Visted the 'Sitar' St Helens tonight on the reccommendation of my daughter.
Waited more than 15minutes to take order.
Waited another 30 minutes to receive popadoms & pickles.
At this point 2 men arrived and pestered the manager about advertising. They were showing him literature and taking photo's of him and the building. He should have told them to go and concentrate on his customers. The single wiater & chef could not cope with the influx of 2 hen parties. A couple who arrived after us left after 30 minutes having not even been offered a drink!
Continued to wait another 60 minutes to get starter...pleasant food with fresh salad. Waited another hour to get mains. These were vile.
I had the Sitar 'Special' Tastless chicken in an overpowering, bright red sauce. Everyone else had various meats in the same bright red sauce. We asked for different types of rice - they were all the same. The best & freshest item was the Naan bread.
Best point is that the Sitar is 'Bring your own alcohol'.
Left most of it and told the waiter the food was most disappointing.
Best advice ....don't go if you expect to get authentic Indian food....best cook it yourself at home.
Look for a copy of 'The Indian Housewife's cookbook' and learn to taste real Indian food. read more
