The one-word version? Untrustworthy. I ordered a car online from Sixt (this location) to pick someone up at the airport. I specified that I needed an automatic-transmission vehicle (economy/compact or larger). When I arrived, they said that the only automatic model they had was a Smart (actually tiptronic, but close enough). I was promised that they would call the Frankfurt Airport office right away and make sure they had an automatic-transmission car ready of economy or larger size when I arrived, since the Smart doesn't fit two adults and two large suitcases.
I naively believed them and drove to the airport. When I arrived, turned in the Smart, and asked for my automatic, I was told they had no automatic cars except for a Mercedes, that specifying "automatic transmission" on the reservation form is just a "preference", and that nobody had called them. But if I wanted the Mercedes, they would be glad to rent that out to me at EUR230 (for the under-1hr. drive to Mannheim). When they called the Freiburg office, the staff there claimed they didn't know what I was talking about.
In the end, I ended up having to pay full price for an economy car even though I got a Smart, which costs half as much to rent, and even though we both ended up having to pay for the train ticket to Mannheim anyway.
I tell everyone I know who is renting a car to avoid this company. Do yourself a favor -- go with another company where they aren't a bunch of liars and cheats. read more
