a pale splotchy mess too many times. Never again. read more

I never ever write YELP reviews but I felt compelled to write this. Along with the other unpleasant customers, I walked in to get a tan and they said I have a balance of $237. I said what? She said you signed up for a monthly membership. So here is the catch be very careful what you sign at this tanning salon, she said you have to call or cancel it or we keep billing you $69.99 a month. So the funny thing is the last time I tanned was March and it's September and she said in order to tan you have to pay the balance, even after calling her manager. This place is a total SCAM. This company is running a terrible business! When a store goes out of business they do not notify ANYBODY. They charged my card for 7 months while the location was permentally closed during this time. When I called they told me there was a sign on the door, this did not help me because I don't tan frequently in the winter. Regardless I was charged for 7 months and during this time they were charging me more then what I signed up for. Again I was never notified. Coming to Jersey for a month long vacation, I didn't want to lose my Florida tan. After researching different tanning salons in the area, I decided to give Sizzle Tans in West Caldwell a try. I have to say that the staff and equipment are amazing. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner on Thursday. His helpfulness and friendliness made it obvious that he sets a great example for his staff. UNFORTUNATELY, I will be leaving the area tomorrow and will be using the Sizzle Tans in Morris Plains. I am not a complainer, nor do I write reviews however I feel that potential clients should be aware of the BS. I signed up with Sizzle over 2 years ago. I paid $53.00 a month, for level 2. By allowing a auto payment I could get "sizzle bucks". I used my "Sizzle bucks" for a bed upgrade, once a week. Everything sounds great and was great until ...... I showed up to tan, I showed up to a locked door. No one informed me that the location was going to close. Communication failure # 1. Ok, it was a little frustrating but I like to tan so I travel to the closest one to where I live. On 3 separate occasions I showed up to a sign on the door closed for the night. For whatever reason doesn't matter Communication failure # 2 The straw that broke me today..... I find out that they changed the membership and what was included The change was in July, Wait what???? So I came home and canceled my membership. Hours later I get a phone call from the manager. Wow, the very first line communication after 2+ years. I was a little excited to talk with her. I was hoping for a good outcome. I tell her everything that I just explained and I was told "changes to your membership can be made at any given time ", "there were signs hanging all over the salon ", Seriously, no one walks around the salon. You go to your assigned room tan and leave. Not one associate told me about any signs of up coming changes. I did not read any signs why because I wasn't told about them. NONE of them. I was however informed TODAY, I no longer get "sizzle bucks " I would receive " loyalty points" haha that's funny, there is no loyalty no communication no promises. My outcome, my "loyalty " for being a member for over 2 years was accept the changes at the same cost or cancel. So, I canceled! Moral, your loyalty means nothing, your signed contract means nothing and the only time they inform you about anything is when your signing up read more

Last year, I signed up with a Groupon for tanning and was very pleased with the service. This year, I did the same thing because the Groupon which stated, "Not valid for use by customers active within the last 6 months." Since it had been a year since I went, I purchased the Groupon again and went to this Tabor location. The receptionist, Kristen, FLAT OUT refused to accept it saying "that's not what it 'meant.' This is for first-time customers." I read all of the fine print and nowhere did the Groupon state for first time users only. What this franchise means and what their Groupon says are two different things. Their refusal to accept the Groupon was shocking and really poor customer service and they should stand by their written policies. She told me to call Groupon, which I did and they 100% confirm my interpretation of the voucher. Shame on you Sizzle Tans. read more

Don't go to any of the sizzle tans. They charge ridiculous prices for a single tan and encourage you to sign up for the monthly contract. After calling over and over again (all of their phone numbers) with no one answering I was finally able to get hold of someone.You have to go into one of the stores to cancel which I was unable to do because I no longer live in NJ. The contracts have a minimum (very long) length and are open ended. Meaning they will continue to charge you until you go to one of their stores to cancel. Don't waste your time or money. read more

Although the tanning beds are nice here, I later learned during my membership that some of their policies were really just not customer friendly. $10 extra if your credit card doesn't go through for reasons unknown? I also had a lot of trouble ending my membership here. Every time I would ask any staff member about the 'end date' of my package, it seemed to keep moving back a month. I was patient at first and figured I must have confused the length of the membership, but when it happened a couple times, I realized they really just aren't willing to work with you and would rather have you pay for extra months and make you believe you're wrong. How many times can my membership "still have just one month left"? The lies and confusion weren't worth the fees after a while. Luckily, I can tan at my gym for even less than what I was paying here. read more

