Our host Charles, was warm, welcoming and helpful. He made an amazing breakfast, and created a joyful, inviting atmosphere in the breakfast area. It was the perfect finish to a fun filled weekend. Eating away from home is challenging and often unappetizing for me due to several food allergies (of which I notified the owners when booking). Booked a room on Expedia.com for 2 Queen Beds, Charles was there to show us the room. It was a Double and a Twin room up 6 flights of stairs with no elevator. Charles stated the Bed and Breakfast does not have a room with 2 queen beds. They refuse to refund my money and lie to Expedia when they call them so Expedia refuses to refund me. I had to book a room 2 miles away that cost another 200+$. DO NOT BOOK HERE! Rooms not as advertised or shown on website. Run Down Bed and Breakfast not locally/ family owned! read more

Before Six Acres, I had never stayed at a bed and breakfast. When booking, little did I know I would be in such a cool bed & breakfast. Two sisters run this place and it just feels so much like home - they even had some actual family passing through while we stayed there. Six Acres was a stop on the underground railroad! I didn't realize we were staying at a place with so much history and found it to be a really cool experience. I was worried about the B&B being haunted but am happy to report no strange happenings occured while we were staying there! Harhar. Six Acres is a bit off the beaten path of anything in Cincinnati. We had to drive 10-15 to get to any of our destinations in any direction. I think part of being away from the action means getting a good deal on the price, as well! Our room was nice and clean enough for our picky butts. Some rooms share a bathroom and we were not feeling that so got a room with our own facilities. The bathroom wasn't perfect but it got the job done! It was an interesting experience for us staying at a B&B and having to creep in after our night out as to not wake the other guests. In the morning, we had breakfast together with all the others staying overnight and the family that ran Six Acres. It was a pleasant time and tasty start to our morning! Gotta admit for someone slightly socially awkward like myself though, it was a slight strain making conversation with strangers. If that's your thing though, you'll love meeting people from various parts of the country! Loved the whole experience of staying at an old mansion in Cincy that holds so much historic significance! Staying here, you won't get up to date furnishings or technology but you will have a fine time and meet some lovely people! read more

Our visit to Cincinnati was made so much more enjoyable, thanks to the hospitality provided by Six Acres. From the moment we arrived until check-out, we were treated to a unique lodging experience; one far more superior to comparably-priced hotels/motels. The main house boasts nine sumptuous rooms, most equipped with private baths. We chose to stay in "Annie's Suite", which is actually the entire first floor of a separate house adjacent to the main house. The property sits along well-traveled Hamilton Ave., but the sound of traffic was muffled by the type of solid construction found in homes built during the 1800's, providing us with peace and quiet in the midst of the city. Guests are greeted upon arrival by the proprietor, Chelli, who offers each guest a warm smile and friendly handshake as she welcomes them into the house. She offers a wealth of information about the home's history as an Undergraduate Railroad stop, and about its original owner, abolitionist Zebulon Strong. Breakfast is served in the formal dining room, and Chelli joins us for lively conversation and offers us some sightseeing tips for our day ahead. Our accommodations were spacious, featuring a master bedroom with king-size bed, a second bedroom with a full bed, a living room, dining room, fully-equipped kitchen and full bath...a level of comfort and privacy far superior to any downtown hotel. A winning combination of fantastic amenities, a kind, knowledgeable host and a history-packed residence. Six Acres is a wonderful place to stay for anybody visiting the Queen City. read more

The Good: - Supporting a black-owned (and woman-owned!) business. - The location in Northside. - The house and property itsself. - The history of the house. The Not so Good: - Colder months (I stayed in April) mean there is semi-opaque taped plastic sheeting over the windows, so there is no view to the outside (the view from the Sallie Mae room is one of the main reasons I booked it in the first place). As a bonus, the wind blowing the plastic makes a kind of gentle rustling that'll put you right to sleep! - Overall the house seems to have been restored on the cheap. Examples: a vent in the room was just totally open/uncovered & needing repair, a pillow case was being used as a table cloth on the end table next to the bed, one of the small tables in the room was totally broken, there was an open closet full of junk, there are toppled over chairs and trash on the covered part of the back yard. - Breakfast was ok, but it didn't feel like the sort of breakfast you'd get at a bed and breakfast that costs this much. I really WANT to like this place, and overall enjoyed my stay. But I wouldn't stay there again. The quality is just not there compared to other B&B's. read more

A lovely respite in Cincinnati. It's on the south end of College Hill... which means you're far enough removed from any potential shadiness. We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a family wedding at the nearby Laurel Court mansion. The owner, Kristin, is not only a delightful person but an amazing innkeeper, chef and community-member. Our family descended on the B&B filling most of the main building (5 rooms) and the 7th Acre (a separate house with 5 more rooms, living rooms and kitchens). Rooms and facilities in the main building were impeccable. The 7th Acre could use a few touch-ups on the fixtures, but it was still very comfortable, quaint and it felt like home! From the great breakfasts to the Rehearsal Dinner luau, service was consistent, excellent and always friendly. To top it off, there's a lot of history in this neck of the woods. The house was a welcome stop on the Underground Railroad back in the 1800s. I would highly recommend Six Acres B&B any day. read more

