This was one of my favorites from my trip. Kayaking was so much fun and we were able to get some really great scenic views and it was cool seeing and holding starfish. Hearing the barnacles, and watching an eagle up close. The weather was really good and our tour guide was amazing. She knew everything very well and she has a great personality. We got to do so much and that's saying a lot because we were in the kayaks. It was really fun and I would recommend.

Such a good experience. Kayak guide Sara was awesome. I had the great luck of being her partner in the Kayak. She very knowledgable about the waters, the fauna and flora of the islands. Even for another kayak that was less experienced our group, she was patient, compasionate and a very good teacher. I definately recommend her as a guide and the company as a great kayaking organization.

Emily and the entire Sitka Sound Ocean Adventures was top notch! What an outstanding way to explore Sitka and see nature from a different point of view. One of our favorite parts was the warm cookie at the halfway point. Thanks for a memorable trip.

Sitka is the perfect place for sea kayaking and Sitka Sound Ocean Adventures is the perfect company to guide you. We did the Islands Paddle & Lost Fort Trek tour, it was an awesome experience and a great way to learn about the history of Sitka. Mitch was an awesome guide, very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. They start off by giving you some safety tips, we had never gone sea kayaking before and the foot operated rudder makes it easier to turn than a regular kayak. We first paddled around some nearby islands where we got to see a bald eagle and its nest. After getting used to the kayak we headed to an island that housed one of the abandoned WW2 forts. Once we got to the island we saw various tide pool creatures and docked for our mini hike. We were told there were plans to make the fort into a park next year so we were lucky to be able to see the fort prior to any renovations. After exploring the fort for a while we walked the island a little where we sampled some salmon berries and nettles. On the trip back to port we tried some sea kelp and saw some sea lions swimming nearby. Definitely an unforgettable experience and a highly recommended excursion. The homemade cookies were an awesome treat too!

This was such a fun time! Well worth it and great guides!! We did the old fort tour kayak tour and it was a blast. I'd highly recommend this!

Our kayaking trip in Sitka with Garret was probably the highlight of our Alaskan cruise. The group was very small--just 5. Thus Garret was able to pace the trip to fit the group. The weather was spectacular and the water was like glass. We saw a few sea-lions and an eagle's nest. We also saw an eagle swoop down and catch something--a fish? Halfway through the trip we had a chocolate, molasses ginger cookie the size of a frisbee. Yum! The outfit is a small mom and pop organization-- long time natives of Alaska. They gave us all the gear we needed to keep us dry. It was extremely reasonable, compared to the trips offered by the cruise line. My husband, David and I, strongly recommend it!

Great way to view the volcanic coast line up close and personal. Informative and educational so much fun you don't know you're learning.

Kayak review Summary/ TLDR…read moreI would definitely recommend SWCK. Gear was outstanding, response time was fantastic, safety was exceptional and the day trip was very fun. Longer summary Mike was very responsive when I tried to book the kayak trip. We would be in Sitka for the day during our week-long Alaska cruise with Holland America (great cruise line, but that is another review). SWCK is a bit of a walk from where the bus drops you off at the visitors center, but that wasn't a big deal. Walking across the bridge to to SWCK gave us a great view of Sitka. Mike was ready with all the gear and kayaks. We let him know that we had to be back in time to get on the boat and he definitely gave us enough time to get back. We were 2 adults, an 11yo, a 9yo, and an 8yo. The adults have kayaked a couple times before and the kids were new to it. Mike is experienced with younger kayakers as well as older kayakers (he has *a lot* of experience). After a good safety and technique talk, we set off for a beach for lunch and then saw a whale in the distance, given our strength and ability to kayak he changed course so we could get a closer look at the whale and she was beautiful. We also saw sea lions, sea otters, and bald eagles. Since Mike is so experienced with kayaking and taking photos, he took photos and videos of us the whole time and airdropped it to me at the end, which was awesome. The weather was wonderful. Needless to say, Mike is very personable and loves what he does. Thank you for letting us share the day with you, Mike. Definitely a highlight of our trip.

Our tour guide Brett took us to the Fortess of the Bear, the Raptor Center and the Park. Amazing centers that support the wildlife is such a great spot to visit. We had plenty of time to watch the bears communicate with one another and the staff at the centers. I also love that there are items in the gift shop that support the sanctuary so purchase those and know your purchase supports the wildlife. The Raptor center has amazing eagles, owls and other birds that are in need of medical help. Absolutely amazing to see them up close. The park has so much history on the natives, totem poles, and beautiful artifacts to see up close. If you're in Sitka I highly recommend you take this tour.

From our Cruise ship, we boarded a local bus (no charge/complimentary) to take us to the Chamber of Commerce meeting destination for the Wildlife tour. Very easy to follow instructions ;) We boarded the cargo mini van and Brett, our tour guide for the excursion began our Sitka adventure! The tour included visits to the Alaska Raptor Center, Fortress of the Bear Sanctuary, and the Sitka National Historical Park, featuring the iconic totem poles. Each stop offered a unique glimpse into the natural beauty and cultural richness of this incredible region. The Bear Sanctuary, is the highlight of the tour. The sanctuary is dedicated to the rehabilitation and care of orphaned and injured bears. Seeing these magnificent creatures up close was awe-inspiring. Our final stop was the Sitka National Historical Park, renowned for its impressive collection of totem poles. Walking through the park felt like stepping back in time. The totem poles, each with its own story, stood as silent sentinels of the Tlingit people's rich heritage. The park's trails offered stunning views of the surrounding forest and coastline, making it a perfect blend of culture and nature. Overall, this wildlife tour in Sitka was a remarkable adventure. The combination of breathtaking wildlife encounters and cultural exploration made it a well-rounded experience. Whether you're a nature lover, a history buff, or simply seeking an enriching getaway, this tour is a must-do when visiting Sitka, Alaska. Highly recommended! The only negative, there should be an age restriction: Fellow Travelers brought their Toddler Girl, who cried the entire time, in and outside of the Van!. Super unpleasant and very hard to hear Brett speak about the sites!

We boarded the boat which was new, clean and beautifully designed, plus it had SUPER comfortable seats.  Before we even left the local bay, we saw multiple whales and seals. We went to several areas to see more amazing whales, salmon jumping out of the water, otters and a waterfall! We were able to sit inside or go on the front or back decks for photos or to hang out a bit and observe the natural beauty around us. As a fellow nature lover, It was fun that Captain Gary was excited to see the whales as well even after having grown up in Sitka and seeing them many times before.  He was a wealth of knowledge about the wildlife and area, plus relaxed and easy going.  I appreciate the details about the whales names and that he recently found out how some were related. This was our favorite tour of our entire cruise, hands down.  We'll recommend Captain Gary's Sitka Adventures to everyone traveling to the area!