I mostly visited west Caldwell but I've been to every location. They're all awful, the managers are not helpful whatsoever and on numerous occasions I've almost climbed into a dirty tanning bed with someone else's sweat left behind (you don't see it til the bulbs are turned on). Very poor customer service. I had fraud on my card and had to change all my autopays. I didn't catch this one and so I was charged multiple fees for non-payment when I didn't even know I was missing them. No notice by email or text that I had missed payments and was racking up charges. But if I had been given notice, I probably would have realized that I had not used the service for months and cancelled. So why would they tell me that I my card wasn't working? They made twice the money for nothing this way. I spoke to the manager and she didn't care that I had fraudulent actions my card and that was what caused the problem. I will never go back. read more

I like it at Sizzle. The girls are usually nice, though there are some who are nasty. Beds are nice, clean and roomy. Place is clean and pretty. Only thing is the 2 times I wanted to try the spray tan, they were out of bronzer. They need to keep that in stock. It's dumb not to. Overall it's good. read more

I love this place. Not only do they offer cheap monthly packages in great beds, I really appreciate the great customer service. And I love the Versa spray tan booth that they have!! The girls that work there are all really sweet. I've accidentally left expensive jewelry there in the past and I can always count on them to set it aside and hang on to it for me for days until I can come back and pick it up. Stay away!!! Been a member for years , Suddenly need to mail a request to a PO BOX to request a freeze or cancel your membership,,, now with a 30 day waiting period!!! Although I sent mine in over 30 days ago, my credit card was still charged full amount. Call to complain,,, no way!!! I've been going to Sizzle Tans for a few years now and was very surprised and disappointed in their latest freeze/cancellation process. Seems they want to make it so inconvenient to freeze or cancel so that you don't do it however they have lost my business forever. You have to pick up a form from the store, and then mail it CERTIFIED MAIL to a PO box and it must be received 30 days prior to the next billing cycle. Ridiculous! Why would you do this to your customers? Of course people are going to freeze and cancel during the winter months. Your business is seasonal and you should prepare for that instead of punishing your long time customers with a tedious cancellation process. I will never be back. I've already located another tan salon that I will join next spring that has excellent ratings. Further, you need to be more proactive with replacing tanning bulbs that go out, fixing the fans that break, and repairing holes in the walls that have been there for years but not my problem anymore. read more

I've been a member of Sizzle for about 10 years now...as the years have gone on the service has started slipping. The girls behind the desk are rude and act as if they are doing youbthis big favor by checking you in...news flash, it's your job. I've been in there plenty of times when the girls have been hung over from the night before (and I'm not assuming because I heard the manager say "I don't care how hung over you are...) and to me that's unprofessional...they convinced me to extend my membership and for doing so I would be receiving 3 upgrades a month...well after two months I tried using an upgrade and was told "we don't do rhat anymore...we got rid of that promotion"...last I checked u should honor that promotion for those members who signed up for it...and don't even get me started on how I had to fight for 4 months to get an over charge credited back to my account...looking for a new salon. read more

WATCH OUT FOR THEIR CANCELLATION POLICY. I had to write this place a bad review after my last experience using them. I will say in the past, I never had a problem. I really don't tan very much anymore but decided to sign up this summer just so I could use them for a few weeks before a vacation. They do require that you sign up for 3 months which is reasonable and they did explain that. Again, I knew I wasn't going to use it that much but figured I would just have it for the summer. When I signed up the girl at the front desk made a comment that a benefit of coming to Morris plains is that when I cancel I can just come to that location. I thought it was strange they made you come to that location to cancel but figured it wouldn't affect me anyways. When I went to cancel in the beginning of September I was told that I actually couldn't cancel in person, I had to go there to pick up a sheet that I then had to fill out and mail out to another location. RIDICULOUS. I kept my cool because it's not the girl at the front desks fault and mailed in the slip that day. I had now been charged for September but let that go too. Now I get another charge for October. I call in and I'm told they did receive my cancellation but it came too late to stop Octobers payment and I should have sent it via ups so it got there quicker (which no one said anything when I picked up the slip). I asked for a manager and was told there isn't anyone to speak to regarding this. It's just their policy. So in total I've paid over $250 to tan about 5 times. Come on. Let your customers cancel their membership. You already force 3 months. I imagine they must be getting so many cancellations so they came up with a policy to make it as hard as possible to leave. Nice business model. Hopefully by next year you can make customers drive to Morris plains to pick up the sheet, go to totowa to get it stamped, then mail it in. Might be able to rip off another month from your customers. NEVER using this place again. read more