Location was my reason for choosing Six Aces (near my friends' place). So I did not expect to have such a pleasant stay. My room was large and comfortable, warm with excellent natural light (daytime reading without lamps). The house is decorated in an age-appropriate eclectic mix of turn-of-19th century furnishing. Firm bed; plenty of hot water; good water pressure. As a mid-week guest I monopolized innkeeper Kristin's breakfast conversation time. We traded tales of rehab and stories of wild animals in the city - I tell her Cincinnati bear sighting stories every chance I get. (BTW, it was an fine breakfast.) Six Acres has a great location; on a ridge overlooking Hamilton Ave and the LaBoiteaux Forest Preserve. It's a great jumping off point for viewing fall colors. The Forest Preserve is a great place to start (colors are especially dense at the base of the ravine. I'd book myself in again without a second thought; I recommend you stay there. read more

First a warning: it's not air conditioned. But, despite being there during a record hot day in the upper nineties, our room was reasonably comfortable with just a ceiling fan. Twelve foot ceilings certainly help. Both our bedroom and our bathroom were huge, nicely decorated, and very comfortable. The mattress was firm and there were plenty of pillows. The TV was very old school, but we don't vacation to watch TV. The location is perfect, in the midst of a forested park but still only a $20 taxi ride to the middle of town. There's a bus stop right across the road - $1.75 fare and a half hour later we were at the riverfront. We left our car there. No need to fuss with parking! The house itself is more than old school: it's ancient, and brimming with an exciting history that our keepers were happy to share with us in colorful detail. But never overbearing, like the best of innkeepers, they knew when to keep us company and when to leave us alone. That's why we stay in B&B's, to get that wonderful personal touch - and the breakfast was no disappointment either! Bacon and eggs cooked perfectly, a bowl of tropical fruit, and the coffee cake is to die for! Nothing packaged or premixed. We would definitely stay there again, and definitely recommend it to one and all. You won't find better at this price point. read more

We were very pleased with our three-night stay at Six Acres. Though it's a bit of a drive to downtown, access was easy to the interstate. The neighborhood and surrounding acreage made it feel like we were no where near the city, though we were. The setting is serene and very historical. A lovely respite. The staff is great! Everyone made us feel like family from the first moment we were welcomed. Sallie Mae's room had a comfortable king bed and was huge and bright. The bathroom was almost as large as the room. The room was very clean and had ample places to put stuff if needed. It has a lovely bay window overlooking the beautiful and serene back acres of the property. They were very accommodating to our need for an early breakfast which was always ample and quite good. The only problem we encountered was that the wi-fi was frustratingly slow to non-existent at times. Otherwise, even though some historical renovation is going on, our stay was a good one. I hope to return there again some day! P.S. To address what was said about there being no AC...evidently it has been installed now for we were quite comfortable! read more

We stayed at Six Acres for one night only about a week ago. Overall it was quite a lovely experience. PROS - The house is utterly idyllic, from the lovely exterior to the well-manicured interior. The place is historical and beautiful. - Very comfortable and clean. - Breakfast was quite tasty! - Staff were very available for questions. CONS - Toilet in our room didn't work properly; this was addressed immediately (we were offered another room or use of one of the shared bathrooms; we took them up on the latter). - Driveway to the house is a sharp incline on a curve; we were told our 16ft box truck (we're in the process of moving) wouldn't be a problem. We were able to negotiate it both coming in and going out, but it was a little hairy. So in review, the issues we had were extremely minor as compared with how lovely the home, the service, and the meal was. I'd definitely recommend it. read more

