The one-word version? Untrustworthy. I ordered a car online from Sixt (this location) to pick…read moresomeone up at the airport. I specified that I needed an automatic-transmission vehicle (economy/compact or larger). When I arrived, they said that the only automatic model they had was a Smart (actually tiptronic, but close enough). I was promised that they would call the Frankfurt Airport office right away and make sure they had an automatic-transmission car ready of economy or larger size when I arrived, since the Smart doesn't fit two adults and two large suitcases. I naively believed them and drove to the airport. When I arrived, turned in the Smart, and asked for my automatic, I was told they had no automatic cars except for a Mercedes, that specifying "automatic transmission" on the reservation form is just a "preference", and that nobody had called them. But if I wanted the Mercedes, they would be glad to rent that out to me at EUR230 (for the under-1hr. drive to Mannheim). When they called the Freiburg office, the staff there claimed they didn't know what I was talking about. In the end, I ended up having to pay full price for an economy car even though I got a Smart, which costs half as much to rent, and even though we both ended up having to pay for the train ticket to Mannheim anyway. I tell everyone I know who is renting a car to avoid this company. Do yourself a favor -- go with another company where they aren't a bunch of liars and cheats.

Here is my experience and my opinion of that experience trying to rent a car from this Sixt…read morelocation. One word summary: suxt. I made a car reservation with this Freiburg location for a 5 series BMW automatic transmission class of car to pick up at this location and return in Paris. I made the reservation over two months prior to my trip. I was called by a Sixt trainee during the train ride to pick up the car and told they could not provide such a car after all or even one in the same class. So why did they even offer to rent it? Presumably, this could have been known 60 days ahead of time. They did offer a discount for a lower class car that I could return to Paris or an Audi A6 that I would need to return in Freiburg. I might have gone along with one of the options or tried to work something out but there was no way to call them back or to speak with anyone other than a trainee who would relay the manager's offers when they called. Wouldn't leave a phone number to call them back. Could not reach them online. They were neither able to keep their promised reservation nor able to offer a reasonable alternative nor could I discuss it with anyone in authority to make a decision. Overall, this was an exceptionally poor experience. I would not recommend this location or this company based on my experience.

My rental experience at this location was mixed but overall did not meet my expectations. I…read morereserved an Audi A6 automatic (premium class car) at this enterprise location in Freiburg. I was instead given a Nissan Qashqai SUV that reeked of smoke and I was told it is in the same premium class (and that all their cars are non smoking). For reference, a new A6 costs in excess of 35k euro while a Qashqai is about 18k euro (prices are from autoprice.eu for lowest class car of the respective type with an automatic). While all rental companies play games with the rental car class, I find the enterprise definition of "comparable class" to be unreasonable. I'm sure if I were to take an A6 and return the Qashqai they would (suddenly) agree. I was told that the Nissan was the only automatic on the lot but an Infinity might be available the next day. I wouldn't get an A6 as they never rent them at that location. Needing a car, I took the Qashqai and hoped for a change out the following day. No such luck. The manager did call to follow up as promised, which I appreciated, but the car was not available. On the third day, they found me an Audi Q3 diesel. The Q3 automatic diesel cost about 28k euro new and they explained that it is an "upgrade" form the standard SUV. That might indeed be but it isn't I the A6 class in my opinion. Moreover, the car had not been serviced -- it wasn't washed and he tank wasn't full. Again, I needed the car and was glad to be rid of the smoky Nissan. So I took it. The manager was apologetic about the smoke in the Nissan but explained that they just didn't notice it. Fair enough. Mistakes happen and he owned up to it and did try to get us a different car. But if you are like my family and have serious allergies, it was a bad situation while we had it. I ended up needing to extend my rental for a day and the manager was happy to accommodate the request. On the one hand that was nice of him. On the other, why would t he? I was paying for premium car and instead getting a car that was not nearly in the same class in most people's opinions (including that of the manufacturer, who prices it very differently). Also, the manager was willing to reduce the out of country fee (of 5 euro per day which wasn't apparent to me when I rented the) by three days. That was a nice gesture but didn't really seem to be comparable to the class reduction. Overall, they delivered a rental car of a lower class for which they charged the premium rate. I would not recommend renting a premium car at this location. If you rent any car here, be very sure to check it for smoking.