DO NOT BECOME A MEMBER HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been going here seasonally for years up until now!!! I had to mail in a membership cancellation (which I did on 05/03/2017) I look at my bank account and they are still charging my bank account $53.75. I call to see what is going on and the girl who answers the phone advised she would have to check and call me back! YUP! no call back. I work locally and many of my coworkers have gone here for the summer months! UNTIL NOW!!! You can't trust that they will cancel your account and it seems from reading several other reviews that I am not the only one that this is happening too! I just called back and spoke to the Manager Ally who advised she is unable to help me and that the owner Rob will have to call me back at a unknown time. They drained my account of almost $300 (at one time) for back dated charges. without authorization nor phone call, nor letter to my house, nor email, nor nothing. Great customer service! The girls that work here are super friendly and very helpful when asked questions. They offer level one through level four. I signed up for a three month contract doing level three beds and it was a great experience. They have stand up and lay down beds. The music is always great and loud, although you can adjust it once you are in your bed. They give you a little candy also, which is a nice touch. Reasonably priced and great customer service, i just wished I lived closer!!! read more

After moving here from Philly I was nervous about trying out a new tanning salon, but this place is wonderful. I've got the kind of skin that normally just burns and doesn't tan, but they were able to recommend a great lotion that not only helps the tan stay, but makes my skin feel healthy and prevents that dried-out feeling I experienced at other places. They're always clean and the staff is friendly, plus they have a great assortment of different levels of tanning beds (flat and standing) as well as spray-ons that actually stay and don't stain your clothes (I tried that first for my best friends wedding, and it was perfect. No color on the dress at all). Definitely the best tanning salon experience I've had, that's why I've been going there almost a year and plan to keep going! read more

I have been a frequent customer of Sizzle tans in East Hanover and Morris Plains. I had decided to pay monthly for a package to tan unlimited. Once the summer months started i decided to cancel the package as i would be frequently going to the beach during those month. However i personally went into the Morris Plains location to cancel. I was in fact still charged for a full year on my credit card. As i use the same card for all of my expenses i was not aware of the charges from Sizzle Tans. I HAD SPENT OVER $500 on a yearly package that i didnt even use. I would have expected the Manager that i went to see handle my cancellation correctly. I called the customer service number they listed and Cindy was no assistance to me. She had said that as a company we cant just give you back your money. when i asked to speak to ownership or someone above her Cindy then stated ownership will not contact you - i am the only person you can speak to. that is not a way to handle customer service in any company. I will find a way to speak to the owners as they should be aware of how there customers are being treated! read more

For Morris Plains, it would be nice to be greeted with a "Hello" and a smile as opposed to "Name" and a scowl as though you are interrupting their texting. You are at work, You are getting paid for this job, perhaps you can treat it as such. P.S Perhaps actually cleaning the beds instead of a half hearted wipe and making sure everything is restocked, hairnets/paper towels etc might increase repeat business. read more

The worst experience of my life. I never did a "spray on tan" before and thought I would try it. This place is very poorly staffed with only 1 person at the desk during a lunch hour. She is a bit rude to customers and doesn't even take the time to explain properly how equipment works. It was the first and last time I would get a spray on tan. I left with huge brown blotches on my arms that are still not all faded now 3 days later, although most of the rest of the tan is. I waited 15 minutes in line and most of my lunch hour was up while she scanned the line for others who had a "package". I considered buying a tanning package when first standing in line but after that I would never go back. read more

What a rip off - you don't get tan at all! I bought my daughter one custom spray tan from groupon. What a waste - she shouldn't have bothered driving over there - she didn't get tan at all. I signed up in March for 3 months for my daughter and I. Ended June 30, told them verbally on June 2nd that I would not be renewing for either of us(she is under 18) The girl who I never saw for the 2 full months that I went said "OK, no problem" Did not offer me a receipt.... On June 22nd went again and said to the girl that I had seen dozens of times "You have me and my daughter down for stopping on June 30th? correct? She looked it up and said "YES - you will not be renewing" again nothing was handed to me.... July 2nd checking my statement and what was there? 2 charges for the monthly fee. I called them and was asked "did you get a receipt" NO "oh, well, then I can't reverse the charge but you can have a store credit"...THIS PLACE SUCKS.... I've been a member for almost 1 year, although I haven't gone for at least 6 months, but never cancelled my membership because I tried to go all the time, but just didn't get to. I signed up with direct billing, so I didn't have to worry about paying every month. I got a phone message the other day saying that there's a large balance on my account and to call back the Rockaway store. I thought that was strange because I don't go to that store, I go tot he one in Morris Plains. I called them back and they said that my credit card was declined 3 months in a row....I don't understand how or why because that's the credit card I use all the time for groceries, gas, etc. I told them okay that I would straightened it out but just wanted to know why the charge was so much more than just the monthly charge, and was told that there is a fee every time a charge is declined. So instead of calling me the first time my card was declined, they let it go for 3 months before calling me, so they could rack up for fees. Unbelievable!!! Needless to say, I'm cancelling my membership and never, ever, using Sizzle Tans again!!! read more