I just returned from a ladies' birthday celebration trip over Labor Day weekend. Accommodations were so comfortable, food was delicious. The property's history was shared with us and was very interesting. I will most definitely return to Six Acres!! I can confirm that the other three ladies traveling with me share this sentiment! To start off with, I neither found mouse turds nor paper thin sheets in my experience in the main house (not the Seventh Acre house). My wife and I were planning on staying with relatives, but one of them was hospitalized the night before we arrived so we needed a new place. Six Acres was the cheapest B&B available with one night's notice, at least where you could book online. Like every place, it had its pros and cons. Pros include its historicity. This house was a stop on the Underground Railroad, and they are redoing it to preserve how it used to look historically. It's also pretty and set off from the road so it's not visible from the road (there's a sign as you are driving up Hamilton Avenue). The parking, while not consistently paved, is right next to the house and large.The Sallie Mae room, which has a king-sized bed, is very large, and the private bathroom is as large as our Chicago apartment's master-bedroom. Kristen is accessible by phone and text into the evening and she makes sure to ask about dietary needs when she first talks with you. I ordered chocolate covered strawberries as a surprise just by talking with her and she made sure they were delivered shortly after we got to our room. Breakfast was tasty and filling. When we were there it included glasses of watermelon pieces, omelet casserole (vegetarian for us), sausages, and freshly-baked banana walnut bread slices. Kristen is very friendly and enjoyable to talk with. Cons - The neighborhood is sketchy. When we drove up, my wife and I got more and more nervous about this location. Fortunately we decided to stay, and you can't see the house from the road, which helps. There are no dinner options within walking distance. You have to drive back down Hamilton Road and cross the bridge to continue on Ludlow Street to find a bunch of good restaurants. Kristen will leave you a list of places if you ask, but there are no maps so you will need to rely on Google Maps. This is a problem because the Internet is spotty (though it is free). Additionally, the rooms only have lace curtains, so privacy isn't amazing in the daytime from the back yard, though if it's dark and the lights are out you should be OK. You might still be woken up early by the sunlight, though. The Sallie Mae toilet doesn't flush well - you have to hold down the handle to get it to work. Also in the Sallie Mae room, there's a couch which appears to be for mere decoration because the cushion is not designed for sitting. The driveway only holds one car at a time and goes around a curve, so you'd better hope nobody is coming the other way when you are on it - also, it's a bit scary to descend. Also, breakfast is called for 9:30, but if you have earlier plans then they can make it for you earlier. In general, Six Acres is a good place to go if you want to have a (clean) adventure. read more

This lovely old B&B made us feel as though we were kids again visiting Grandma. The rooms are cozy, mismatched and loved. The owners and staff are friendly and informative, and they allow pets. We stayed in the separated suite and enjoyed the silence and the freedom of having a lay-in with coffee, listening to the rain. read more

We had a stay-cation here in Cincinnati and ended up here because all other B&Bs in the area were booked. Luckily, we had a lovely experience. We stayed in the Seventh Acre house next to the main house. It is old so you have to be okay with a little wear and tear. We went out in Northside to get wine and brought back a pizza from NYPD Pizza down the street. The next morning we had a full home-cooked breakfast made by the owner herself, Kristin. She came out and talked with us afterwords and we missed out check-out time because we had such great conversation. I would recommend Six Acre B&B to anyone staying in Cincinnati from out of town or someone who wants a little vacation away from home. read more

This is a perfect place to stay if you want a mix of city and a beautiful of the hills. As soon as I walked in the door of the main house, i knew I'd picked a great spot to stay. The innkeeper was very friendly and professional. They even upgraded me to a room with a private bath without my asking. How considerate. It's really easy to get to the Northside and Clifton neighborhoods from the B and B. read more

Shelly, the hostess, makes you feel at home immediately. It is a home from 1850-1860 in College Hill with interesting underground railroad history. Not everything has been refurbished, so it's a little rough around the edges, but you will enjoy the art and atmosphere. The breakfast was generous, the bed comfortable. There is some road noise, but it's a great option if you prefer some atmosphere instead of the typical no-personality hotels in the city. Plenty of free parking. read more

We were not pleased with our stay at Six Acres. When we drove up, the outside of the house is deteriorating. There was a sign that a historical preservation renovation was in progress, although there was no evidence of this. That should have been our first clue. At 3pm, when we arrived for check in, the house was locked. We waited 10 minutes and called at 3:10 and the manager met us to let us in. We had reserved Barbara's room online but he said it may be noisy as other people were staying in the other house (7th Acre) and we may prefer to stay in the main house. We decided to look at the two rooms he offered (Dixon and Sallie Mae). We decided on Sallie Mae because it seemed larger than the other. We brought our things in to our room and then decided to rest before going to dinner. We hadn't noticed the absence of the smoke detector in the room, duct tape around the bathroom window, partially filled shampoo/conditioner bottles, and overall un-cleanliness of the room. I didn't feel the sheets were totally clean-and walking barefoot in the room, my feet picked up a lot of debris. We had already unpacked and settled in so we didn't feel like we should leave, but sleep there for the night and see if our minds had changed by morning. There were no blinds over the windows, just lace curtains. Although the nearest housing was a good bit away, it was a high rise, and if someone really wanted to, they could look in and see. The manager gave us a brief history of the house, which was interesting. His family was in the downstairs parlor when we came downstairs and then later, when we went to dinner, were sitting on the front porch. They live on the third floor but it seemed that they were very comfortable taking over the residence. Breakfast was satisfactory: cantaloupe, scrambled eggs, kielbasa, and a grocery store coffee cake. We decided after breakfast that we would forfit our money, rather than stay another night where we felt it was unclean and not the value of room for what we had paid. We talked to the manager who said we may check out at any time but he wasn't sure whether we would receive a refund, so we were directed to Kristin. She said that as part of our contract we signed when we booked the room there was a 14 day cancellation policy and we had missed that window. She offered that if it was booked that night, by someone else, we could have the refund, otherwise not. I understand that we signed the contract, and were liable for the payment but we felt that they should be accommodating since the room was not what was advertised on their website. read more
